Dark arts were involved!? No wonder the Colts' balls were able to violate the Ideal Gas Law to remain in compliance!SeoulSoxFan said:@IanKenyonNFL I'm fine with four game suspension. Confused by the first rounder unless they think Belichick and craft were involved in the deflations...
While we cannot be certain when the activity began, the evidence suggests that January 18th was not the first and only occasion when this occurred, particularly in light of the evidence referring to deflation of footballs going back to before the beginning of the 2014 season.

I'm sure it probably won't. But the absurdity of this whole thing has led me to believe that anything can happen.Average Reds said:

I'm pretty sure I remember stuff about Brady reaching out to Herlizch when he had cancer at BC.J.McG said:
The NFLPA executive committee is pretty stacked with former Brady teammates and potential sympathizers:
Former teammates: Adam Vinatieri, Benjamin Watson, Brian Waters, Jay Feely (teammate at Michigan, who I believe is also a close personal friend of Brady's)
Potential sympathizers: Zak DeOssie (son of noted Belichick loyalist, Steve DeOssie; native New Englander)
Wildcards/neutral(?) parties: Eric Winston (NFLPA President), Mark Herzlich, Lorenzo Alexander, Scott Wells
Potential antagonists: Ryan Clark (former Steelers safety who has been a vocal critic of the Pats, Brady in particular), Matt Hasselbeck (Colts backup QB, brother of leading Brady critic, Tim Hasselbeck)
Obviously the NFLPA has to go to bat for Brady regardless, but I'd hope at least some of the executives above take Brady's treatment as a personal affront, and will therefore take particular interest in ripping the league a new asshole when this goes to appeal.
Same, feels just like when I was 8 and realized the WWE was fake. Just so disappointed at the complete bs that is this process, it's unfortunate to see this happen to what was my favorite sport. Nascar has more credibility and a better management system. Just funny, no other reaction, too far beyond reality to be anything else. Still curious if we just watched the tipping point.Ed Hillel said:I'm sorry, but there's really a part of this that is just hysterical. These were predictable. They may be the only part of the penalties that stand when this is over.tims4wins said:Yeah I totally expected the TB suspension but the draft picks and million dollar fine are mind blowing
Tell us that you are guilty or we will believe that you are not telling us everything. This thinking is insane. Anyone good enough to hack into the NFL network and release all of their emails? They would be a fun read.SeoulSoxFan said:So Troy Vincent and Goodell are the real Dynamic Duo. Per Reiss: http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4781363/blistering-penalty-handed-down-to-tom-brady-patriots
Past history and lack of cooperation cited a factor. NFL Executive Vice President Troy Vincent cited the club's prior record, specifically videotaping signals of opposing defensive coaches, as a "strong consideration" in determining the severity of the punishment. Vincent also said another important consideration was level of cooperation with the investigation and the league came down hard on two things -- the club not making Jim McNally available for an additional interview and Brady not producing any emails or text messages. The third factor cited by Vincent was the belief that equipment assistant John Jastremski and officials locker room attendant Jim McNally weren't fully candid. When the league first announced that it was conducting an investigation, the Patriots pledged full cooperation, but the league felt otherwise

Edit: so Troy Vincent's conclusions from the Wells report were:
1) balls were intentionally deflated illegally (Wells report does not conclude this)
2) it gave a competitive advantage (Wells report does not conclude this)
3) organization had to know about it hence the draft pick penalty (Wells report does not conclude this)
if the NFL was just gonna make shit up why bother spending millions on the report?
Your actions as set forth in the report clearly constitute conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the game of professional football.

There's no doubt, this decision has created an incredible web of shared liability for infractions going forward. Of course, they neutralize it nicely by tying in the Spygate precedent as a reason for severity, notwithstanding how many other infractions have been committed by how many other teams since then.

What shenanigans? Winning the Super Bowl four times? Beating evey team they played in one season? Fuck the rest of the league. If they are pissed at losing, they need to get better.
Highly unlikely. I'm sure there will be a couple of brain damaged Troy Aikman types on the Selection Committee that will refuse to vote for Brady because of this. But those votes will probably not be enough to keep him out, especially given the character of some of the folks that have been enshrined in Canton.Hank Scorpio said:Serious question, as I don't really know much about the NFL HoF - but could this keep Brady out in the same way it's keeping Bonds/Clemens/etc out?
I realize the question is going to piss people off thinking about it, but it's not our say if Brady is a HoFer.

Kraft's appeal options are limited. I think all he could do would be to go to Goodell and ask for reconsideration. I don't see him pressing the instant red button over this. But Goodell lost an ally, and don't be surprised if Kraft votes for Goodell's removal at some point in the distant future.H78 said:I'm worried Kraft knows something we don't know, hence his "we'll accept whatever punishment" line in his statement. Whatever really happened, I think he and BB know the truth of things better than Goodell. Doubt Brady would dissemble with them.I'm worried Kraft knows something we don't know, hence his "we'll accept whatever punishment" line in his statement. I don't think he does a thing outside of an appeal.
