This drives me crazy. Why not give Bernardino more of a chance? This kind of managing drives me NUTS!
Huh? The plan was to get him through the lefties. He was always an opener. This isn't about the hit he just let up.

Edit: He goes back to the bullpen after today, and pitching him more makes it that much longer before he can help the team again. He did his job.

I guess y'all don't hate Ort as much as I do. Edit: if Loomer's right and it's only a bridge to Murphy, I'm okay with it.
EDit #2: see what I mean about Ort?

Holy shit. Got out of bed at the pitching change, turned on the TV and it's 3-1. ORT'ed.

What is Cora doing even using a righty against a lineup that demolishes them? Third best wRC+ in the league against righties and yet here's the worst one in the bullpen for some reason.

And that's why the Rays won't win a World Series relying on the opener. It only takes one guy out of the 5 or 6 who pitch to lose the game.

Lucky for them, one of those guys won't be Ort.

People fully blaming Cora on what was clearly the gameplan decided before the game, lol.

Maybe Bernadino can't go that much longer. I do think the front office is forcing Ort in there.

That was the plan going in. Ort was going to pitch to the bottom part of the order. Ort failed here, not Cora. And it was probably driven by the front office.

And I am not a Cora apologist when it comes to bullpen usage.

Well of course Bernardino wasn't going to pitch more than an inning, it's the choice of a bad righty in Ort over Murphy or Walter that's confounding, be it Cora's decision or the FO's. Weird bad planning.

It was clearly the whole plan. LHP Bernardino for the top half of the lineup, mostly lefties. ShitHP Ort for the bottom half, mostly RHB/switch. Back to the LHP Murphy for the top.

Casas is so lost and useless against fastballs that it makes me wonder what every evaluator was seeing with him. A thigh-high sinker inside and he watches it go by like Dunning just invented it.

The problem is that the Red Sox don't want to bring up their actual good relievers because of the 40-man roster crunch & all the guys on the 60 day DL so we just get a bunch of fungible guys like Ort/Garza/Jacques/Scott/Kluber who if we kick off the 40, no one cares if they leave. Same with Caleb Hamilton.

It's fine long term planning & I think will make for a really good bullpen in '24... but it makes this season kind of frustrating.

Ort should have been dumped in the off-season, yet here it is on the 4th of July and he is still here giving up home run after home run and costing us games.

This is a really good point.
