Oh man, why did they have to put Corey Perry on Chicago? It's like they wanted to make it immediately impossible to want to root for Bedard.

The Chicago roster is dreadful
Based on the first 9 minutes, Bedard looks like he has a special future, but yeah, this roster is atrocious.

It sucks because there is just no way for them to protect him and get him minutes against lower lines. He's going to be facing top line defenses on almost all of his shifts.

Been a wild game. Habs had a goal that would’ve put them up 3-0 disallowed for offside. Leafs score 3 in a row to go up 3-2, but Montreal just took a 4-3 lead with 14 minutes left.

MTL went up 5-3, Leafs pulled the goalie with 4:45 left and tied it with a little more than a minute left.

Good grief. Matthews with another hat trick tonight. 6 goals in 2 games. Somebody should have explained to him that you are supposed to do this BEFORE a contract extension, not immediately after.

Tampa lost 6-4 to Detroit and 5-2 to Ottawa this weekend. Last night they played Matt Tomkins in net, a 29-year old journeyman AHL/ECHL/Euro league player. Their "starter" at the moment is Jonas Johansson, 28 years old, who has all of 37 NHL starts across 5 NHL seasons. Vasilevsky is out until ~Thanksgiving. I don't think Tampa is very good to begin with but they might have the nail driven in the coffin early with the goaltending they're running out on a nightly basis.

Also, let's all mock the ridiculous NHL scheuling for tonight:

7:00 Chicago @ Toronto
7:00 Florida @ New Jersey
7:00 Arizona @ New York Rangers
7:00 Calgary @ Washington
7:00 Detroit @ Columbus

5 games, all starting at the same time. Good job, good effort.

The mucky muck
Not sure if the Yzerplan is starting to come together or what, but as a Wings fan, this is the most fun team to watch of theirs in quite a few years. Not quite sold on them being a playoff team, but they're going to be a pain in the neck to play against this year.

Do any of those games have enough national appeal to compete with MNF? I don't think they do, so I personally don't have a problem with leaving them all at the usual 7 PM start time...

Was hoping for a bit more competition from the Heritage Classic, but EDM looks to have CGY well in hand so far.

Puck Soup mentioned an insane stat in their most recent episode - Ovechkin's most recent power play goal - the 300th of his career - was also the 3,000th PPG goal in the history of the Capitals.

Dude has scored 10% of his FRANCHISE'S power play goals. Criminy.

Sharks down 10-0 in the 3rd...

Wait now 10-1. At least they are keeping up their goal-a-game average going.

There's tanking and there's giving up 10 goals, which is like a once a season occurrence in the NHL usually, in back to back games at home.

Down 10-2 in the 3rd tonight vs the Pens, the #SJSharks are the 1st NHL team to allow 20 goals over a span of 2 games since... the Sharks (Feb 3-10, 1993). They're also the 4th team in NHL history with consecutive 10+ GA games but the 1st to do so with both efforts coming at home

Moving the Line
The 2023-24 Sharks are the fourth team in NHL history to allow 10+ goals in consecutive games, joining:

-1965-66 Bruins
-1943-43 Bruins
-1919-20 Quebec Athletic Club/Bulldogs*

*Allowed 10+ goals in three straight games; all three were 11+.
