It is mind-boggling how incompetent Hockey East officials are.

BC penalized for goalie interference when the BC player was cross-checked into the goalie.

Tonight Harvard and Yale will play each other the SIXTH time this season. This time for a semi-final slot in the ECAC.

Harvard lost the first 3 in the regular season, but won 3-2 Friday night. Yale won again yesterday 2-0.
And they go to OT!

Shitty weekend to be a Yalie.

Hey at least you have New Haven....

Yale had great seasons in football, basketball and hockey -- and each of them came to unceremonious ends at the hands of the Crimson.

Michigan leading Wisconsin 5-1 with just over 2 to play. The Larkin line has 4 of the goals. Larkin would be the best freshmen in America in most years. He may be the fourth best this year (Eichel, Hanafin, Werenski). May be the second best on his own team (Werenski). I'm so frustrated that this team is playing for its life in this tournament. Hopefully, we can win this god damn conference tournament.

I really hope we can keep Larkin and Werenski.

I think both stay. Red Wings like to take it slow with prospects (Larkin)*, and while Werenski has a high ceiling, he's nowhere near NHL-ready. Kid was 17 for a lot of the season and has to get bigger and stronger and refine his game

Incidentally, I think Larkin >> Werenski right now. Would love to keep them both of course.

The way Mich hockey has been of late, we will beat sparty tomorrow and lose in the finals after having 3 goals waved off.

*article on wings being "patient" with Larkin:

Interesting article from SB*Nation about consideration being given to Arizona State joining the B1G for hockey.

Of course, ASU just recently joined Div 1 ranks and is also being wooed by the NCHC and WCHA.

The challenge: who do they play?  As the article points out, ASU is 1,200 miles from the nearest school in the B1G, and 1,600 miles from the closest B1G hockey school.

The article subtly implies that $$ will play a big part, as the B1G will look to leverage opportunities to expand the BTN and B1G hockey further west.  And there is precedent of an outside school playing in the conference - Johns Hopkins in lacrosse.

All in all, an exciting proposition, even if it doesn't come to fruition.

Edit: The article also hints that Illinois, Maryland, and Nebraska are considering adding hockey programs.  What it doesn't say is if that includes both men's and women's hockey programs.  Adding any team on either side of the ledger has Title IX implications.

Yeah, at the same time, I'm not sure the NCHC or WCHA provide much closer playing options. The NCHC has teams in Ohio, Michigan, and Minnesota as well. The WCHA has teams in Alaska, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota. And both of those conferences have more remote location schools than the B1G. Yes, there are closer destinations like Colorado, but there is still an extensive amount of travel.

ASU is so far away from everyone that they're going to travel a lot regardless. They're basically going to be a Huntsville or Alaska team. Lots of time on the road. At the same time, I would love them in the B1G. The B1G might be the only conference that could afford to add them. I'm not sure other conference schools would like the added expense of traveling to Arizona. It would give the B1G a foothold in some of the non-traditional hockey markets both for the Network and in terms of attracting talent (whether they'll start showing the games more extensively...that's another story). Personally, I would love to do a weekend trip to ASU.

Brian at MGoBlog had some good stuff on Hockey Expansion for the B1G. It starts near the middle.

I knew the Badgers would be breaking in a really young team this season, but I'd completely lost track of what an awful season they've had. I'm having a hard time reconciling "Wisconsin" and "4-26-5" in the same sentence. It's unfathomably incongruous.

Hey, I am looking to stream the UVM-Lowell game (go UVM!). Out of New England so I don't have NESN. I've seen places saying that NBCSN is streaming it but I can't find a link.

Any ideas?

No idea. NBC Sports LiveExtra is streaming golf and other crap today, but no college hockey.

Scoreless battle halfway through the 1st before Kevin Irwin lit the lamp for UVM at 11:42. But the Hawks tied it just 36 seconds later on an A.J. White tally as the Cats were down two men -- Privitera & Bradley got hooking calls 9 seconds apart.

1-1 with 4:30 left in the period.

EDIT - Period over. Point blank save by Hoffman at the left post in the waning moments keeps it knotted. Shaw got called for kneeing with 1:23 left, and UML will start the 2nd with 37 seconds remaining on the power play.

UML leads 2-1 after two on a Michael Louria goal with 3:50 to play (originally credited to C.J. Smith). UVM will have 32 seconds remaining on a PP to start the 3rd. The shots on goal are 19 apiece

The RiverHawks are 76-3-5 in their last 84 games when leading after two periods.

Elsewhere...

* Harvard knocks off Quinnipiac 5-2. They'll get either Colgate or St. Lawrence for the ECAC title. QU falls to 15th in the PWR, which might allow UML to edge them out for the last at-large if Lowell (currently 17th, with Yale in between them) hangs on for the W.

* Minnesota up 2-0 over tOSU with 5:30 to play. Michigan-MSU coming up later.

EDIT - Make it 3-0 Gophers. 2:50 left. That should take care of one potential bracket buster.

* St. Cloud leads N. Dakota 2-1 heading to the 3rd. Winner gets Denver or Miami OH for the NCHC crown.

* Michigan Tech up on Bowling Green 2-1 after two. Both are safely in the field, as is Minnesota State which plays Ferris later.

* Mercyhurst & Robert Morris knotted 2-2 after two. Loser goes home. Winner awaits either Rensselaer or Canisuis for the AHC title game.

Bowling Green's Brent Tate ties it up early in the 3rd, but MTU takes a 4-2 lead on goals by Tyler Heinonen (his 2nd today) & Mike Neville. Under 12:00 left in that one.

EDIT - It's a 5-2 final as Joel L'Esperance polishes it off.

Wallin's 16th career goal (and 50th point) makes it 3-1 UM-Lowell with 11:14 left. Beautiful shot. Tons of great work behind the net to fine a hole through Hoffman.

EDIT - Bradley just hit the right post on a rush with Shaw for UVM. Wow.

UM-L makes it 4-1 with 1:10 left. End of the line for the Catamounts after a great late-season run.

Unless UNH pulls out back-to-back stunners, no northern New England schools (UVM, Maine, UNH) will be in the NCAA's for the first time in 30 years.

Robert Morris has outshot the Lakers 60 to 28. Brandon Wildung with a ridiculous 57 saves.

EDIT - Zac Frischmon wins it for Mercyhurst at the 3:04 mark. Wildung's final save count is 59.

Darcy Murphy gets Colgate on the board at 3:21, and they take that lead over St. Lawrence into the locker room after one period.

EDIT - Mike Marnell ties it up for SLU a minute into the second frame.

Also, UND's loss knocks the Sioux into 2nd place overall in the PWR behind Minnesota State.

* Michael Downing has Michigan up 1-0 with 15:30 to play in the 2nd. The Wolverines have peppered MSU's Jake Hildebrand with 30 shots already (the Spartans with only 10).

* Tyler Kelleher puts UNH up at 14:44 in the 1st, but BU's Cason Hohmann ties it at 17:38. And Tirone just made an epic pad save on Lane right in front of the Wildcats net on a Terrier power play just before the period ends.

Flipped to CBSSN just in time to see Anthony Louis score on a beautiful 3/4-ice rush up the left side, deking left and backhanding it past Evan Cowley's left pad to give Miami a 2-1 lead on Denver in the final minute of the 1st. Riley Barber got the Redhawks on the board first at 14:15, but Will Butcher tied it for the Pioneers at 17:27.

I think they're safe, but it depends on if there are any conference tournament upsets, and how many. Right now they're 11th in PWR. The AHC champ will get the 16th seed. If New Hampshire, Michigan/MSU, St. Lawrence & Ferris take the Hockey East, Big Ten, ECAC & WCHA autobids, that'll knock out the 15th, 14th & 13th & 12th-rated teams in the PWR. Since Harvard would likely drop a slot or two if they lost to SLU, they'd be out.

But that's really a worst-case scenario. The good news is most of the teams below them right now (BC, PC, QU, BGU) can't gain any ground on Harvard other than through schedule strength adjustments. However, a loss to Colgate (17th in PWR) in the final coupled with some of the aforementioned bracket busters would make things way too close for comfort.

BU ends the 2nd on a power play but can't convert. They keep their 2-1 lead, and they'll have 1:04 left with the extra man to start the 3rd. Terriers showing more aggression and keeping the puck on the UNH side of the center line, but the Wildcats are hanging.
