Logan Mankins traded to Tampa Bay

By the way, can anyone really look back on that trade now and say it was a bad one?  We got a useful player (Wright:  26 rec, 6 td) and a 4th round pick and cap space and the OL held up better in the playoffs (and especially the Super Bowl) than it ever did during the playoffs with Mankins on the team.  Oh, and the Pats won the freaking Super Bowl too.  Younger, better, less expensive.

Is there anyone out there who still thinks that deal wasn't a good one for NE?

Oh and the 4th round pick is the first pick in the round... so it's almost like trading for a late 3rd round pick.

They also have to try and re-sign Revis and McCourty this year, which would have been even more difficult with less cap room.

Results wise that was pretty much as good as the trade could possibly have turned out.

Should trade with the Bucs more often.  Talib was a win.  Mankins trade turned out great.  Even the Casillas trade turned out only move the Pats down two picks.

Didn't they originally get Blount from TB in a trade as well? For Demps?

Demps and a 7th round pick (2013). But yes, the overall theme is clear. When in doubt, do a trade with Tampa Bay.

Wright was surprisingly impactful for a guy with only 26 catches and 259 yards. A lot of those 26 seemed important. He played particularly well, and gave the team a nice change of pace option, during the toughest stretch of the year.

Ive seen a few projections that think the Pats will have one of those compensatory picks at the end of the third for losing Talib primarily. It sure would be nice to have those three picks clustered around the end of day two, beginning of day three when teams are panicking/regrouping their boards.

The projections I've seen all have the Pats getting the very first comp pick and three league wide third round comp pick selection. So, ROG bullshit permitting, 32, 64, 96, 97, 101 then their own 4th, TBs 6th, Tenn 7th, and possibly a comp 7th depending on whether they get credit for losing Blount (sort of murky).

Demps for Blount was a good add, and the comp pick was for Talib (with the caveat the comp pick isn't totally from the trade)

So scoreboard is Mankins (who might have been cut anyways)/Demps(who was getting cut almost certainly)/low 4th/low 5th for Talib/Wright/Blount/Casillas/high 4th/high 6th/comp 3rd with possibly a comp 7th to come (less potential Mankins comp, but he probably wasn't playing out his deal regardless).

Yeah, trade with TB again please.
