James Richardson: Joe Kinnear is gone now, no news yet on which club he'll be joining
Paul Doyle: he did one deal, and he got that wrong

Toon are the biggest joke in the league. Win enough in the first half that you can survive relegation when you don't even try to field a quality squad in the second half.

Vince would keep Moussa Sissoko but everyone else is too small to play for him.

It isn't all bad.  Coloccini is back in the lineup.  And he has such glorious hair.  If he played in the NFL he'd have a "Head and Shoulders" ad campaign for reals.

121 mentioned it a page back, but it's worth reiterating: You Newcastle fans are consistently the most entertaining posters in the Gazza forum.

I'm sure you'd rather not have the inspiration, but great posting nonetheless.

EDIT: And I love that the URL for that .gif is "fat-geordie1.gif."  Because you know there is a fat-geordie2.gif, and so on.

I hopped in the shower with a few minutes left- I mean, it had been 7 hours since they last scored.  Figured, hey- at least a point!

Thank God.  First goal since January 18th.

"Newcastle Utd.announce profit after tax of £9.9m for year to June 2013, up from £1.4m in 2011/12." -BBC
Maybe the fans aren't giving Mike Ashley enough credit for his astute financial management.
I can think of 5-6 MLB clubs where he'd fit right in.

I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that the club's current position (I don't think anyone else doubts this either)- safe in 8th place- is exactly what Ashley wants.  Look at what happened last year with European football for Newcastle and what Swansea is going through this year.  Ashley wants his investments back, that's all.  Best way to do that is get as much league money as possible without having to shell out extra on squad depth/wages and travel.

EDIT: What Ashley is doing makes perfect sense from a business perspective.  I think it's a disservice however to one of the biggest clubs in England and Europe.

Mike Ashley has been and will continue to be a shrewd businessman.  Compared to the Hall/Shepard regime before him, he's a goddamn saint from a dollars and cents perspective.  He just wants his money back and knows that this is the best way to do it- finish anywhere from 12-7th, buy low, sell high, etc.  NUFC won't turn in to Portsmouth or Rangers or whatever, but they'll never 'go' anywhere either.

EDIT:  And it behooves Ashley to be astute w/r/t financials as there's no way he could ever flog the team off for a profit otherwise.  He got burned when he bought the club by not fully investigating what kind of financial shambles the club was in- and he knows whoever comes after him won't make the same mistake.

Oh absolutely.

Although Leeds have actually won a thing or two of note in the last 60 years, no?  :p

Based on extensive testing in PFM, Newcastle can come in 9th every year while also winning the League Cup two years out of every three. That's very irritating given that they don't seem to try in both cups every year.

I can't think if a club and a trophy that deserve each other more; they could just rename it the Xisco League Cup and everyone would assume that it was some sort of Geordie misspelling of Cisco.

Lads made a trip south today to take on Hull City.

Apparently the sports information department knows something about the managing director position at NUFC that we don't.  From today's match program:
