Bears also did this a few minutes ago...

I was just thinking I wonder why the Bears have been so quiet with the most cap space & if they were planning on taking on other people's salary dumps. They still could I guess.
The dollars are fine. Trading away Roquan Smith to sign two off ball linebackers to market rate deals feels like idiotic GM’ing, but that’s just my opinion.4-72 with 50 guaranteed for Edmunds seems very palatable to me. He's still 24 years old.

Didn’t he “not want to be there” because they refused to negotiate an extension with him and traded him away instead?Roquan 5/$100m/$60m
or
Edmunds 4/$72/$50m + 2nd (53) & 5th (148) round picks this year
They wouldn't get a comp pick for Roquan with all that cap room, & he did not like being there (which is lol Bears in a different way), so it mostly makes sense, I think.
I think it was mostly a difference in opinion in value, upon further review...Didn’t he “not want to be there” because they refused to negotiate an extension with him and traded him away instead?
Thought I remembered Roquan saying specifically he did want to be there.
https://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/bears/why-bears-took-roquan-smith-out-rebuild-plans-trade-ravens"Because of what we just mentioned in terms of not being able to find common ground to continue to move forward," Poles said when asked how things changed with Smith. "There is — the reality of it is that you have to ask yourself a question — are we ever going to find that middle ground from our previous conversations you gather that information and it felt like it was highly unlikely.
"So then, are you able to then take the opportunity to enhance your roster now? Or are you OK with the chance that he walks away and we can’t use some of that to enhance our roster? And that’s what it came down to and I felt like we had to move forward at that time."
He was a guy I thought would fit here, bu can't see Bill ever having been interested if this was the price:
The Bengals almost always lock up the guys they really want to second contracts. They extended Hubbard (Bates' classmate) when he was first eligible. Once Bates made the switch to David Mulugheta, he wasn't taking a penny less than market rate.He was a guy I thought would fit here, bu can't see Bill ever having been interested if this was the price:

Bates is a bit of a conundrum. He just turned 26 and has some very high-level play out there (2020 and he was the best defensive player outside of Donald in the '21 playoffs) but he's been largely inconsistent the last two years. His upside is certainly worth it, but most organizations aren't going pay that kind of money for a safety where you don't know what you're getting.Edmunds and Bates were my pie in the sky Gilmore-type moves for the Pats this FA, so this sucks.
PFF was all in on Bates...#1 on their free agency top 100.Bates is a bit of a conundrum. His best is definitely elite. I just wonder how often it'll be there (not an effort thing to be clear, just has been inconsistent the last two years).PFF was all in on Bates...#1 on their free agency top 100.

Except 4 years 52 million in Florida is worth much more than in Massachusetts.Would have done this in a heartbeat.

Don't they have basically zero cap room and no QB?Would have done this in a heartbeat.

They could of course all be just responding to the Trey Wingo stuff.
Dean was #2 on that PFF list. Seems awfully low.
They’ve gotta be backloading the hell out of the cap hits.Don't they have basically zero cap room and no QB?
I know. I was just using it as the best context for what Breece was talking about. They also did a Twitch Stream with the 3 of them where I assume they talked about Rodgers, but not going to listen to it for research. Sauce also has other partial tweets from today. That first tweet is from a week ago
Everyone does anyway. Plus they are trading/releasing Shaq Mason & probably Fournette & others. They’ve gotta be backloading the hell out of the cap hits.
It's hard to keep up with them!Which one? They have like 17 Joneses? Is Jonathan the FA?
Edit: Jonathan it is

I don't think you can reasonably draw this conclusion without knowing what they offered the free agents who went elsewhere. And even then there could be other factors in play, like weather, family, coaching staff, etc.I honestly think the millionaire tax is killing them
I'm surprised they can add $6 million right now. The "up to" must mean there are NLTBE incentives, because $6 million is almost all of the money they freed up by restructuring Bakhtiari. They are going to need room to get a Rodgers trade done. I guess with that much money coming off the books in 2024 and 2025 if they can trade him, they have options to do other restructures if they need to.Another random signings I don't think I've seen in here...

no because they are using 17 games and he'll have to pay tax on most road games.Kay’s show said Ramsey, simply playing in FL instead of Cali, is netting $2M salary(after tax). Is that math correct?
Thanks, that’s what I didn’t know if they were accounting for properly. Call it a million, still a lot especially when the location (Miami) is still good. High tax states and a real disadvantage.no because they are using 17 games and he'll have to pay tax on most road games.
High tax states aren’t necessarily a cultural draw either. Given the choice of living in a Tribeca loft or a big house outside tampa bay with a powerboat etc suspect a lot of nfl players would take the suburban or coastal lifeThanks, that’s what I didn’t know if they were accounting for properly. OTOH, wait til he starts looking for property in Miami. Thanks, that’s what I didn’t know if they were accounting for properly. Call it a million, still a lot especially when the location (Miami) is still good. High tax states and a real disadvantage.
Yeah, that's the one that kinda got me, too...View: https://twitter.com/garrettwilson_v/status/1635435043697852417?s=46
