4-72 with 50 guaranteed for Edmunds seems very palatable to me. He's still 24 years old.
The dollars are fine. Trading away Roquan Smith to sign two off ball linebackers to market rate deals feels like idiotic GM’ing, but that’s just my opinion.

Roquan 5/$100m/$60m

or

Edmunds 4/$72/$50m + 2nd (53) & 5th (148) round picks this year

They wouldn't get a comp pick for Roquan with all that cap room, & he did not like being there (which is lol Bears in a different way), so it mostly makes sense, I think.

Didn’t he “not want to be there” because they refused to negotiate an extension with him and traded him away instead?

Thought I remembered Roquan saying specifically he did want to be there.

I think it was mostly a difference in opinion in value, upon further review...

"Because of what we just mentioned in terms of not being able to find common ground to continue to move forward," Poles said when asked how things changed with Smith. "There is — the reality of it is that you have to ask yourself a question — are we ever going to find that middle ground from our previous conversations you gather that information and it felt like it was highly unlikely.

"So then, are you able to then take the opportunity to enhance your roster now? Or are you OK with the chance that he walks away and we can’t use some of that to enhance our roster? And that’s what it came down to and I felt like we had to move forward at that time."

Edmunds and Bates were my pie in the sky Gilmore-type moves for the Pats this FA, so this sucks.
Bates is a bit of a conundrum. He just turned 26 and has some very high-level play out there (2020 and he was the best defensive player outside of Donald in the '21 playoffs) but he's been largely inconsistent the last two years. His upside is certainly worth it, but most organizations aren't going pay that kind of money for a safety where you don't know what you're getting.

PFF was all in on Bates...#1 on their free agency top 100.

That first tweet is from a week ago
I know. I was just using it as the best context for what Breece was talking about. They also did a Twitch Stream with the 3 of them where I assume they talked about Rodgers, but not going to listen to it for research. Sauce also has other partial tweets from today.

That Shaq Mason didn't really work out for the Bucs.

The Pats got a 5th for Mason (170), which they trade for 183 and 245. They drafted Kevin Harris with 183, and Andrew Stueber with 245. Harris may have some potential, Stueber was placed on NFI in August.

I honestly think the millionaire tax is killing them
I don't think you can reasonably draw this conclusion without knowing what they offered the free agents who went elsewhere. And even then there could be other factors in play, like weather, family, coaching staff, etc.

I'm surprised they can add $6 million right now. The "up to" must mean there are NLTBE incentives, because $6 million is almost all of the money they freed up by restructuring Bakhtiari. They are going to need room to get a Rodgers trade done. I guess with that much money coming off the books in 2024 and 2025 if they can trade him, they have options to do other restructures if they need to.

Kay’s show said Ramsey, simply playing in FL instead of Cali, is netting $2M salary(after tax). Is that math correct?

no because they are using 17 games and he'll have to pay tax on most road games.
Thanks, that’s what I didn’t know if they were accounting for properly. Call it a million, still a lot especially when the location (Miami) is still good. High tax states and a real disadvantage.

High tax states aren’t necessarily a cultural draw either. Given the choice of living in a Tribeca loft or a big house outside tampa bay with a powerboat etc suspect a lot of nfl players would take the suburban or coastal life
