Lackey*, Doubront, Carp...cleaning out guys who may bring some negative attitude or who want to be somewhere else. I'm sure the FO wants the best possible clubhouse as the young guys get their innings in down the stretch

*I'm jumping to a conclusion a bit on Lackey based on his rumored desire for a new contract and Farrell's comment that he was more valuable to a winning club.

Nava is better at everything Carp does and with the new guys, Nava needs a spot.

Sorry, that was sarcasm and a throwback to someone's crappy post yesterday.

Royals lost Eric Hosmer for a while with a fractured hand. Carp could hook on with them as a cheap LH bat

I liked the Carp pickup last year and he was damn good for us as a part-timer. I was hoping that he would be a long term part-time bat for us, but he flat-out wasn't doing the job for us this year. His power has utterly disappeared.

I don't have the heart to even look at how many pitchers are slugging higher than him this year, but I know it's several.

Another one of the (latest) 25 bites the dust. Farewell, Mike Crap! Thanks for helping us to that World Championship!

Presumably he was available yesterday and there were no takers at any price.

In the end he wasn't a keeper, but overall I think he was a net positive. Sometimes you have to decide whether to fish or cut bait, and it's smart to remember that there are other fish in the sea.

Reached out to Bernie & Phyl's on Twitter for reaction to the Carp DFA.

Edit:  It sucks how much of a jerk he became this year.  That being said, he was damn good last year.  We'll always have this little moment:

Thanks for everything, Carp. Here's a piece of bread for you to take with you as you leave.

This seemed inevitable. You can only watch him flounder at the plate for so long before taking some type of action

The jerk angle seems overblown.

He asked the team for a trade because he wasn't getting a lot of playing time and realized "crap, I'm old and may be running out of chances to establish myself as even a platoon guy." He supposedly did it in a non-jerk fashion as well.

It also probably doesn't help that he's gotten exactly 100 ABs, has improved his walk rate and has been CRUSHED by BABIP luck (.243 with a 19% LD%).

Yes, he's a guy struggling with the stick this year asking off a team. But I feel he's taken a lot of unnecessary crap from fans.

I love you SoSH, but wouldn't the verbal form of the word carp have been more appropriate, given the circumstances?

He actually just turned 28 in June. I always thought he looked older.

I agree that while there was plenty of reason to toss him overboard, there is no reason to carve him up on his way over the side. Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, we'll have '13 till the day that we die, and Carp was a small part of it. Farewell!

I just meant he's past the ML peak.

If you haven't established yourself as an ML-talent starter by like 26-27, things get immensely more difficult going forward. Especially if you are an "eh"-field, mostly bat, 1B-COF like Carp is.

I agree with the move; not much more use for Carp on this team.  And it will serve him better in the long run if he's able to catch one with another team.  And I don't recall any stories about him being a problem.

Last season was helped by a pretty high BABIP just as much as this season is hurt by it.  Utility players have smaller samples for BABIP to normalize over a season, so variation is not unusual.  Carp was hardly the problem this season; it's just unfortunate his down year coincided with nearly everyone else's down year.

La Mancha.
The timing seems fishy to me but I guess that boat has sailed and he was a fish out of water at the plate and his last name is also that of a fish.

Seemed like one of those players whose part-time power wouldn't scale to a full-time job, no matter how much he was angling for one. Good on Ben to catch him for a good season, and release him when it was time. Little surprised they couldn't lure at least one team into sending over a bag of balls.

Yeah, it must suck not to have won the World Series since 2012.

He's no Mike Trout. Heck, he's no Tim Salmon.
