Now his callers are calling Belichick a terrible personnel guy who misses on all of his draft picks.  God, this is unlistenable.  Time to go to Pandora.

And, it's just because of that 6th round QB pick that the team has been good at all.  What a joke.

Boggles the mind that a team that has been on top for going on 13 years STRAIGHT still has their philosophy questioned.

But, but, but..they haven't won it all in 9 years!

Don't you know that if the team stopped trying to win at the negotiation table, and put their egos aside, Kevin Faulk wouldn't have fumbled in '05, Troy Brown wouldn't have run the wrong route in '06, Asante Samuel would have caught the fucking ball in '07, Brady's knee wouldn't have exploded in '08 and Welker would have caught the ball in '11!

The Patriots have had a remarkable 12 season run, the first 4 years saw a ridiculous stretch of good luck, and the last 8 a whole bunch of bad luck. But that's not fun to talk about..so we get this shit.

Why are you guys listening any more?  Honestly?  We all knew exactly what the "hot take" was going to be.  You're not learning anything from Felger or getting a new take on things.  It's not even shocking in a Howard Stern way, you know exactly what they're going to say before they even get on the air.  Why are you subjecting yourself to it?

Yup, I've migrated back over to WEEI between 2-6 now. Salk and Holley are far from perfect, but Felger has lost me. I likely won't be back until they wise up and find a better partner for him than Mazz.

Not answering for everyone but I listen a few times a week because I like sports and when I get in my car/turn on my TV..they're there. I also liked the show a lot for like 2 years so I'm hoping that it gets better..kind of like being in a relationship that's awesome and then turns shitty but you hold on to hope. Except the relationship is  with two 40-something year old men's sports takes.

But I feel like I listen a little less each month.

Felger just said Chris Gasper has a better command of the NFL Draft than any other local writer or reporter.

I assume by "any other local writer or reporter" he means "those that would agree to come on our program, assuming they're contractually eligible to do so."

Gasper's about 5th on the local depth chart -- 4th if you've already bid Bedard adieu -- and he can't carry Reiss's jockstrap.

There's a reason Gasper is still a local Boston writer and almost everybody else to cover the Pats in the last 10 years went national.

I'm in the same boat, I listened to them all the time in the car and on my PC when in the office. Now I occasionally check in when in the car and listen to S&H in the office. They just say nothing new at all just the same tired talking points.
The whole Texas Tough Guy stuff last year is when they started to lose me but with a half decent show on at their competition now I'm over them.

The complaints about F&M are almost as repetitive as F&M. Almost. At least no one here has a high pitched whiny voice.

Any intelligent person who still listens to this show is a masochist. There is no other explanation.

edit: I mean it's not just this show, it's sports radio period, but it seems like people still have some bizarre sort of hope that these guys can be different.

At this point it's like The Walking Dead thread or even a great candidate for JMOH's new Good TV Shows squandered thread. F&M (at least Felger and Beetle) have shown they know how to put on a good show that was everything that The Big Show wasn't. They weren't homers, Felger would take contrarian or different views but wouldn't be trolling because he would have his own logic to back up his reasoning so you could see where he was coming from even if you disagreed with his stance. Felger would even admit when he was wrong and allowed the station to make fun of him for it like they did with the Marchand stuff after the Bruins won the Cup. It was refreshing.

Now he doesn't even bother explaining his reasoning as if it should be obvious and I can't remember the last time he has admitted he was wrong or really poked fun at himself. So everyone that followed and enjoyed F&M the last few years wishes that show they enjoyed would come back and can't change the channel. I said it above Salk and Holley have become my go to station until 5:30 when I switch or listen to I heart radio.

Felger and Mazz sound more and more like the Big Show with each passing month.  It's just three opinionated guys shouting and making bad jokes and stupid noises instead of 5 or 6.  Hell, the whiner line, as unentertaining as it was, is better  than listening to Mazzerotti squeak at 78 rpm.

Disappointing, epecially if your world doesn't revolve arount the Bruins.

Today they're ridiculing the Pats taking 3 Rutgers players in the draft and signing another as an undrafted free agent.

Neither Felger, Mazz or Beetle know which conference Rutgers is moving to.

Yep, heard that on the way back from a Starbucks run and realized I wouldn't be listening for the rest of the day.  "You're right Mike, Bill wanted to help out an old buddy by drafting Rutgers players rather than do what was best for the Patriots."  Not a direct quote but the gist of Felger's take on the draft.

Caller: "Letting a gay guy play in the NBA is a bad business move."
Felger: "How is it bad for business? You wouldn't watch?"
Caller: "People might not want to watch gay dudes."
Felger: "Do you not want to watch a gay player?"
Caller: "Yeah. I don't"
Felger: "Well I think bigots like yourself...the NBA can afford to lose."

:EDIT: Felger: "What does it matter? Can he play?!"

As much as the NFL draft stuff is annoying, he's great in moments like these. He's been solid on the Bruins all show as well.  On big sports radio days like today, I still tune into F&M first to see what they have to say.

Felger:

Is Belichick doing Schiano a favor by drafting Rutgers guys?
Is Belichick taking drafting advice from his son who went to Rutgers?

Is he fucking serious?

Not really defending Felger's stubbornness wrt to the Patriots draft strategies but BB's son walked on and was a long snapper at RU so, he would have some insight as to what these guys were like in the locker room, how they practiced, etc.

What favors would Belichick be doing for Schiano?  Felger is aware that Schiano is an NFL head coach now, right?  That he could draft these guys himself rather than call in favors to get them into the NFL?

And Mazz thinks Belichick goes off the grid with his picks "just to screw with everybody."

Hey, that's more plausible than them actually thinking they can get a good player there...

It's like they're looking at this whole situation as there is only 1 great player in the draft and the odds of getting him are greater if you pick higher.

They can't be as stupid as they are acting with this draft stuff.
They have to just be doing it to tweak Pats fans.

Edit: I take it back to some extent, Mazz is likely this stupid I believe Felger is doing it to stir things up.

Earlier in the shower, Felger was going on and on about how Ozzie Newsome was a great GM and he didn't trade out of the first round and instead took the player he wanted in the first round.  Then someone called in and told them that Newsome has traded out of the first round twice in the past four years and Mike's response was "but he didn't this year!"  And they went to commercial.

Warning, they are ripping the local media for being fanboys by saying clay isn't doctoring the ball.

Basically saying that, hey, what is there to say he ISN'T doctoring the ball

Beetle was fantastic today mocking the others in the studio with all their "Knicks are done if they lose tonight." talk. His line about David Stern stepping in to advance the Celtics directly to the second round after 6 games, acknowledging the city of Boston has endured a tough time lately, was hilarious.

Last night on Comcast Sports Tonight, I learned from Felger that Lucic and Horton having success in the playoffs proves that had been dogging it during the regular season. Now I think this is a potentially interesting topic, and certainly RMPS has been discussing Lucic's poor regular season in great detail. But since Felger's first instinct it to always go negative, I found myself dismissing him right away.

In 2009-2011 when hockey was having a local renaissance both on the ice and on the radio, Felger was, for me, the number radio source for hockey talk (at worst #2 after Dale Arnold). Now, I can't even stand to hear him open his mouth about the Bruins. I am not sure that he has damaged his brand permanently, but he certainly has hurt it significantly.

Yesterday he was talking about the Celtics and how he hates hates hates hates them b/c of them beating his beloved Bucks when he was growing up and how he could never root for them...until Rondo went down and he wanted to prove that Rondo isn't good, or something.  You don't need to be a homer, but when you are the exact opposite of that, it just shows a lack or professionalism and that you can't take anything that he says about the Celtics seriously.

He also called Danny Ainge (the player) a prick...which i thought the censors would have caught, but didn't.

I turn them on and the first thing I hear is Wiggy proclaiming that Paul Pierce will be rejuvenated by a trade to the Clippers and then Felger pipes in with his "When is Trader Danny gonna show up" schtick.  It's almost as if they are trying to put on a parody of the worst possible Felger and Mazz show.

Turned it on today for the 10 questions for Wiggy segment. Heard a pretty interesting debate on whether you'd rather have fingers the size of legs, or legs the size of fingers. Wiggy went with leg sized fingers because there's just no way your finger sized legs could support your upper body weight. Mazz rebutted by saying Wiggy was underestimating just how much of a hassle it would be to drag 10 leg sized fingers around.

And then they started talking about Jeff Green's lack of heart and I put on a CD.

Danny Ainge, the player, was a colossal prick. He was the quintessential "I'd hate him if he was on another team" guy (current example: Brad Marchand).

Tree Rollins gets bad rap; curiously, everyone seems to have decided to forget Robert Horry's similar judgement on Ainge because it doesn't fit into the "Big Shot Bob" legend.

I keep hearing over and over this sort of thing.  Honestly I don't see it.  And the ratings don't seem to back that up.

We'll see, maybe you guys are right.  I see the same show......its flawed but its the best in Boston right now.

That said, as I've aged I can't seem to listen to ANY talk show for extended periods of time.  The format just doesn't lend to it because they repeat the same stuff over and over.  Probably because the average listener in this day and age doesn't listen too long.

Also, loved the Canadian hate.  When Felger genuinely hates something it makes for great radio.
