The Colts run defense has been much better this year than their pass defense.  General consensus is that the Pats will come out run heavy, but I'm not seeing it.  Why get away from the Pats own strength and the defenses own weakness just because something worked last year?

I would expect the Colts to work on run defense all week, also.  So perhaps the Pats come in with 2 TE + LGBT formations making the Colts play base, then throw the ball?

I think...

I think Barbara Minty was an upgrade from Ali MacGraw.

the colts are super thin at DB (and also pretty terrible after Davis) so i think they might actually show a lot of 11 personnel early and spread em out. you can still check / motion into runs in this set with gronk and edelman more than capable of springing lewis. then go 2TE later and hit em with the blount force trauma.

obviously depends on what they're showing and giving you, and this would somewhat go against my earlier hypothesis about coming out conservative, but in many ways the mcdaniel pats have shown that the spread formation / short passing attack is their equivalent of a ball control / safe approach.

Maybe it just means that Larry Fitzgerald is finally getting traded to NE.  Do the Patriots still have any 6th round picks left?

With the inclusion of Carson Palmer in the opening image instead of Brady, I think the person assigned to the ESPN Twitter account is a Cardinals fan who refuses to believe that Tom Brady exists.

ESPN isn't allowed to discriminate by not hiring atheists.

ESPNFL getting their troll on during Indy week. I'd normally roll my eyes at such an accusation, but when it happens time and again with only one team, it seems intentional.

I think this is just an advance indication of the league's plan to vacate the Pats' 2015 season. In related news, there's apparently a picture of Poilan talking to a large, amorphous being who is oozing out of an antique lamp...

Yeah that's nutty.  I think even the most die-hard Patriots fan is glad that Chuck Pagano got better and is doing well.  And that Bruce Arians is in Arizona.

I like this one from that same article:

And Brady, it seems, has a subtle scheme going on to get one-on-one time with the refs. An e-mailer had the details.
"I watched Brady last season in non-Colts games, watched him fall at times, watched his teammates watch him on the ground... until a referee came over and helped Brady get up. Over and over, game after game," she wrote. "I doubt the teammates were loathe to help their quarterback up, I just think they were supposed to wait for the referee to do that. These encounters usually ended in a bit of conversation, sometimes a handshake, sometimes a bit more. I think this process/ social interaction works to soften the referee's attitude toward Brady. Look for it to reappear this season."
This is actually kind of brilliant. If the Pats aren't doing it? They should be.

They are taking things pretty seriously over at the IndyStar Colts forum.  Mods have stepped up their game in preparation for this key conference matchup:

As I'm sure we're all aware the Patriots games is coming up and given the events of the off season there's fair chance that tempers might run a little hotter than usual on the forum.

Let this then be fair warning to posters that we are going to be especially vigilant in enforcing the forum rules leading up, during and after the game. We'll have no compunction about limiting the posting privileges of those who step out of line. In case you're unaware of the rules they can be found here:
◾No baiting of, trolling of, or taking shots at other posters. There will no doubt be a fair degree of disagreement on things but this doesn't mean you have to resort to attacking other posters or groups of posters. Keep it civil.
◾Linked to the above, no "smack talk".
◾No vulgarity or profanity, we're a family orientated site and don't allow such things.
Gosh darn and Golly Gee Wilikers!

You know, the whole "they are cheating and the refs are on their side" narrative isn't all that compelling when you've been outscored about 200-10 on your last 4 matchups.

Really... no smack talk? Where's the fun in that? I can at least understand no trolling or vulgarity (as it's their perogative), but no smack talk?

What'e the point of having a message board?

Way to go. Good game. Attaboy. That was a sub-optimal outcome for your team.

Tickets: bought. Next up, making the sign: Snitches Get Stitches

That implies that the Patriots did something to be "snitched" on.

No it's not.

The "joke" in that sign is that the Patriots will beat up on the Colts for "snitching", i.e. ratting out the Patriots's ball manipulation scheme to the league.  It rests on the premise that the Patriots were actually doing something wrong.

The entire reason why deflategate is bullshit is because the Patriots did not do anything wrong in the first place.    The Patriots beat the shit out of the Colts fair and fucking square, and always have.

Making deflategate themed signs is playing on the Colts' fans' turf.  Don't go there.  Pick a sign that makes fun of the Colts for sucking and always losing.

I know all of this. The joke is the Colts TRIED to snitch because they were sore losers and incompetent enough to think Brady deflated footballs, rather than consider what actually happened (IGL).

Snitches get stitches, right or wrong. Period. The debate itself as to whether they were right or wrong doesn't matter.

The cheating narrative is so tired.  I was laid up yesterday and got caught in the fox hole of some other teams message boards (I'll admit, I like to go and look what is being said.  I never take the time to register an account and actually make a post).  But the amount of patriots cheating posts is absurd.  There were threads on every board about the Pats running pick plays and rarely getting called for it.  This is their new method of cheating now.

The best rant I saw, though, was a Steeler fan (I think they are the most paranoid fan base when it comes to thinking the Pats are up to no good. In the wake of the headset "controversy, a fan suggested that the Patriots should have to forfeit their 1st and 2nd round draft picks for 2016 and 2017, no home games for 2016 and 2017, and Belichick, Kraft, and Brady suspended for two years.  And better yet, if they try to appeal, the rest of the NFL teams should refuse to play them.

The paranoia is real, friends.  Fans of these teams cannot come up with a way as to how we're just better than everybody.

He admits to being a homer, rails against the evil patriots, and builds in the excuse of a rusty Luck for when the blowout occurs.

Some of the best snippets (and classic Doyel)

Brady had his suspension overturned in September for the legal gobbledygookiest of reasons. A U.S. District Court didn’t find Brady innocent. It found NFL commissioner Roger Goodell guilty of overplaying his hand.
Quarterback Andrew Luck might play this week. Might not. The Colts don’t have much going for them in this matchup – they don’t play, coach or cheat as well as the Patriots......
If this is me playing the lame homer card, fine. The Patriots cheated the team in my city. Residents of Indianapolis and the surrounding areas, you give the Colts the best you’ve got: money, emotion, more. The Patriots rigged the AFC title game. Cheated the Colts. Cheated you.  Sickening.

Oh, and I forgot he ended with this gem

Should the Colts concede a likely defeat, in other words, and lean on Luck’s unavailability as a crutch?
In a word: No. In two words: (Expletive) no. The Colts should give this game the best they’ve got, not because it’s the Patriots but because it’s the next game on the schedule, and the next game is always the most important game. Besides, only a scared team would sit a healthy quarterback.
Only a scared team would cheat, too.
Let’s not be scared around here, OK? Let’s not be anything like the franchise coming to town on Sunday.

Hoo-hoo-hoo hoosier land.
IMHO, Doyel couldn't give two farts about the Colts or the Patriots' evil ways. I don't think he's even from Indiana, and he's only been writing here for ~1 year. This is all red meat for the unwashed masses.

He didn't even call them his team, he said the team in my city. What a hack.

On this score, at least, he has no worries. Nobody believes the Colts are anything like the Pats, or vice-versa. If you asked most football fans to associate the following words/phrases with one or the other franchise:
  • Defending champs
  • Can't stop the run
  • HOF QB
  • Tanked to get a #1 pick who turned into Andrew Luck, for better and worse
  • Look for excuses after they get beaten
  • Beat other teams in the playoffs
  • Raise banners to celebrate losses
  • Raise banners to celebrate Lombardis
...I'm guessing most fans would get 'em all right...
