Rublev was in Djokovic’s quarter so that helps him a bit.

Seems to me the chances of the next two sets being a kind of ho-hum 4&3 type affair for Djokovic are pretty high. DF threw a lot at him...had a break advantage 2x, an early mini break in the tiebreaker, and still went down.

Unbelievable set, Djokovic takes it in a tiebreak on an incredible return of serve. It is truly amazing that a 36 year old can beat a 23 year old (ranked #29) in a set like that with so many haymakers thrown, has to be dispiriting for DF.

Heh we basically said the same thing, has to be hard for DF to play like that and still lose the set.

Both guys have already broken 4 times (in 9 games), 3-3 in the second now.

Unbelievable see-saw set, Novak up 4-1, DF wins the next 4, Novak with the last 3.

2:48 through 2 sets.

Alcaraz won the first five games fron Shapovalov, then Shap figured something out and has won 5 of the last 7. 6-1, 1-4 currently, one break up.

And just like that, Alcaraz pulls it back on serve, 4-3 Shap now.

#13 Hurkacz out, that would have been Djokovic's next match, so a good day for him, not a super hard road to get to the semis and presumably Alcaraz now.

Andreeva gets an early break and goes up 3-1 on Gauff. I won’t be able to watch this whole match but this is my first time seeing Andreeva and she is quite impressive

Rybakina dropped out today, not much standing between a Swiatek/Sabalenka final, much as I love Coco.

Why all the empty seats? Did the scalper bots buy all the tickets and over charge on the re-sale?
The player hallway is pretty sick with the light show.

Tiafoe looking good against Zverev so far, up 6-3, 3-2 (on serve). I got Peacock recently to watch a Yankee game, happy I have it today.

Down to the round of 16, I don’t see many compelling matches this round, which is at least partly my ignorance.

Men’s, looking forward to Alcaraz/Musetti, and always Djokovic.

Women, Sabalenka/Sloane Stephens, and always Gauff.

That’s it that I see.

Coco through to the quarters, presumably another shot at Swiatek who she has never beaten, 0-6 career.

Quite a back and forth end of match going between Rune & Cerundolo. Rune was serving at 3-4, 0-40 in the 5th...wins 5 straight points (off a couple horrific FH errors from Cerundolo), immediately breaks to go up 5-4...but now Cerundolo has won two games in a row. Rune will serve at 5-6 to try and stay in it.

edit: Rune holds at love, breaker time

Haven't seen all of this Djokovic match, but he is making too many key mistakes, down a set and on serve in the second.

Novak hasn't even managed to get a break point in the first two sets, let alone a break. Nevertheless, he served well the entire second set and just played a gorgeous tiebreak, winning it 7-0. One set all...

Djokovic has played five tiebreaks in this tournament, zero unforced errors in all of them. That's impressive.

The mucky muck
After getting broken (during a game that featured a debatable non-call on Khachanov hindrance), Novak rattled off eight straight points to win the match. Awaits the winner of Alcaraz/Tsitsipas.

Yeah, he really kicked it up starting with the second set tiebreak, his winners/unforced errors in the third set were 19 to 1 (!!!).

Alcaraz/Tsitsipas starts around 2:30 EST, hopefully Tsitsipas can push him some.

This Scandinavian battle is all Ruud so far, up an easy set and break at 6-1, 3-1. I have no idea why but I struggle rooting for Rune quite a bit...
I have trouble caring about either, I got bored in the middle of that match. The Alcaraz/Djokovic semi sure seems like a de facto final, no surprise.

Coco hung tough with Swiatek up until 4-4, then crushed from there, 6-4, 6-2.

Yeah. Disappointing match. Alcaraz basically gave up the third set to conserve and try get his legs back. Moving better in the fourth but not near 100%.
