As far as I'm concerned, Kemba and Kyrie are 1A and 1B in skills, with Kemba seeming to have fewer teammates/org issues by a lot.

Total package is an upgrade on the incumbent and flips the script on this offseason. Make it happen DA.

Oh I agree completely, but seems like the horse has left the barn on that.

Someone who can initiate, create gravity and pass will solve some of the offensive woes and enable the kids. Doesn't solve all of the woes by a longshot and doesn't address defense.

Stopping the bleeding would be nice though.

Dallas has a lot of space. Roughly $57M in salaries, and Porzingis cap hold is only $17M. If the renounce the rest of their pending FA's, they'll have about $31M or so.

I'm partial to Russell partly due to age, and partly (okay, mostly) due to the potential for the narrative that he was who DA wanted all along, and the Kyrie affair was just a long con to serve him up to the Nets and force them to renounce Russell. The prospect of the Nets finally getting their head above water just to implode with Kyrie at the cost of Russell who goes on to succeed with the Js is just too enticing.

Woj: Houston hopes they can convince Philly to do a sign and trade for Jimmy Butler. Houston wants to expand the trade to include Eric Gordon or Capela in it.
They offered four first round picks for Butler last before Philly swooped in. If you're Philly how many picks do you need attached to Capela or Gordon before you consider doing that deal? I actually think a floor-spacer like Gordon could work really well on that team but I'm not doing that as a 1 for 1.

deep inside Guido territory
Woj/Lowe FA special on ESPN2
--Lowe hears that Butler won't opt in like Paul did to facilitate a Houston trade.

-Woj says KD has changed his narrative on him being soft by playing through the injury. Post injury the story changes on him possibly staying in GS. KD's camp has talked with the Warriors post-injury. He does not think any decision has been made either way on his status.

--Lowe: Klay has been waiting for a max offer from GS and it has not come yet. Woj says the one team that Klay would be open to taking a meeting with is the Clippers.

--On Kyrie and Brooklyn: All the noise has been Brooklyn for Kyrie. Woj says Kyrie has gravitated toward Brooklyn because of the infrastructure they have, i.e. young players around him versus what is there with the Knicks(LOL). It's to the point where the Knicks have had to go to contigency plans to woo KD. BK is in great position to get a commitment from Kyrie and then get KD. Lowe questions what BK does if KD says no to come with Kyrie due to what happened in Boston. Woj says this is not a solo act with Kyrie. Need to pair him with a 2nd star. They only want to max Kyrie and KD. Could look at 2nd tier but not to max out. Lowe says they are divided internally on who to add if no KD.

--Philly: Single most fascinating team due to Butler/Harris/Redick FAs. Question is if they want to pay all of them and if the players want to accept smaller roles still. If they bring back everybody, it will financially strap them. What affect would this have on Simmons' contract soon?

--Kahwi: Seems like a 2 team race between Clippers and Raptors. He had no intention of ever staying in Toronto, but the org has sold him on keeping him healthy and winning. Lowe says he is meeting with LA and wants to bring someone with him if he goes.

--Middleton/Lopez/Brogdon: Woj thinks the Bucks bring back Middleton and Lopez. Brogdon gets interesting. Lowe says if one doesn't get signed, it's Brogdon. He thinks they should sign all 3 and pay the tax.

--Kemba: Woj thinks they should have traded him if they weren't going to guarantee the 5th year.

--Horford: It's intriguing who is going to give him the $100 million deal. They are not walking away from Boston without a significant deal in hand. Was a limit on where Ainge would go. Love him, but smart play by Boston as it gives them flexibility.

--Boogie Cousins: GS could bring him back at a 7% raise. Teams are going to strike out on their 1st and 2nd option. Not a Day 1 or 2 option.

--Lakers: A legit scenario that D-Lo signs with them. If they don't get him, they will surround LBJ with shooters. Terrence Ross and Collison are options if they break up the money,

I like all of those guys depending on their respective prices.
I like all three of Brogdon, Satoransky and Bryant too.

I think Milwaukee probably matches anything on Brogdon, I wouldn't go too high on Bryant so he could get matched as well.

Satoransky is the guy I'd target here. To me he's like a 15% off, lower usage version of healthy Gordon Hayward.

Does a lot of things really well, big enough to play 1-3 so he can fit in lots of lineups, good passer, passable defender, a secondary ball handler, can spot up as a three point shooter, knows he's a role player not looking to steal shots from better players, looks like a lost Gasol brother.

I like his game a lot, and Washington might be reluctant to match a decent offer since they don't look to be a contender anytime soon and might be pouring more money into Bradley Beal soon, locking up their guard spots.

I agree on Satoransky. I think he’s a rotational player if not a starter. I might even try the Wiz on a Rozier for Satoransky deal just to avoid the overpay.

Curious how he thinks they are going to free up the cap space. I guess they could work out a sign-and-trade, but do they have anything left to trade to Toronto?

ha Bryant, yea sign him...another youngster the Lakers just gave away for nothing after having an outstanding G-League season for the Lakers in 2017-18. The guy doesn't miss all that often.

yep, Satoransky would be a nice addition.
Theis started shooting 3s well last season, maybe he comes back on the cheap.
WCS, Maxi Kleber are not bad options.

Obviously if you have the chance to build around the 4th and 5th best players for a 32 win team, you pretty much have to do it...
They'd be the guys I'm building around?

Did you forget just earlier today you said this?

Bryant was 21 last year. I don't love him or anything, but he showed enough last year that he's interesting. The two things which stand out with him are the low foul rate for a young big, and the excellent free throw percentage.

I just thought it was funny to target two former Wizards, but it's obviously not actually disqualifying. Apologies - it was more of a laugh line.

As you note, I'm a Bryant fan. I'm less of a Satoransky believer, but wouldn't mind him if cheap.

Tyus Jones, who I've seen mentioned in these threads, was extended a qualifying offer, which makes him a RFA.

Sign Kemba, move Jaylen for Miles Turner or Wendell Carter Jr, wait for free agency to mostly play out and sign a leftover bargain vet big (Theis again? Robin Lopez? Maxi Kleber if Dallas gets Horford?) then roll with it.

Not that I’d expect that team to make a particularly deep playoff run, but you’re relying an awful lot of rookies to give you minutes. Essentially that team is:

G Kemba
G Smart
F Tatum
F Hayward
C Turner (love WCJ, but the Bulls aren’t giving him up for Jaylen)

Bench: vet big, Time Lord, Yabu, rooks

I’m not sure that top 8 is deep enough to give you an entertaining first round exit.

Also the salary cap exists and the 10M needed to match Brown and Turner has to come from somewhere.

If the Celtics sign Kemba and want to trade for a big, it's almost certain to be someone on their rookie deal.

Depends what you are looking for, but I see Turner as a far more interesting fit than Sabonis. I like both, but Sabonis is a points and boards guy who isn't that great a defender. I don't see him as a great fit with a team adding Kemba, and accordingly being loaded with scorers and no rim protection. Turner I assume was suggested because he's a terrific rim protector, and his offense is more of the 3pt shooting variety

I just like Turner so much more than Sabonis, given the proven range and (especially) defensive upside. I would definitely get behind Brown for Turner, and that makes some sense for Indy. This is regardless of Kemba, but I get that they want to use the cap space this summer.

Why would we trade Brown for a big? Wings that can play both ways and shoot from outside are more valuable than big men in today's NBA. It is much easier to get by with a below-average 5 than below-average wings.

If we sign Kemba, looking to bring in a cheaper vet (Noah, Ed Davis, Robin Lopez, Javale McGee, etc.) would be the best way to go to soak up some minutes while Time Lord gains some more experience. If the team looks like its going to compete and we need an Embiid stopper, we can shop around at the deadline and try and find someone, similar to how Toronto got Gasol.

Big Philly/Houston trade rumors with Zach and Woj:

Adrian WojnarowskVerified account @[wojespn 20m20 minutes ago
Reporting w/ @ZachLowe_NBA, : Houston’s offering Clint Capela, Eric Gordon and PJ Tucker individually to teams w/ space to absorb salary. Rockets trying for best available first-rounder for any of those three, hoping to redirect pick to Philly in pursuit of Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade.

Philadelphia has been privately expressing confidence around NBA that it can re-sign Butler and Tobias Harris, but Houston remains on case of selling Butler/76ers with a sign-and-trade scenario once free agency starts on Sunday.

Except a team starting Kemba, Smart, Hayward, Tatum, and Sabonis would get absolutely lit up on the defensive end...
Sure. And trading for Turner means we likely lose Smart too though. And in addition to losing Smart, we now have less money to sign a PG.

I don't get the phrasing. You can only "sell" Philly on that if Butler makes it clear he's not staying. That tweet makes it sound like they are trying to sell Philly on not signing Butler even if he would stay and taking whatever random 1st round pick someone gives Houston for one of those players.

I guess it's more selling Butler on it.

Why? What is the case for Capela on the Celtics? What does he do well? And note I like him but he isn't a fit with the current roster or even with any of the other moves they are discussing.
Well he's 25 and they have a boatload of unspent $. I guess they can just not spend to the cap this year if that's what you would prefer.

I would prefer that the C's not tie up their money in a guy who has no clear fit on the Celtics roster or, really, Stevens system. Contrary to what has been posted in this forum, he is roughly an average defender and is NOT a rim protector. He also cannot shoot outside the paint.

Given the Celtics prospects, I would much prefer to see them give some run to the younger guys even if its painful to watch. The only way players and bigs in particular develop in the league is via play.

Tying up ~$18mm/year of cap space for four years in a good PnR, rim-runner who cannot do much else well seems like a bad investment to me.

Or they could use that cap on better players. It's not like the options are Capela or nothing. I mean if you're using cap on a center why would you pick Capela over Vucevic, who will yes, be somewhat more expensive, but is also a far superior player

Vucevic at playing 29 doesn't really fit the timeline for the Celtics, though

The only real deal between Indiana and Boston that makes any sense is Hayward for Turner, outside that the fit just doesn't exist. You really can't start Sabonis, Walker, and Hayward, because the resulting lineup could never score enough points to be a net positive. There are just too many guys you'd need to hide defensively. And only one Marcus Smart to go around (honestly with those three starting you'd need to bring Tatum off the bench so that Brown can keep Marcus from killing someone). In Indiana they have the personnel necessary to limit his defensive responsibilities which makes him an asset. Boston, alas, does not.

Without being too flippant, one has little or no choice about coming here, the other can pick from a myriad of teams.

Either way, it seems the leader in the clubhouse for big acquisition is Kemba, which means Vuc won't be an option.
