Brady, Mahomes, Allen, Hurts, Lamar, none of those guys went top 5.I'm sad. Someone please talk me out of being sad.

Care to share why?I contend that the overall depth of QBs in this year's class will prove to be better than in Lawrence 's year.
Also. We may want to tank and root for losses. But no coach is going to tell his team to purposely tank. As it no only affects the team but the players who may be FA (ie a player will lose money). The average NFL career is already way shorter than any other sport so wanting players to tank can result in them losing millions of dollars in their next and perhaps (final) contract.Brady, Mahomes, Allen, Hurts, Lamar, none of those guys went top 5.
What the fuck does this have to do with the price of tea in China? No one is suggesting that the Pats' coaches should instruct the team to tank.Also. We may want to tank and root for losses. This team isn't horrible (top down) like CAR where the actual roster is so bad that its not them actually tanking.
too early to worry about the tiebreaker, Patriots I believe could be in 3rd by end of tomorrow.I guess, but not if if you're at 4 and the guy you want goes #3.
Sure, but the Commanders are very unlikely to win again. The Pats have a good chance to beat the Jets. The trend isn't good.too early to worry about the tiebreaker, Patriots I believe could be in 3rd by end of tomorrow.
Pats should just win out at this point. Move down as far as they can so that they can pick at a spot where good QBs usually get picked.Sure, but the Commanders are very unlikely to win again. The Pats have a good chance to beat the Jets. The trend isn't good.
I'm starting to learn that from reading this thread. The focus should be on the 6th round because they've had success there before.Pats should just win out at this point. Move down as far as they can so that they can pick at a spot where good QBs usually get picked.
My point is some fans are reacting like BB and the Pats committed some capital offence by winning. What the fuck does this have to do with the price of tea in China? No one is suggesting that the Pats' coaches should instruct the team to tank.
FOXBOROUGH — Do not suggest the idea of tanking to anyone in the Patriots locker room.
There are New Englanders who started celebrating every Patriots’ loss, anticipating a better draft selection with each defeat. However, the roster doesn’t share that enthusiasm for losing.
In fact, there are some Patriots players who are downright rankled at the idea tanking might be the best course of action.
“That’s BS,” said linebacker Mack Wilson Sr.
“We aren’t here just to give games up,” defensive tackle Christian Barmore said when asked if there was a message to those who might suggest that a win is exactly what they don’t need right now. “We’re here to play football.”
We’re competitors,” explained defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. “Winners win, you know what I’m saying? And people who don’t understand that are the ones who are thinking about tanking.”
The tanking talk started around the middle of October following an ugly road loss to the Raiders that dropped the Patriots to 1-5. For some, the realization that New England could be on track for one of its best draft picks in recent history sparked a curious transformation where some began rooting against the team
But the locker room feels as connected as ever, according to special teams captain Matthew Slater.
“For us, as competitors, we want to go out and perform well, regardless of the circumstances,” said Slater. “We want to have success. [Thursday’s win over the Steelers] gives us some confidence and hopefully, a little bit of a spark. Because we’re going to need every spark we can get playing against the Chiefs.”
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2023/12/13/sports/dont-bring-your-tanking-aspirations-into-patriots-locker-room/Wilson alluded to the fact that making a conscious decision to tank — especially in a locker room with young, occasionally impressionable players — can be the sort of thing that unknowingly infects a franchise.
“As a human in general, you never want to tellyourself to lose. You never want to be at that point,” Wilson said. “The person who says ‘tank’ wouldn’t tell their kid, ‘Hey, go lose that game.’ You know what I’m saying?
“There’s a lot of pride that goes into playing competitive sports. We try to win every game. We’ve just been getting the short end of the stick, not being able to finish a few games.
“We play to win. No one in this locker room is playing to lose.”
So in the end, while we’ve seen “Suck for Luck” and “Tank for Tua,” do not expect the Patriots’ roster to willingly engage in a “Winless for Williams” or “Play for Maye” campaign over the last month of the season.
“I think our fans see what other teams have done. Not to point fingers or anything, but right or wrong, it’s just not how we conduct business here,” Wise said.
Right, players don't tank.My point is some fans are reacting like BB and the Pats committed some capital offence by winning.
when thats not how they (BB) operates.

No matter what people say or seem to imply, absolutely no one expects the Pats to intentionally tank.My point is some fans are reacting like BB and the Pats committed some capital offence by winning.

DT Davon Godchaux: "It's all about pride, man. Being willing to compete. We could have easily laid an egg and said 'F--- it, let's get ready for Christmas, the season is over.' But we have teams in front of us, and it's good to knock a team like this out of playoff contention."
I really don’t think Kraft’s decision on Bill hinges on whether or not they play hard and end up 3-14 or play hard and end up 6-11. There was a world where the Pats end up with a top 2 pick but don’t lose out in embarrassing fashion.Tanking in the nfl is for losers.this isn’t the nba. The pats will still end up with a top 5ish pick and JD will most likely be there.
Some here who root hard for Bill to continue on as HC also root for the pats to lose. Losing out is quite possibly the worst outcome if you believe Bill is better than Maye. I get that there are many here who believe Maye is better than Bill. But for those who want Bill to stay winning a game in prime time on Christmas Eve isn’t the worst thing.
I don't see the difference.Tanking in the nfl is for losers.this isn’t the nba.
Agreed. They play Mac and we get Williams or Maye. Bummer.I still can’t believe they blew this.
But they beat NE head to head so they should be ahead of the Pats in the overall NFL standings. Unless I don’t understand how this works. (Totally possible)#4.
Washington SOS is worse than ours.
And Howell has been awful lately so Wash will likely be looking for a QB.#4.

You don’t understand how it works. Head to head not relevant. But they beat NE head to head so they should be ahead of the Pats in the overall NFL standings. Unless I don’t understand how this works. (Totally possible)
I’m curious as to why. It matters when moving UP in the standings (that is, it’s the first tiebreaker for playoffs) but not when moving DOWN? Shouldn’t it be: here’s how the standings work, whether we are looking at places 7-8 or places 30-31?You don’t understand how it works. Head to head not relevant.
Head to head only matters if the teams tie for SoS, which is unlikely and not the case here. Not sure why this is the rule.I’m curious as to why. Ok got it. That’s weird though why the standings order would be determined differently at the bottom of the standings than it is at the top.Head to head only matters if the teams tie for SoS, which is unlikely and not the case here. Not sure why this is the rule.
KC-LV and PHI-NYG games today have no bearing on relative SOS. Assuming SF wins tonight, WAS and NE will be tied for SOS (133-122) and, because WAS beat NE, NE will have the #3 pick based on H2H results (3rd tiebreaker). If BAL wins, WAS retains the #3 spot based on worse SOS.Week 16 - end Sun games

It’s going to be Zappe. I can’t see them bringing anyone else in. I’m not sold on the second-tier QBs that everyone else seems to be. Maybe they can solidify the O-line and go from there. The QB next season is going to be Zappe vs Fields, isn't it
Unless you think Mac is back, they are absolutely bringing someone else in to seriously compete for the starting job. It’s going to be Zappe. I can’t see them bringing anyone else in. What is your thought on the mechanic required to bring Fields to NE. Bill as coach? Bill as GM? Someone else as GM? Someone else as coach? Is CHI moving up in the draft and offering Fields as part of the package and, if so, what would else would NE be getting? The QB next season is going to be Zappe vs Fields, isn't it
My guess is that the playoffs are a reward for your play that specific season and if you beat the team you’re tied with you get that reward. But for the draft it’s about the strength of your team as a whole so they look larger picture.Ok got it. That’s weird though why the standings order would be determined differently at the bottom of the standings than it is at the top.
Jayden Daniels is not a second tier QB. By the time the draft rolls around you’ll see him mocked by some folks ahead of MayeIt’s going to be Zappe. I can’t see them bringing anyone else in. I am perfectly happy with Daniels. A win against the Jets could be disastrous though. If they believe in any of the 3 I’m all for mortgaging some future picks to get one.Jayden Daniels is not a second tier QB. By the time the draft rolls around you’ll see him mocked by some folks ahead of Maye
Thanks for sharing.Reading whiny, petulant rants by people mad that BB and the Patriots won a football game is something that enhanced my experience of being a Pats fan over the last two decades, so a big thanks to everyone doing it here.
Hey, the Phins actually beat a team with a winning record yesterday. Let him have his fun.Wow, we are just gonna let a soden drive by - which is usually reserved for game threads - go unremarked in a normal thread? I need that shit like I need to guzzle a bucket of bleach.
I’m too numb to care.Wow, we are just gonna let a soden drive by - which is usually reserved for game threads - go unremarked in a normal thread? I need that shit like I need to guzzle a bucket of bleach.
Yeah this might be like the Cs taking Tatum at #3. Daniels could be the guy that they want anyway. I'll save my consternation for when they drop to 5.Jayden Daniels is not a second tier QB. By the time the draft rolls around you’ll see him mocked by some folks ahead of Maye
Let's hope that this is the last year that we ever care about this!Ok got it. That’s weird though why the standings order would be determined differently at the bottom of the standings than it is at the top.
It's funny that people say this when the NFL is the only major sport without a draft lottery AND the one with the quickest turnaround for rosters. If you tank in another sport you might not get the pick you're hoping anyway and playing losing basketball can be infectious. In football you'd actually get the pick you "deserve" plus nearly your entire roster will turn over 3 years from now when you might be good again so anything the players learned good or bad will be off the team. There's really no penalty.Tanking in the nfl is for losers.this isn’t the nba. The pats will still end up with a top 5ish pick and JD will most likely be there.
