Couldnt they have at least polished the championship trophy to remove finger prints?

They could be worse. I kind of like some of the sleeved uniforms if they are done right (like GS minus those shorts and Phoenix). I personally think the Celtics should have just a gold uniform that instead of saying "Celtics" across the front, it should say  "17 Time World Champs". Ever since they added the little gold tassle to the jersies I think it is dumb for the Celtics to have one, and the Wizards have one as well. It should be rubbed in everyones face that we have 17 championships and nobody else does.

The gold tassles say 17x on them.

You wouldn't be able to know unless you were standing within 5 feet behind them though. It should eb front and center for all to see :D

Hate it.  Hell, the black outline around the numbers they added last year or two drives me nuts enough.

If you can't win, then lose in style.  The uniforms would be OK for a newly minted franchise.  For one with a great history, it seems like a magician's sleight of hand to keep our eye off of the terrible performance on the court.

Alternate uniforms are a marketing thing. They are meant to drive apparel sales. They're especially a good idea for a team whose principal non-white color (kelly green) has limited mass appeal. So I won't complain about them wearing alternates a few times a year -- done correctly, it's a way for them to make a little extra money without detracting from the fan experience.

The problem here is the execution -- they look like standard, gray underwear. Who's going to buy that?

For me, it's not that they are inconsistent with the Celts' great history.  Anything that deviates from the simple unis the Cs have had is inconsistent with their history (albeit not their recent history, given the many variations we have seen).

And I either sort of liked or was indifferent to several of their iterations.  The least objectionable in my book were the dark green ones (although not with the red, white and blue in the Boston, which I just noticed).

The problem with this new one is not that it's a deviation from tradition or a chance to make money.  It's that it's perhaps the ugliest thing I've ever seen this side of the Steelers' alternative uni.

Mercy.

I'm not inherently against sleeves, and I like parts of that, but..yeah, that's pretty bad. I like the shoulder stripes, it breaks up the sleeves in a way most of them don't, but that weird gray color kills it.

Gray is the new black in jerseys--and it's all adidas.

Louisville's football team wore them against FSU:

UCLA did too:

That particular gray in an indoor sport where nobody gets dirty is weirder to me than gray in football.

(The Suns' old unis looked sharp with it, though.)

Green is hard to work with. One of the things Oregon has done right has been to take liberties with the shade of green. Colors like neon green or jungle camo open up a lot of possibilities you don't have if you're wedded to kelly green. Not that I'd buy the resulting product, but I'm pretty sure I'm not part of the target demographic.

Those were the Italian jerseys that the Celts wore a few years ago when they went to Italy. The lettering is not red, white and blue it's green, white and red; you know for Italy.
