This DFAing was happening no matter what else happened today or previously, unless the guy threw a no hitter. He was up for the one start and is totally fungible and would be resigned by the team in ten days if he was still available and didn’t have other issues.
So a big FU to an entire community for a predictably weak start in an early June game in a lost season for a last place team? Interesting calculus.

That puts BOS at 14 position players and 12 pitchers, and 1 of the pitchers is Kluber who can't throw for at least 3 more days. I'm guessing 2 more pitchers are added and Kluber and a position player are removed from the 26 man.
Or Chris Sale is hurt and they needed someone to eat a start rather than burning a valuable bullpen arm or creating more roster chaos. And even this would not have happened if they hadn’t been rained into playing Monday. I’m more troubled by the offense which seems to have collapsed under the weight of multiple nagging injuries.
They could put Bleier on the 60 day. No big loss. Walter is terrible, and the two top bullpen AA arms both pitched today so I don't know what they can do internally. Anyone know when Drohan last pitched? I know he's not ready but they might need a bulk arm.

Isn’t he likely back to Worcester in a few days? Nobody is claiming this guy, which is why he was called up to make the start.
They need to put another pitcher on the 26, right? Unless they add another one to the 40 as well (doubtful) I think that only leaves Walter and Mata as options.
Yes but Mata is hurt and Walter just pitched on the 6th, so doubt it’s either of them. If someone goes on the IL they could bring back Ort, Sheriff, or Murphy. Imagine they will want another lefty in the pen. Seems like Pivetta, Kluber, or Garza to the IL is most likely?
If it's a picher going on the IL, then that pitcher can be replaced by Sherriff(or Ort/Murphy), but that doesn't help with Dermody's pot. You can't call up two guys when only one goes on the IL.
Only option is if a position player goes on the IL, then I think they can have Sherriff replace the position player and then Duvall replace Dermondy.
Yeah, I get that. Duvall is replacing Dermody on the 40 and 26. For the other spot, I assume it’s a pitcher going on the IL and being replaced by one of the healthy relievers already on the 40.
He does not. You need 5 full years of major league service before you can refuse to be reassigned.
Especially when Kluber ended up throwing almost as many pitches as Dermody did. All they achieved by not starting Kluber is giving him another 90 minutes or so of rest.
Bloom managed to get a shitty start from a bad guy, people begging for Kluber to pitch in 2023 and a media shit storm all for a last place team’s craptastic June game in Cleveland.

A friend in Grad School- mind you art school with 25 students, about 10 of which were non-straight- progressive and accepting outwardly confided in me over beers one night when I asked about him going to church every Sunday that while he loved all the “gays” in our program he prayed for them every Sunday and was sad they were going to hell.
