Underrated loss. He has been a solid player.

Reiss: The initial diagnosis on DT Daniel Ekuale is a torn biceps, according to a source. Still awaiting more tests to confirm but the Patriots are bracing for the loss of their sub-rushing veteran who has shown a knack for creating interior disruption.

So Judon done.

If Gonzo is done now the Krafts need to start planning for 2024. Actually, they need to start doing that anyways.

That sucks for Judon, and I know first hand that it's a frustrating and slow-healing injury. I'm not a world-class athlete with medical and rehab care he has access to, but when I blew mine it was 2.5 months before I was released from physical therapy and almost 5 months before I was finally cleared to resume normal weight lifting.

This sucks. With Gonzo, Judon, and Jones’ all hurt, this team is screwed. Really awful injury luck. And with the offense being so boring, there just aren’t many compelling reasons to watch this team anymore, sadly.

Yeah it’s hard to see a way forward for a defense-first team that now has lost its best three defenders. Maybe Jon and Jack return and play at a high level (totally possible, btw), and someone steps up to replace Judon. But man… brutal.

Yeah, there are a lot of ways this defense can remain functional if Jack and Jonathan Jones are back soon. Hope they give Keion White an extended look as well, maybe something good can come out of this.

Looking at the list as of what we know today:

Tyquan Thornton: Eligible to come off IR any time now. Actual status unclear and likely to remain so until he's spotted at practice.

Jack Jones: Ditto.

Marcus Jones: Varying reports of severity ranging anywhere from 4-6 weeks to season ending.

Jonathan Jones: Did participate in practice last week, so unless he aggravated something should be back soon.

Daniel Ekuale: Out for season

Cole Strange: Obviously trying to play through the knee injury that has lingered since he hurt his knee first week of training camp. Definitely concerning.

Matt Judon: Appears to be out for season; expect official roster move today.

Christian Gonzalez: TBD

Damn losing Gonzalez Ekuale and Judon had me flashing back to Veris, Lippet and Tippett…really rough times and hoping at least for good news on Gonzalez.

Silver lining here… ticket prices should start going down…

Jack Jones coming back this week should be a huge help if he can play at a level similar to last year. I hope the Patriots are cautious with Gonzalez and don’t rush him back. He’s looked really good.

Who is next in line with Judon out? Do his snaps go to Jennings? Can Deion White take some, or is he going to stay at DE?

On the bright side, Mac should look better in practice with half of the starting D injured.

#Patriots DE Matthew Judon is expected to miss at least two months because of his biceps injury, per source. Judon will have surgery Wednesday and they'll know more afterward about whether he can return this season.
So he's out two months/until December................unless they are in the hunt for a playoff spot (insert your laugh track here), what's the point?

2 months is also a very aggressive timeline.

Given where this team is likely to in the standings in December, he is probably out for the year.

Thornton and Jack Jones not practicing BLOWS. The young, dynamic playmakers we need to see more of...and we have to wait. But hey, Riley "lost his RT spot pre-injury" Reiff is back, along with a S/Ter and a guy I love but who could keep Keion White off the field more than I'd like. Just play the kids as much as possible at this point.

Was wondering why they didn't bring McDermott back sooner, he seemed perfectly cromulent last year.
They did, he got hurt so they cut him, he was on season ending IR, so I assumed his injury was significant enough he had no shot of playing

Yeah, I knew he was cut with a settlement in camp. I wasn’t sure if they were required to wait a certain amount of time before bringing him back. But I guess it could just be he wasn’t healthy enough.

I found this:

*In the past, teams weren't able to re-sign waived/injured players until the injury settlement time period plus six additional weeks passed. But a new rule instituted this preseason has reduced the waiting period to the injury settlement time period plus three additional weeks before a team can re-sign a played that was waived/injured.

For those wondering what the injury settlement time period is, it's determined by the player and the team as part of the settlement process:

Injury settlements
The next phase for a player who is not claimed after being Waived/Injured, they have five days to reach an injury settlement with the team. Injury settlement keeps the player from going on IR for the rest of the season. If a player and the team come to an injury settlement, a player is released and compensated for the amount of time agreed upon by both parties in which the injury would keep the player from being able to perform their NFL duties. The player is then free to sign with any team at that point but may not sign back with the original team until the length of the injury settlement has concluded as well as an additional three weeks.

The typical structure of an injury settlement would be to pay the player the portion of their base salary they would be paid weekly times the number of weeks agreed upon for the injury. For example, if the two parties decide the injury would take six weeks to recover, a player would be paid 6/18ths of their base salary.

If the two parties do not agree on an injury settlement, then the player goes on IR for the remainder of the season. In either case, the amount of salary paid to the player either from an injury settlement or from being on IR counts against the team’s salary cap for that season.
Source, a useful Steelers fan page.

So presumably, prior to week 1, the Pats settled with McDermott for a 3 week injury settlement, paying him 3/18 of his salary ($300K, based on SpotTrac's citation of a $1.8M base salary for this season) rather than outright releasing him. They likely then shook hands and said, "Please don't sign with anyone else, and we'll bring you back to the PS in 6 weeks minimum." He signed back for the league minimum (just under $290K).

That said, even prior to his injury, he looked pretty bad in preseason, though nowhere near as bad as Lowe has looked in season, so hopefully, he can be added back to the main roster, though at whose expense (Reiff? JJSS?), we'll see.

Confirmed torn ACL for Bourne
#Patriots WR Kendrick Bourne tore his ACL, source says. Frustrating end to a promising season for the veteran receiver.

Crap, one of the few people that can actually get open. Time to get the young receivers a bunch of snaps the rest of the way and focus on next year's draft.

Were they playing on Turf?

The amount of non contact injuries is crazy - it. didn't seem like he got twisted on a tackle, did he?

Tuukka's refugee camp
His knee got trapped under the DB as he was getting tackled out of bounds. It was 100% a contact injury. Miami also looks to have grass.
