This has to be a first. The guy has a hat trick, and he's been ejected from the game for contact to the head. Could be an ENORMOUS development with 5:48 left in the 2nd...

Coleman with a hat trick and a 5 minute major & game misconduct. Wow. SCSU to 5 minute powerplay. This game will change one way or other.

Miami killed off the 5 minute penalty, holding St Cloud to one shot while getting a breakaway shot of their own. 3-2 after two.

Regardless of whether Miami or SCSU wins, the bottom 4 seeds will be Yale, QU, PC & RIT. My guesses on where they go:

13 Yale - vs Miami/Denver in Providence
14 Quinnipiac - vs BU in Manchester
15 Providence - vs N. Dakota in Fargo
16 RIT - vs Minnesota St in South Bend

Seeds on the 2- and 3-lines are going to be muddled, mainly because the NCHC will have 6 of its 8 teams in the field. While the committee will try to prevent head-to-head intraconference games in the first round, it may be unavoidable. But I'm thinking:

If Miami wins...

Denver vs BC in Providence
Minn-Duluth vs St. Cloud in Fargo
Michigan Tech vs Minnesota  in South Bend
Harvard vs NE-Omaha in Manchester

If St. Cloud wins...

Minn-Duluth vs BC in Providence
Miami vs Minnesota in South Bend
Michigan Tech vs NE-Omaha in Fargo
St. Cloud vs Harvard in Manchester

Penalty killed off. 1:35 left in the game, and Lindgren will leave the SCSU net for the extra skater.

Earlier on the PK, Riley Barber got tangled up and went into the boards hard, then limped off the ice slowly while yelling in pain. Looked like he took a shot to the kidney from the exposed dasher that protrudes from the base of the Plexiglas. Anyway, he's gone to the locker room. Could be a huge loss for the tournament for Miami, especially if Coleman gets suspended.

14.6 secs left, Faceoff left of the net...

And another jam up at the goal. Faceoff coming with 7.4 left.

SCSU can't hold it in the zone, and time expires. Miami wins the WCHA and a #1 NCAA seed.

Barber being carried onto the ice by teammates. Turns out it's his left knee, which is wrapped in ice. Not putting any weight on it.

Champs.

Barber with an ice pack on the knee. His loss would be huge regardless of what happens with Coleman.

Eh em...NCHC.

After making the tournament 22 straight years, Michigan has now missed the tournament 3 consecutive seasons.

BU to Providence, BC out west and Providence to Manchester?

As the 15th seed, Providence is almost certainly traveling out west to Fargo.

I'm betting they keep BC in Prov to face the top 5-seed (Denver).

Yale had great seasons in football, basketball and hockey -- and each of them came to unceremonious ends at the hands of the Crimson.
Not done in Hockey yet. Not quite sure how we rose so far in the pairwise after not even making the ECAC semis, but the last time Yale snuck into the tournament after an ECAC playoff debacle, we won the National Title as a 4 seed. Will history repeat?

Eh, probably not. This team's defense is capable of stopping anybody but our offense struggled too much. Glad to see at least one more game anyway. Hopefully in Providence instead of Fargo!

...missing by narrow margins too. Coaching is the issue. The talent is there.

Either Providence or Manchester. BU will most likely be in Manchester.

The PWR list I posted above didn't separate for ties, which are based on RPI. The revised seed order:

1 Minnesota State
2 North Dakota
3 Boston University
4 Miami
5 Denver
6 Minnesota-Duluth
7 Michigan Tech
8 Omaha
9 Harvard
10 Minnesota
11 Boston College
12 St. Cloud State
13 Yale
14 Quinnipiac
15 Providence
16 RIT

There's only one intraconference matchup based on straight seeds: 5 Denver vs 12 St. Cloud (both NCHC teams). The committee will probably swap St. Cloud with Minnesota to have the Huskies play Michigan Tech, which would send the Gophers east to face Denver (likely in Providence).

After that, I can see them going for attendance placement. Harvard would be in South Bend as part of the 1-8-9-16 bracket, so sending them back East (vs Denver in Providence) and moving Minnesota closer to home (vs NE-Omaha in South Bend) would be in keeping with precedent, even if the numerical seed matchups run askew.

If they make both those moves then BC will end up in Manchester as kenneycb notes. However, that would also penalize Denver (#5), the best of the 2nd-line seeds, by having them face the best of the 3rd-line seeds (#9 Harvard). So it wouldn't surprise me to see the Crimson in Manchester (vs #6 St. Cloud) while the Eagles get Denver in Providence. Either way, the Pioneers still end up on foreign soil facing a local team.

South Bend
1 Minnesota State vs 16 RIT
8 NE-Omaha vs 10 Minnesota

Providence
4 Miami OH vs 13 Yale
5 Denver vs 11 Boston College

Fargo
2 N. Dakota vs 15 Providence
7 Michigan Tech vs 12 St. Cloud

Manchester
3 BU vs 14 Quinnipiac
6 MN-Duluth vs 9 Harvard

Really surprised to see Providence playing at home. It's a 4-15 matchup vs Miami.

This means they're sending either Yale or Quinnipiac -- both rated above the Friars -- out West.

Isn't the deal if you're hosting you get that city?

If you're a top seed, yes.  Bottom seed though?  Not an automatic.

Not a great draw for the RedHawks.  Looks like we'll be down two stars and playing a road game (as opposed to neutral).

So Harvard is the second highest rated of the Eastern teams, but is one of two compelled to travel West. Awesome.

It's bullshit. They're rewarding Providence for no reason whatsoever, and any "we need the attendance" argument is horsecrap if BC's already there.

It penalizes the Crimson by making them travel. Ditto for Quinnipiac, which is rated higher than the Friars yet also has to face a tougher opponent in N. Dakota. It penalizes Miami by making them face a team playing in its back yard.

Just a moronic decision all the way around.

Agreed, Prov doesn't bring a crowd to Agganis/Conte/Matthews, they're the wrong team to bring for attendance. If you want attendance, NCAA, either choose lower prices or have the games in another city.

I would imagine BU and BC fans would be uncomfortable because they both would want to win so bad and the other to lose just as bad while being surrounded by fans of both teams/schools. Uncomfortable with each other. Not with me.

I can't tell you how many times over the past few weeks I've imagined the Terriers had McDavid committed as well, as he (however briefly) considered. Has any team, be it NCAA or Canadian junior hockey, had the #1 and #2 picks in the draft on their roster the season before the draft?
