There's a fairly huge opening right now for the title of "Best Player in the NBA ... who doesn't annoy me with his pretty-boy looks, obnoxious on-court preening, and gross mouthpiece-chewing."

It's the Joker's for the taking!

Butler participated in shootaround today and said he’s good to go. Miami has still not made an announcement so they could decide to sit him out.

if I’m the Heat and he can go I’m certainly not punting a game by sitting him in a 7-game series. He’s right there with Curry and Jokic imo on importance to their team in the playoffs.
Miami decided to sit him out.

I kind of like it as an FU game, as well. Expectation is that Embiid will be announced and while I have no particular argument against that (it's about the regular season, blah blah) there was a good bit of dissing of Jokic going on, too. Good on him for reminding the world of just how worthy he is (while Embiid is injured).
And while Embiid's team wins without him. No way Denver wins without Jokic.

Yes this is what I expected after seeing him be unable to move even with the adrenaline flowing after the injury in G1. This should really affect certain role players who rely on Butler getting them catch and shoots in rhythm.

Game 3 isn't until Saturday, this gives him almost a week off. No-brainer.
Yeah I doubt he could really go hard anyway. That looks like something that could affect him rest of the series. More drama. Love these playoffs!

Here
Losing to the Heat without Butler at home with that Heat starting lineup would really put the Celtics to shame.

I hope the Celtics players are paying attention to the passion Miami has in defending tonight.

Of the top 8 that the Heat are playing tonight, I believe only 3 of them (Bam Adebayo, Kevin Love and Kyle Lowry) were even drafted?

This game is already a rock fight and we haven't reached the half. This one may look like the Battle of the Bulge by the end.

I have a really bad feeling that we are in for a repeat of last years Finals and the result will be the same….

I am no Laker fan but I am rooting for them to beat the Warriors (I think the Celtics would trounce the Lakers)
This is how I feel also. I live in San Francisco. I got their parade confetti on my balcony. I really would prefer any outcome other than watching another Warriors' parade, especially if it includes beating the Celtics again.

Jimmy-less, Herro-less Heat up 3 at the half at MSG in a game the Knicks absolutely have to have. There has been an impressive amount of cheesedicking in these playoffs to date.

Also: Cavs fans can’t be enjoying watching Kevin Love in these two games.

Nope. LAL disdain is JUST AS DEEP as MFY disdain.

I get that in the Bay (where my 2 brothers live), the annoyances of GSW fans are strong . But it is not enough to overcome 60 years of history

And I get that. I really do not the Lakers either. I would have said Lakers were my least favorite choice, but now they are second to the Dubs (but I realize that is only because where I live). Also, I really do not think the Lakers have a chance to win the title; the Warriors do have a pretty good chance.

Edit - I checked the AL East standing this morning. It felt pretty good.

LAL v GSW isn't hard even though I agree with my neighbor that the Dubs & their fans are annoying.

LA needs to lose as quickly and humiliatingly as possible. I don't want any more Dubs Finals but we can worry about it next round. The Lakers gotta go yesterday.

Yeah I dislike the warriors as much as any self-respecting bay area resident that roots for literally any other team, but I've had more than enough of the Lakers this year. I don't know if anything is more irritating than announcers acting like Rob Pelinka is a genius for pulling himself out of a mess entirely of his own making. Time for them to go home.

Jeez now Strus is going to the locker room. How many points will the Heat score over the next 16 minutes? 20?

For all the talk about Miami’s depleted depth, the Knicks bench has done nothing
Indeed. Miami has the injury excuse, but the Knicks have a 6th man of the year finalist in Quickley and Toppin, who is either an all-star (if he starts) or a 9th man (coming off the bench).

I’m mostly rooting for this series to go seven games with hopefully a couple of OT games mixed in so that both teams get ground down to dust for the next round.
