Okay. Let’s beat the Rockies. The Rockies are not good. The Sox are also not good. But the Sox are slightly better than the Rox. Thus, we should win today.

This probably the optimal defensive lineup, right? Maybe Kiké in center if I'm splitting hairs.

Oops.

Yeah this has to be near the optimal defensive lineup. Probably someone else in LF besides Yoshida if you wanted a full on defensive lineup. And Wong at C.

How ironic that our optimal defensive lineup includes our DH ( who at 38 years old has started just 25 games at the position previous to this season) at 1B and our first baseman at DH.

Hmm. Yes, irony. Cora finally noticed that Turner plays a much much much better 1B than Casas. Now, can Casas hit better not having to worry about playing a position? One can only hope so.

Chase this Chase guy early. Whaddaya say?

A little disappointed not seeing Duran in there (LHH vs. RHP) especially since he's started to hit again. In center, he's got the speed to make up for the occasional bad read on the ball, just run the ball down.

Tonight's lineup looks like to will be the one we see most of the time going forward.

Chris Cotillo
@ChrisCotillo

Red Sox are moving Kiké Hernández off the starting shortstop role.
He’ll be more of a utility guy moving forward. Justin Turner will play more 1B over Casas.
Until, of course, someone else gets hurt.
In the meantime, they were mentioning on the broadcast last night that Story could be back as a DH sooner than he could play in the field. This Turner/Casas move might have something to do with that

EDIT
peteabe: "Cora says Casas needs to be better at 1B. “When he came up last year, we thought he was going to be a great defender…We’ll keep working with him.”

So, is this saying to hell with the future (Duran and Casas)? Or is it that they think they can better make the playoffs with Turner and Hooch, I mean Duvall? I'd rather see if the kids could develop but they didn't ask me.

Needs to get better by playing DH in a season they aren't going anywhere. Dumb decision.
They're displaying the same approach that led to last season's trade deadline. It's like a remake of Groundhog Day starring Wile E. Coyote.

Casas can wok on D outside of games. I have no problem with this, it won't hurt his development. It doesn't have to permanent.

Cora seems frustrated, mainly with the construction of the roster. It sounded more like he was defending his decisions by saying his options are limited. “The roster is the roster”. Even though it’s true, saying he doesn’t see Pablo Reyes as an everyday player either wasn’t much of a vote of confidence for your new SS.

I don't think the 29 yo AAA SS with a career .664 OPS for the worst team in MLB is allowed to take offense.

Fake edit: Jeez, that's a lot of acronyms!

Game 68
We got 3 quick hits to open the first.
None scored, then in extras, things were reversed.
They scored 2 with no hits, then the sky burst
open on Fenway and fans were coerced
to walk away wet or wait for the worst.
Our starting pitching (like vintage Bruce Hurst)
has been terrific, but this team’s emersed
in a slump of poor play that’s interspersed
with dumb decisions. Perhaps it’s just cursed.
Will tonight’s game bring pains that can’t be nursed?
Will it make us scream like we are Fred Durst?
Will our brows be furrowed, and our lips pursed?
Or will it bring water to quench our thirst?

it sounds like Hernandez will still show up as the late-inning SS after Cora goes to a PH for Reyes.

FWIW, I thought the more restrained version of Millar {3rd seat rather than 2nd seat in the booth} we got last night was fine. I don't want it every night for sure, though.

Why should he any different than anyone else?
Nicely done.

Youk OB =mute
Merloni OB =mute
Middlebrooks OB= listen
Millar with anyone=mute

I have been trying linking WEEI with MLBtv.. Pretty good except Fleming is as bad as all those guys.
Castig is fine but have to mute when Fleming is doing play by play.
Fleming a poor imitation of Dennis Miller calling NFL games which is really rough.
