Sadly, I had to take a work phone call during that game, the horror...but does the statcast have it right? Djokovic DFed 3x?!
Seems to me the chances of the next two sets being a kind of ho-hum 4&3 type affair for Djokovic are pretty high. DF threw a lot at him...had a break advantage 2x, an early mini break in the tiebreaker, and still went down.
Unbelievable set, Djokovic takes it in a tiebreak on an incredible return of serve. It is truly amazing that a 36 year old can beat a 23 year old (ranked #29) in a set like that with so many haymakers thrown, has to be dispiriting for DF.
crowd this year just turning on all the players...Fritz, Novak...not having Rafa there to calm them down
I only just found out about the Taylor Fritz thing. I didn't see it, but having read this, now I kinda wish I had.
Andreeva gets an early break and goes up 3-1 on Gauff. I won’t be able to watch this whole match but this is my first time seeing Andreeva and she is quite impressive

Down to the round of 16, I don’t see many compelling matches this round, which is at least partly my ignorance.

Quite a back and forth end of match going between Rune & Cerundolo. Rune was serving at 3-4, 0-40 in the 5th...wins 5 straight points (off a couple horrific FH errors from Cerundolo), immediately breaks to go up 5-4...but now Cerundolo has won two games in a row. Rune will serve at 5-6 to try and stay in it.

After getting broken (during a game that featured a debatable non-call on Khachanov hindrance), Novak rattled off eight straight points to win the match. Awaits the winner of Alcaraz/Tsitsipas.
The only thing running through my head most of that first set between Alcaraz and Tsitsipas

This Scandinavian battle is all Ruud so far, up an easy set and break at 6-1, 3-1. I have no idea why but I struggle rooting for Rune quite a bit...
I have trouble caring about either, I got bored in the middle of that match. The Alcaraz/Djokovic semi sure seems like a de facto final, no surprise.
Coco hung tough with Swiatek up until 4-4, then crushed from there, 6-4, 6-2.
Nice final 4 although the Djokovic/Alcaraz match feels like the real final.
