Royals need a double play. Vargas looks like he's working really hard to maintain composure. If he gets in a jam I'm concerned him might lose it.
I'm all in favor of having 5 PR's up on the fan choice vote and having that guy score the winning run to give the Red Sox HFA. Especially if it's Dyson or Gore.Norm Siebern said:We live in a world where Ned Yost is but a few short innings away from managing the 2015 American League All Star team.
Marinate on that thought for a while.
To be fair, Vargas turns into a truly awful pitcher as he gets deeper into games. Cameron has the numbers in the link article. Maybe you don't use Shields but letting Vargas go through a 3rd turn is a mistake.Remagellan said:
True but you're pinning everything on this game. It smacks of Mauch shortening his rotation in 64. If you're the team in the lead, one of the ways to blow a big lead is to go into crisis mode while you are still in front.

If the Royals somehow become the first team to run the table in the playoffs my head might explodeuilnslcoap said:12 outs to get, but just a one-run cushion. Come on, Royals, let's tie that Red Sox/White Sox most-consecutive-wins-in-a-single-postseason record! (I think it's 8 by the 2004 Red Sox and 2005 White Sox, anyway.)

The rain out also screwed up the schedule, though I think this game would have been at 4 regardless.Remagellan said:
The NL play later. They would rather run games from 4 to midnight than 8 pm to 3 in the morning.
