Yesterday Mazz was saying that Barnes was overrated - he was fine coming in for ERod on Tuesday, but that was the 5th and 6th, who cares? What has he ever done in a high pressure situation in the seventh, eighth, or ninth?

Felger pointed out that he saved the team's ass against the Yankees in the ninth just last week, the definition of a high pressure situation. Mazz immediately changed his tune to "What has he done in the seventh or eighth," which he repeated twice.

Quality stuff right there.

What's worse is the idiots arguing with him about his trolling of Mazz. "Yeah but Price has SUCKED this year!"

Twitter is the worst thing to have been invented in the last 40 years. My god.
Twitter is the best thing and the worst thing at the same time. Fans have never had so much information but a sub section are such asshats that it makes it difficult to enjoy it.

The worst thing invented in the history of the planet is clearly youtube comments. At best they're inane, at worst they're racist, hate filled garbage that make you wonder why someone would click on a link to a 12 year old singing and make a comment about abortion.

But twitter is pretty bad too. Except for J Jonah Jameson and Florida Man, they're cool by me.

It's not Twitter it's just internet comments in general on sites. Saw a stat today .06% of an articles readers comment. It's really bit there for any real purpose but to feed trolls.

Twitter is awesome. I live on it for updates related to work and sports. I almost never read the replies. Obama!!!!!!

I don't think they understand what it means to be logical anymore. If a guy is having a great season, it's better living through, ahem, chemistry. If he's having a bad season, he just sucks and needs to be sent to the glue factory. The only way to avoid their ire is to have an average season and even then they'll complain if it's a decrease in production. Controversy creates cash, I suppose, but it's really old already. It's a shame that this is what Boston/New England sports radio has become.
SoSH Radio is now needed more than ever. Can't and don't even listen to them anymore unless something big is going down and I'm desperate.

Felger, Mazz and Murray have had a collective boner for 2:12 right now over Jimmy G and the Pats. Not the most negative show lately.

I forgot how much Felger and Mazz suck following a Patriots win.

They go crazy, as if they lost. Blount still "sucks," Felger says. Jim Murray: Collins is overrated.

Not all of their crtitiques are wrong and some are on point, but you wouldn't think the Pat's won the friggin game yesterday. And in Arizona. Without Gronk and with our backup and a third stringer.

Also, if they have had a segment on the Red Sox amazing weekend, I haven't heard it mentioned. I get that football is the biggest game in town and there is tons of news and fodder with Brady/Jimmy/Jacoby etc...

But one segment on the Red Sox, sweeping the Yankees (with multiple inprobable comebacks in succession) in the 2nd half of September is pretty unfortunate.

Yes northeastern, they have a collective boner for our injured QB. But even accounting for that, they are literally screaming about everything that sucks -- the defense, Blount (who is 4th in the league), who started in the pre-season, how much Miami sucks which makes their shitty win in excusable and on and on.

The boner for Jimmy G isn't so much positive as tragic, anyway (I don't mean tragic in the hyperbolic sense, just the structure of the narrative).

EDIT: minor change to language

I've been on calls since then but what i heard was:

-Jimmy G - call a doctor it's been over 4 hours
-Backup QB - BB will not call in a backup, it's dumb, it's Brissett & Jimmy or Edelman and that's 100% right decision
-The defense imploded - this is 100% true, go see BBtL.

In terms of the Red Sox, tough shit. Red Sox ruled this town for decades. The Pats played yesterday, the QB went down, the next game is in 3 days, get over it. They're in the business of ratings. I'd love to hear some Sox talk but there's the Baseball Reporters 6-7 if you want that on a day like today.

Most of what i heard earlier was overly positive. They shit on the rest of the NFL's QB's for a long time and saying they wish they had Jimmy G.

It's amazing that after 5 years that people still get a hair across their ass over them. You know what they are, you know what they're going to deliver and people still get upset. Give them a call 617-779-0985, ask for Mike or Tony.

The worst part of the Patriots QB situation is I now have to listen to Felger mispronounce Brissett's name for 2 weeks.

The Sox winning the way they did has created the perfect storm for Mazz...first Price has a bad outing then Kimbrel blows up. Nothing but doom and gloom tomorrow for sure.

BOSTON (CBS) — Today, as another summer fully fades and another autumn earnestly begins, we step off the mound or out of the batter’s box and take a moment to reflect, to collect ourselves, to give the 2016 Boston Red Sox a most sincere appreciation in the most traditional way: with a subtle, grateful and honest tip of the cap.

Because the 2016 Red Sox did not have the American League East Division championship given to them, nor did they win it by mistake.

They won the division in the most impressive fashion.

Which is to say they blistered the competition down the stretch.

Heard a little bit yesterday...

Are they running with this notion that Ted Williams wasn't the player that Ortiz is, because those Red Sox teams (and Ted) were LOSERS, LOSERS, LOSERS!!!!

Talk about a ridiculous troll job.

This is a Felger Staple.

That and the celebration of losing in 1967. He's already prepping for the ceremonies of the 50th anniversary of being a loser team next year.

I didn't hear the whole thing, mainly because I couldn't stomach it. But it appeared Mazz was hyperventilating about Garroppolo being listed as questionable and then being inactive. His reaction made it seem as if it was the biggest scandal since the original Watergate, if not bigger. Can someone clarify why he had such a bug up his ass on this point? Because it made him sound even dumber than he normally sounds.

Gronkowski is soft, this team is completely undisciplined, and Belichick is pushing Rob Gronkowski out of the offense.

This is worse than the Terry Glenn situation, and Party Gronk simply doesn't have his heart into it anymore and his personal life is getting in the way of his conditioning.

HOT TAKEZ GALORE RIGHT NOW

You guys are actually underselling how ridiculous they were being today.
Why should today be any different than any other day.

Although Felger did make a good point about playoff baseball, with the wild card one game do or die format, the possibility of the Jays and Rangers renewing their blood feud and a possible Red Sox/Cubs World Series being a better watch right now that October NFL football.

No argument from me; October baseball is right up there with the NHL playoffs.

"Didn't Ellsbury always have hamstring issues?"
"Yes, he did!!!"

No, he had "dudes the size of linebackers running in to him and falling on him" issues

Go f*ck yourself
Giardi slammed Felger to the turf here over his stupid speculations about Jimmy G's toughness
http://www.csnne.com/video/mike-giardis-takedown-michael-felger-jimmy-garoppolos-injury
He might be a contrarian prick, but hot damn he is a handsome devil.

And yes they're both still on it today, trying on some conspiracy theories for size as to why Jimmy G was able to play yesterday, but couldn't 1 week prior. As if 7 days worth of treatment/rest/healing is nothing.

F&M (and the rest of TSH) all year: I can't believe the Red Sox picked up Farrell's option. Why can't they just let the year ride out and see where he is and then access if he ca be the manager? It's insane they picked up his option.
F&M (and the test of TSH) this week: Wow. they brought back Farrell but they didn't even pick up his option. That goes to show you they don't trust him long term. Why not pick up the option? You like him, you want him to stay, pick up the option so no one (eg. US) question who the long term manager is.

Why Do I Continue To Listen To Felger and Mazz?
I haven't listened to Felger and Mazz since audible.com. The Game Of Thrones books are about 40 hours each, which is good for about a month of commuting.

Some guy called in today, joking (I think) that the cubs will never win for karma for getting into the 1908 WS because of Merkle's Boner. They had to look it up and had never heard of it.

They were hamming up the Boner part, obviously, but then Mazz's voiced trailed off when he started to read something like... It remains one of the most famous endings in any baseball game ever as well as the most controversial...

I know this is a hardcore baseball site, but shouldn't they both know that?

It happened over 100 years ago and unless you are a hardcore fan of the Cubs and/or the Giants (or of baseball in general), it's understandable to not know about that play.

Felger is an easy one to give a pass to on this topic. Mazz, as a guy who has primarily been a baseball reporter, gets less of one but still, it's not really something that every baseball fan or reporter should know about off the top of their head.

Mazz (and really Felger too) should have known about Merkle's Boner. It's one of the more famous plays in the early part of not only baseball history, but sports in general.

Especially for the name Merkle's Boner. Jesus, that's grade school level guffaws there.

And Merkle's Boner was followed a few years later by the equally famous Snodgrass' Muff.

(I dont know where I learned those, but I've known them for as long as I can remember).
