If he choked someone and it wasn't out of self-defense or whatever, I hope he is fired as soon as possible.
We’ll see. Hope Texas does the right thing here, if the facts are what they seem. But, they’re also on their way to their best season since TJ Ford so the cynic in me isn’t 100% sure that happens.

Beard will be gone as soon as the legal process allows if the reports are true.

Beard suspended without pay.
When he’s fired in a few weeks I wonder who Texas goes after next. It really sucks he couldn’t control his temper - Texas is loaded (well, was). What an absolute idiot and piece of garbage.

Georgetown breaks the Big East record for losing consecutive regular season conferences games. How much longer can Georgetown stick with Ewing?

The rumor is that the boosters have put together the money for his buyout but that the school president (DeGioia) is worried about blowback given Ewing’s legacy.

The reality is that the program is holding on too tightly to the memories of the glory years under Big John. The progression of the coaching job going first to Thompson’s longtime assistant, then his son, and finally to his greatest player is indicative of that. One of his other sons, Ronny, has the vague title of “chief of staff”.

The only way for the program to make a clean break is to bring in a huge name (like somehow convincing Brad Stevens to abandon the NBA) with the mandate to tear it all down but I’m not sure the school is willing to make that kind of commitment.

There's also Rick Pitino, who is basically the meme pick for any Big East fanbase that wants a coaching change. I'm not saying that will necessarily be a good decision, but I have to wonder if someone's going to try it.

Has any coach ever jumped into a big job in their 70’s? Pitino will be 71 in August.

I'm just a neutral DC-area observer of Georgetown basketball, but beyond the coaching situation, the program desperately needs a better arena. Having to play their home games halfway across town in an NBA arena just destroys any possible fan enthusiasm for the team. I understand that parking for a bigger arena on campus would be a nonstarter, but building a 10,000ish seat arena just across the bridge in Arlington would be a vast improvement.

I think most people will understand at this point.

Hiring a guy who would never be considered if he wasn't a legendary ex-player with the team is never a good idea. Georgetown needs a 100% break form the glory days.

Watching the Hogs at Vandy, the Hogs are shooting SEVEN free throws in a row due to a scuffle and flagrants. Never seen that before.

And he helped take Wake to it's one Final Four -- something Tim Duncan, Chris Paul, , Randolph Childress, Josh Howard etc could not do.
Lost to Ohio State, with Jerry Lucas, John Havlicek and a guy off the bench named Knight.

If Rick Pitino had any aspirations of returning to a major program his Iona team isn’t doing him any favors. They are discombobulating in front of our very eyes this with each game this month.

Edit: Pitino must have used this thread to motivate the kids at halftime. Iona outscores Quinnipiac 50-27 to come back from their 40-22 deficit for the win.

Duke-UNC coming up on Saturday with very little hype, for good reason: it will be only the 3rd matchup this century with both teams unranked.

Clemson, Virginia and Pitt at the top of the ACC standings. Is this football?

Wake has been fantastic against UNC, holding a lead in the high teens most of the way, but they’re making me nervous in the last couple minutes…. They can’t stop fouling.

Love Tyree Appleby.

I watched the end of that game on a plane while landing in turbulence — neither helped my nerves.

The fouling was ridiculous.

New Mexico State just shut down their program and put all coaches on leave.
No reason given but not tied to the murder that was related to a player earlier this year.

https://www.koat.com/article/nmsu-mens-basketball-program-suspended/42831804
Still no detail, but it sounds like the decision to suspend play was related to allegations of hazing.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/35633413/nmsu-men-hoops-season-halted-indefinitely-amid-new-allegations

The new allegations involve multiple players being allegedly investigated for their role in hazing attacks on a teammate on more than one occasion….

The Aggies have been embroiled in controversy since November, when forward Mike Peake shot and killed a New Mexico student in Albuquerque in what police called a self-defense case after Peake had been lured to the campus. Per the school's statement, Friday's decision to suspend the season is separate from that case.…

After the Peake incident, multiple NMSU staffers took possession of Peake's gun and other potential evidence that was later recovered by New Mexico State police.

Yeah obviously no one really cares. I do wonder though if the teams were reversed. Or if it was some other random game.

Makes no sense in the first place, the foul was part of the shot attempt and the shot was released in time.
