By the way, I suspect the call-ups of Wilson and Betts are just placeholders for tonight. Kelly & Cespedes are in Boston but haven't been activated yet (Craig's on the 25-man), so Alex & Mookie are probably being optioned right back down tomorrow.

Layne, however, is likely up for awhile as Miller's LHRP replacement.

He's no Mike Trout. Heck, he's no Tim Salmon.

Hell, he can't even carry Cole Sturgeon's net strap.

I'm a sucker for these fish puns.
Hope another team snags him, I'd hate to see him get skunked.

Maybe the Pirates will catch him, as his presence on the waiver wire is a freshly-baited hook, but I suspect he's destined to be chum.

Just when I thought we had limited out on puns! You're probably right but you never know when you might get a nibble. Hopefully Ben is still keeping an eye on his bobber.

It's 3AM.  I bet Ben is up right now, working the phones all night just like on deadline day trying to find the perfect C+ Rookie League RP to get for Carp...

Bet Ben got his line wet tonight, one way or the other.

RT @BNightengale: Now that the #Royals will be without 1B Eric Hosmer for up to six weeks, Mike Carp, who was DFA'd by the #Redsox, is a natural replacement.

Carp's really navigated these choppy waves swimmingly, so he needs no en-dorsal-ment. He might not be the most fleet, but all those clutch hits that made us yell "Holy Mackerel!" were no fluke.

Seattle is still playing with a porpoise, so maybe the Mariners bring him aboard their boat and give him an oppor-tuna-ty. The Marlins are also staying above water, so Miami's another safe harbor.

I'm really hoping he catches on with the Marlins.  He can take some of their younger players to school down there.

This would work out for him as I hear that he might also be a Dolphins fan, despite they not even being in his class.

Is this a pun thread or a "Thank you Carp" thread?  I've looked at this from every angle, and I'm still not sure what I sea.

Sounds like a straight claim, rather than the Sox getting anything back.

Don't have a link handy, but I heard from a trustable source that he's the first player ever traded for bellybutton lint.

Cash considerations, about $8.99 a pound.

Unfortunately Ben subcontracted the wholesaling to the folks at No Name.

If Neptune Oyster had handled it, they could have foisted him upon unsuspecting tourists for about $5/lb more.

Looking forward to someone posting whatever tiny classified ad Carp runs in the Globe to thank everyone.

Just a straight block claim? Wonder what use they would have for him?
Seeing if he's any use for next season, I figure.

Well, I mean, they've been playing J.P. Arencibia as their everyday first baseman, so Carp should be able to hook on with them.
