FVV gets more than Kyrie. Yikes.

Well at least they have salary ballast to trade for Brown next summer :p

Do you think it was a good move for Dallas? Both the trade and signing?
Kinda had hands tied as they had to do something and didn't have many assets with which to do anything. They painted themselves into this corner well before the Kyrie deal.

It’s a relatively short deal so I don’t see the problem for Houston despite the massive overpay. He’s a good player but I don’t see the fit with Ime at all.

Yeah I assume it was a package deal... We turn down your super-cheap option and you give us a solid discount, like baseball teams buying out arbitration years
Just the way it worked with Carlos Boozer and Cleveland. Oh.., sorry..,wrong universe.

Was the Austin Reaves deal ever confirmed? The only report I saw was a report that the LAL "planned to offer" Reaves a deal. Feels like they're out of $ at this point.

He is their guy, so I think they'd still be able to match whatever someone else offers. No idea if they can still offer what they did.

They offerred him the max they can with Early Birds, but likely he will wait and see if another team offers him more, if one does he signs the offer sheet and Lakers have 24 hours to match. Cap space is irrelevant since he's an RFA with early bird rights, they just have a cap hold which is low.

Yes, only question is how much tax they want to pay. Not sure if they are approaching the 2nd threshhold yet

There's always a bigger idiot.

Mark Cuban is high on the list of people I thought were much smarter than they actually are.
Kyrie would do a great job talking game on Shark Tank, as we saw early in his Boston tenure. He just hasn't been in Dallas long enough to show his whole ass.

Cultural hub of the universe
Brogdon is clearly a better shooter, but it's about roster fit + adding Slo Mo...

Ball security in the Playoffs is an obvious place where this team could improve.

I think we'll get that with White as the starting PG. I'd be fine with a little less scoring PG from the bench with fewer turnovers & better passing.
I could see DWhite being a marginally better ball handler than Smart in the fewer turnovers, but he's less of a playmaker than Smart so that means the ball will be in Tatum and Brown's hands. Improvement in ball security will only happen if those guys improve.

I assume 2nd JRich year is a player option? Only way that deal really makes sense.

Oops, just reread & it's in the Tweet nvm. Miami traffic is miserable, but I get it.

PLAY-IN GAME HERE THE RAPTORS COME!

They're just Bulls North at this point
This one surprised me than the rest today. It sure seemed like Schroder had dropped down towards NBA minimum level, but suddenly gets a really nice contract. I don't get it. He's not a terrible player to have deep on the roster for vet minimum, but this is awful

Seeing Chicago and Toronto deals, I think Orlando is looking at a play in spot this year

He had a nice year last year, word was he was in line for a tax MLE or part of the full MLE. TOR is desperate so they dropped the full MLE and a 2nd year, good sized overpay

Did he have a nice year? 41.5% from floor, 32.9% from 3 4.5 assists, 1.7 turnovers.

But yeah he seemed to fit somewhat better there than his previous few spots

I'm already annoyed that Reeves is going to be a bargain because nobody has the cap left to make him a big offer

Given the reigns, I expect White will surprise to the upside and expect ball security to improve.

Might be worse than the Kyrie contract.

The little editorial comments ("in his prime") in these tweets today are cringe. Woj and Shams are 2 of the most revolting characters in sports media.
Situationally I think it's not as bad.
FVV is pretty good, they needed to sign someone into that cap space (they'll literally make tens of millions in cash by reaching the floor) and he's a nice fit to bring structure and defensive intensity/know-how to a young team that desperately needs both. THey have no chance of competing this year or next, so he's really just a development assistant for 2 years then a nice 45M matching salary the year they hope to be ready to go for it.

Danny and Pop have room, I think (and hope). The Lakers will match, but I hope someone inflicts pain.
HOU is the only one I could see making an offer at this point, the others I think will focus on guys who "might" not get matched like Grant Williams or Washington... or UFA like Russell. etc.

Curious: who does the Port Cellar have as the ugliest contract given out today? Kyrie? FVV? Jerami Grant at $150M?

no they have money, just pretty sure they aren't a team that will make a sheet offer. The teams that would bother (like IND) are mostly full up
My only hope for them was Pop's longstanding hatred for the Lakers. One of his better qualities despite being a generally good person overall.

TOugh call, all bad but different reasons.

Probably Grant. It's the longest, it's a bad deal, and it shows a terrible play the middle strategy that won't work.

Kyrie is bad because he's a flake, but he's talented. FVV is an intentional overpay for CBA and future matching purposes

Even if he doesn't play a game, I think Rose to Memphis is a good signing (assuming money is short). He is a Memphis guy, and a good locker room guy. Will be great for Ja to have around
Really? Notorious piece of shit Derrick Rose?

Oh I think the players will like him. Who is popular in lockerooms and who is not a shitty human being are not always the same thing.
OK very fair. I will admit, I miss the old days of my youth when I didn't know anything about the guys off the court, with the exception of the occasional puff piece
