The Sox have broken Whitlock. A lights-out reliever is now a questionable starter. So sad.
I understand hoping he would be a starter because a number 3 starter is worth more than a lights out guy in the 6-8 innings. Whitlock couldn’t pitch back to back days as a reliever, so making him a starter made sense. Too bad he can’t stay healthy or consistent.

It seems like the Red Sox fail at the reliever to starter thing over the years with some quality arms. Paps, Bard, now Whitlock. Rinse and repeat every 5-10 years when they find a bullpen ace.

So they decided to make Whitlock a reliever and this is just a bullpen start?

Not able to watch the game, any news on what actually happened?

Well, they’ve had trouble developing starters in general. ERod and now Bello are the only guys since Buchholz and Lester, right? And ERod was traded for.

Wiscansin, by way of Attleboro
It's tiresome when Flemming goes on with his hangdog diatribes with the injuries the Sox have had, as if no other team has had to deal with a rash of injuries. I get it, the Sox have had dealt with a lot, but his lamentations are exceedingly irksome today.

Given that Whitlock has already had Tommy John on that elbow, I think you can probably hope for is a flexor strain, which would put him on the I L for at least 10 days then you’re talking about a rehab stint… I think I just officially punt it on the season in terms of expecting anything good to come out of it. If he’s out for any length of time, I certainly hope they move Paxson at the deadline, because this season isn’t happening.

Sad but true.
