Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

Right there with Jenkins' great columns as the best overview of this mess/take down of the dumpster fire that is the league office right now. I never underestimate the capacity for stupid arrogance and tone-deafness from these fuckers, but this does feel like a tipping point. Hopefully the reports earlier today of a growing number owners seeing the need for change have traction.
Like Jenkins'stupid arrogance and tone-deafness as Lance Armstrong went after supporters who told the truth under oath? People who had defended him, feed him, and he turned on them becaue they had the adaucity to tell the truth about Lance? Who does Mort have to support to become a hero now? Ortiz?

Facebook statement from Brady:

The regular season starts tomorrow morning and I can’t wait to fully commit my energy and emotion to focus on the challenges of the 2015 NFL season. I want to thank my family, my friends, all of the fans, past and current players and my teammates for the support they have given me throughout this challenging experience. I also want to thank Judge Berman and his staff for their efforts to resolve this matter over the past five weeks. I am very grateful. My thanks also to the union's legal team who has fought so hard right along with me. While I am pleased to be eligible to play, I am sorry our league had to endure this. I don’t think it has been good for our sport - to a large degree, we have all lost. I am also sorry to anyone whose feelings I may have hurt as I have tried to work to resolve this situation. I love the NFL. It is a privilege to be a member of the NFL community and I will always try to do my best in representing my team and the league in a way that would make all members of this community proud. I look forward to the competition on the playing field and I hope the attention of NFL fans can return to where it belongs - on the many great players and coaches who work so hard every week, and sacrifice so much, to make this game great. Most importantly, I look forward to representing the New England Patriots on Thursday night in our season opener. I hope to make all of our fans proud this year … and beyond!

Looks like we need to add something to Tom's cv - Master of the Friday news dump.

Seeing the extremely early returns on the tweets reporters are focusing on him saying everybody lost( true and indisputable) and apologizing to people ( may get pressed on that by our terribly cynical world).

First word that I took from it. The guy exudes class and people who hate him are poor delusional fools.

Seriously. I'll never get what more people want from this guy. He's never in the news for legitimate problems, is heavily involved in his communities and various charitable organizations, takes pay cuts for the betterment of his team, never shoves the "Jesus" card down everyone's throat, puts his teammates and coaches first, was drafted late and worked his ass off to get where he's at (and still takes none of it for granted), has been loyal to the league and his team's fanbase, never throws anyone under the bus - EVER, and somehow manages to never take himself too seriously.

Honestly, World, what the fuck? Tom Brady literally is the personification of the American Dream. Even better, because he's 0% dickhead about his success, which 99% of us wouldn't pull off nearly as well as he does if we all experienced similar success. Get off of the guy's ass for a second and just appreciate that people like him - who always keep the "big picture" in life in mind - still exist.

Tom Brady is an excellent human being. Hate him for beating your team, fine, but respect the guy for what he is and where he started; if you can't do that you're just a miserable douchebag. This is a dude who was handed nothing, earned everything, and never for a second rubs it in anyone's face. Again - what more do you want?

What a buffoon.

Stradley has been great but I wish people would stop including her in the parade of Twitter bullshit that has been going on.  She has addressed it a couple of times but I hate that she gets dragged into this stuff.  She has been a tremendous resource but people have to ruin everything.

Sorry to anyone's feelings he has hurt? WTF? Did Don Yee write that?

The rest of the statement is good, but that sticks out to me. It won't be interpreted well. And frankly, it's just odd. Is he talking to Giselle? Mark Brunell? Why is he apologizing to anybody?

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but interesting piece on why the media performed as it did during #DFG:

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/nfl-deflategate-sports-media-roger-goodell-tom-brady-new-england-patriots/?ex_cid=story-twitter

Side note: I feel as if I've read as many pieces ABOUT Bob Kravitz as I have pieces by him. As a Pats fan, I'm not angry at Kravitz. I just find his whole mannered "Woe is the plight of the intrepid sports reporter – fetch me another beer, woncha Kath?" act to be unbelievably tired and self-serving.

So when are we getting the Brady interview(s)? Bye week before the Colts? Will we ever see DoritoDink and Jastremski? I think so, when is an interesting question.

I wonder if he'll do something with NBC/Al Michaels (screw Collinsworth) for the opener.

Dan Patrick said today that they don't have anything scheduled with Brady as of yet and he didn't expect they'd get an interview.

Edit - Just to clarify, Patrick was talking about the NBC pregame show that he hosts.  He wasn't talking about his radio show.

Would think there is little chance Brady is going to focus on media availability around this topic this week. If I had to guess, the guy has been seething over this for the better part of half of a year – and if I'm advising or coaching him, I'm telling Brady to focus on the game at hand – and channel his frustrations accordingly.

Looks like someone put words in his mouth and on his byline.

So Bob Kravitz, upon coming face to face with the final opinion on the shit storm he created, says:

"God, this is gonna be boring."

I mean... Holy fuck.

Here's the problem: people who cover sports, and work in sports, are generally stupid people. That's all there is to it.

I think I'd dispute that. A lot of great writers get their start in sports. That said, there is a type—lazy, sardonic, entitled—that absolutely sucks. Kravitz, with all his beer swilling, reluctant warrior crap is def. in that camp.

"Generally". Not all.

EDIT: you know what? You're right. The problem is more that there are precious few sports writers that treat the topic as journalism. So it gets dumbed down.

I think it works backwards too where great writers can be beaten down by the relentless entertainment machines of big time professional sports. For instance, both Jackie Mac and Ryan seemed to write as if #DFG was some annoying trifle – as if their prime motivations were to "get the whole thing over already." By contrast, younger Jackie and Bob would have absolutely gone to town on this story.

I respectfully disagree that Brady's statement is a good one.  This reads like his first press conference -- he wants you to believe he did nothing wrong, but he won't state without equivocation that these accusations are without merit.

It is really disconcerting how few times Brady and Yee have explicitly said "I/Tom did nothing wrong."  Yee's first press statement didn't say it explicitly, and now Brady avoids saying that in his statement.  Why not write "Given that I did nothing wrong, I am pleased to be able to play and am sorry our league had to endure this?"   I don't understand why you would issue a statement like this without giving your fans one last reassurance that you were 100% innocent.

Further, "...I will always try to do my best in representing my team and the league in a way that would make all members of this community proud." sounds awful.  Why not "I have always done, and will always do, my best to represent my team and the league..."  The way it's written suggests that there have been times when he has not always tried to do so.

I don't think it's that hard to put out a classy statement while also defending yourself.  Saying you're innocent won't convince the haters of anything, but as a Patriots fan, I'd have appreciated a statement from Brady that said explicitly that he has nothing to hide and did nothing wrong.

Edit:  In other news, this is interesting.  I don't buy that it's actually his dad.  There are lots of videos of his dad speaking on YouTube, and the voice sounds different to me.  FWIW, KGO is a talk station, not one of the all-sports stations in the Bay Area.

This is from one month ago...
"I did nothing wrong and no one in the Patriots organization did either. The fact is neither I, nor any equipment person has done anything we have been accused of." He then went into further detail of never texting anyone about psi in footballs, etc.

He also testified under oath. I mean, WTF do people want? Every time he speaks he has to plead his innocence?

Wow.  If that was Brady's dad calling in, that was kinda awesome and definitely interesting.  I've seen his dad interviewed many times and I've seen The Brady 6 a gazillion times and that didn't sound like Tom Sr....but who know?  Either way, he knew the facts and had this Chip Franklin clown back peddling.

some proper wailing cries of innocence. Maybe rend a garment or two to show he has nothing to hide.

Might even consider a blood oath.

He might get some traction.

He said Jastremski and McNally testified they never did anything and it was completely left out of the report. This is a new fact isn't it?

That's a fair point. Maybe he felt like his prior post covered this territory, so he'd focus on moving forward in this one. I still think repeating "I did nothing wrong" would have been preferable, but reasonable minds can disagree.

I'm not sure if it's a new "fact", but isn't it something that we could deduce as soon as the Wells Report came out? I mean, we know they testified (JM testifying four times) and it's been said that they were completely forthcoming. If they admitted to doing anything wrong, it would be in the report. Hence, it must be true that they testified they never did anything and it was completely left out of the report.

The more significant quality of that post I felt was him coming off as a far wiser and more compassionate statesman for the NFL than the commissioner who's latest dispatch is appealing Berman behind his shredded cloak of "integrity of the game."

At this point Brady is no longer the one embattled. A high-roading inclusive 'let's move on' tone seems appropriate.

I agree, but he should have at least qualified the apology line. "I apologize to anyone I have offended the past 8 months...I have been under a large amout of stress and have not been myself." Something like that.

He's probably not changing any minds on Facebook anyway, though, so not a huge deal. He should do a sitdown or two some point this season, and I would be surprised if he didn't.

It's crazy that his dad finally popped and called into a show two days after the case was decided. He sounded exactly like every other Pats fan – same arguments in the face of insanity, same level of exasperation.

People should listen to the audio. Before Brady's dad calls in, the host is literally asking if you started a team would you rather have a "cheater, bad sport and a big baby" like Tom Brady ("a certain kind of player in a system") or a "winner" like Tim Tebow. Even after all this I think I forget how rock fucking dumb people around the country are about this kind of stuff.
