I watched but was away from a computer all weekend.

Fuck that noise is all I have to say.

I love how deep the squad is that when Cabaye inevitably jets off to Paris we have to call up an academy forward to sit on the bench.

Tyne-Wear derby this weekend at least.

Thanks for the memories.  Anyone want a Cabaye jersey?

No word on the transfer fee.  Sky Sports indicates all that is left is a medical.

I will hold off on flipping out until we learn the fee.

Sucks for you guys as fans but if you can get the reported £20M price for a 28-year-old central midfielder who you just bought a couple years ago for £4M then that's a pretty nice piece of business.

It's a nice piece of business, but it reeks of a club that is content to finish mid-table and it reeks of an owner who is content to turn a profit.

EDIT:  I guess I should continue to withhold judgment until the window is officially closed, to see if they bring in a player or two to try and replace him.  But I am not optimistic and anticipate reading about how they were "close" but couldn't "get over the line."

I'm sorry to hear this for you guys. I really enjoyed watching Cabaye play and he always seemed to score great goals. It's a huge loss for the Prem, not just Newcastle. I hope you'll be able to replace him some how.

Yeah, that sounds about right.  Didn't mean to minimize the "this sucks" factor here for fans.  He's a total class player and really fun to watch in the few Newcastle games that I've caught the last couple years.

Luuk de Jong in for a medical today.  End of season loan move.

Midfield's a tad thin though....

Cabaye has killed Liverpool with a couple of brilliant strikes in recent years.  Sorry for you guys and the EPL's entertainment level that he has to go, elated for Liverpool that he's leaving.

If losing Cabaye gets us Luuk de Jong and Cabella from Montpellier, I'll be ok. From what I read Cabella has a lot of potential

That's where I am at.  Another name I have heard is Clement Grenier from Lyon.

Twittersphere is abuzz with Charlie Adam talk as well, FWIW.

Charlie Adam?  No.  Just no.

With Gouffran out tonight and Cabaye gone, I wonder if they slot Ben Arfa in behind Remy or out wide for Gouffran.

Where the hell is Marveaux?

Joe doesn't think he has to have 8 players trained in France for EURO Cup roster requirements, does he?

I'd rather see Ben Arfa out wide and Sissoko in the middle, since he a better distributor and defender. Maybe Remy on the other side and Shola or Cisse up top?

I'm following along on gamecast. first half: 16 shots, 2 on goal. What the hell are they doing?

Tripping over themselves.  HBA had a very good chance from about 10 feet with the goalie on the other side of the net, and HBA drilled it into the turf and it sailed over the bar.

My current game of PFM agrees.

Losing cabaye just sucks endlessly, because we now have only destroyers and attackers in MF. There's no creator or connector. Although I will say that if they buy a random Frenchman as cover, they have the benefit of my doubt. If it's a fat Briton, less so.

Luuk passed his medical and will be unveiled today.

Lyon has confirmed a bid from Newcastle for Grenier.  Hopefully this ends up working out.

Heard it is an £8.5 Million bid, and IIRC Lyon wants £10.  Not too far apart. Should get done.

Kinnear at the start of the transfer window:  "No player will be leaving the club in January."

Cabaye at his PSG introduction press conference:  "There was an agreement in place for me to leave in January."

Inmates, asylum, and all that.
