So is Victorino going to the bench? DL? Are they going to put him on waivers and work out a trade with whomever claims him?

You'd never get a real answer to that question. And I gotta believe everyone knows he wouldn't play for that amount.

People can keep posting this, but by no means is there a consensus that Lackey would absolutely not have played for the $500K next year. I certainly don't know anything about what he would or wouldn't do, and wouldn't pretend that I do. I'll go on the assumption that he'd play under the contract he willingly signed until I hear otherwise from him or his agent.
Better not be trading for Harold Reynolds.redsox3g2 said:Ben On The Phone Now On Mlb network

Completely agree. I think people are treating it as a normal course of action--to me, sure he may do it, but he'd be burning some serious bridges considering it was a contract he willingly signed.Red(s)HawksFan said:

If Philly fires Ruben Amaro Jr. I wouldn't rule this out plus resigning Lester.E5 Yaz said:
Agreed, but the topper for me would have been a last-minute deal with Philly for Hamels.

"We were not looking for exorbitant paybacks," Amaro said. "We were looking for players that would help us. I think we were very reasonable in the discussions that we had. Frankly, I don't think the clubs were aggressive enough for the talent we have on our club."

Outside of Hamels, who had the talent/contract that would be worth being aggressive?

How many players have gone from making millions per year to playing for $550,000 the next? Especially #2 starters. Ok, we can switch out the word "know" but I have more faith in winning the lottery tomorrow than Lackey playing for that amount next year.
What about Corsi? He has been so busy starting threads here. He couldn't have slept much! :lol:DrewDawg said:
He said "lots of coffee...and other stuff".
Whatever he'd decide to do, not honoring the contract in this context isn't some "well, yeah" kind of inevitability/ matter-of-course. I don't think anyone in baseball would see it that way.koufax37 said:
How many players sign contracts with that provision, love to compete at the game of baseball, then after making $108M over their careers don't honor their contracts? Mike Trout played at $1.1M after a 10+ WAR season. This isn't the NFL. I know the contract was unusual, but he got paid a lot of money to play horribly and then rehab from surgery instead of pitching competently, and I wouldn't expect him to do anything other than honor it unless I heard specifics otherwise.
And now he has told the Cardinals he will honor it, which seems like a non- news story, but at least is out there.
