Big game-state effects. We don't know whether England would have sat back so much if they hadn't scored so early.
He was on the touchline barely over the halfway line with 2 defenders in the center. Usain Bolt wouldn't have been able to make that one on one with the keeper.
Just want to praise Roberto Mancini here. England were just killing Emerson for 10-15 minutes the same way Gosens was murdering Semedo against Portugal. Mancini fixed it inside of 20 minutes and you haven’t seen a free man down that side since
Mancini has been running circles around Southgate all night. Switch the managers and England would be winning this game easily.
I was going to say the same. With a competent manager England would have floated through this tournament.
The *one time* that Sterling has green grass in front of him, and he fumbles the dribble so badly.
Southgate must be holding hope the existing squad can get a goal so he can make a bunch of defensive subs. That seems ill-advised.
What is Sterling doing? That was terrible. To beat a dead horse it looked like he was getting ready to dive but no one was around him...

It;s really incomprehensible. Why are you waiting to do the sub on the 98th minute and not at the beginning of extra time? Are you waiting to see what Mancini does in order to adjust?
There was also the other bad one where Ricardo Clark turned into Ricardo Clark on the pitch.
