It’s my partner’s birthday today. We’re going to Fenway.

Personally, I think it would be a good thing if the Boston Red Sox had more runs than the opposing team by the end of the ninth inning, thereby winning the game.

I’m tired of the boneheaded plays. I don’t like the put-downs. Gimme a real goofball win; I’m talking 13 runs in six innings. I’d settle for a couple of fancy defensive plays, too.

Just stop fucking around. We’re probably not seeing the promised land this season. That’s fine!

I mean, it’s not. It’s not really “fine.” It kind of pisses me off. But what I’m getting at here is, like… Baseball shouldn’t be this shitty to watch. It’s really getting on my nerves.

Can this team make baseball slightly less shitty to watch? Can we win one game—starting tonight—and then just see where tomorrow takes us?

Anyways. I’ll be at the game. Our seats are some of the best I’ve ever had. I’d like this one to be a ‘W.’

And now, a time-honored tradition: Picard flipping the bird.

My view on the season at the start was that it was going to most likely be a painful growth season (obligatorily saying that "if health and luck break well.... " etc... etc...) and it honestly has been pretty much exactly that. Painful. It hurts to grow but I still think the team is positioned in the correct way for.... a good run this season to still make the playoffs (and *puke* with healthy Paxton, Sale, Bello as the starters... Houck and Whitlock in the rotation.... Story back in the MI) and potentially go deep and SHOCK THE WORLD!!! But they've got to not look so shitty when they lose.
Next three weeks are important... definitely need to get into the WC mix over that time

Tuesday night’s game was a fun one to watch
for Marlin’s fans, but a kick in the crotch
for the Boston faithful, another splotch
on a season we continue to botch.
It’s the midway point, and checking my Swatch,
it’s time for the Sox to step up a notch,
or we’ll spend our summer drowning in scotch.

Summoning the mental energy to be inspired (since inspiration comes from ourselves) to keep doing that after a bunch of shitty and dispiriting losses is really impressive.

Starters:

Sale (out)
Paxton (should be okay? to make next start)
Kluber (likely done for the season)
Pivetta (probably won't start again)
Houck (out... maybe another 6 weeks)
Crawford
Whitlock
Bello
Bullpen/Ort

Should Winchowski be making these starts instead of Ort? Is it better to have Ort start then go to Pivetta, Winchowski? I'd rather start Pivetta and hope he can go 4. With Ort... you know you're getting 2 maximum.

Winckowski isn’t stretched out. He’s also a key part of the pen. I think they can only consider starting him once Schreiber is back. Although even then, who knows. His stuff seems to play up a lot better in the pen.

Short, sweet and as good as anything you've written this season. Thanks for making the time during these busy days.

I'm calling a reverse lock today. Ort will pitch two scoreless.

Oh hell, why not?

Sox lose 25-8. Marlins' manager apologizes. Sox go on run. Marlins' reliever goes home and tries to kill someone with a machete.

Pick your poison. Ort starts the game clean and the Sox have 7 innings to try to reverse the damage or he comes in and possibly gas cans a close game from the seventh inning on.

Sox lose 11-0. Braxton Garrett pitches a perfect game. Devers swallows that horrible black gum/chew thing that's always in his mouth and is rushed off for emergency surgery.

Weather Report Not at Fenway: We had some big storms out here this afternoon, with lightning and thunder and 8/10" of rain. So, if it's anything like that, the fellas will not be playing through it.
Or they will, and which player is struck by lightning? Pick your Person.

Jesus H Christ. It’s as if no one realizes the team is essentially acquiring vintage Sale, Houck, Yu Chang, McGuire and Story at the trade deadline. Bards and minstrels will sing ballads to the 2023 Red Sox second half.

My only regret, thus, is tonight’s game is technically part of the first half of the season.

Kaleb Ort is starting.
Whelp, looks like I'll be able to check out of this one early again tonight. Best start thinking now of what movie to watch after this one goes into the shitter. I'm feeling like a Linklater.

Sam Kennedy was on the pre game show attempting to do damage control. Fenway Sports Group is focused on the Red Sox, feeding the poor, and planting trees in the rainforest.
