There is a long list of former Red Sox who would be characterized like this and I still fully embrace them coming to Fenway and calling the Red Sox "we".
Fred Lynn, Carlton Fisk, Dennis Eckersley, Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Ellis Burks, and so on.

And, folks like Kevin Millar, Shane Victorino, Jonny Gomes, who were here for a short while and I would have zero problem if they said "we".

It is certainly better than when fans use "we"...I find that cringey.

Maybe you should just say you don't like Papelbon.
No I like him a ton. Just stuck out to me for some reason. It seemed like since he left he hasn’t been around the same way some other players are. But I could be wrong.

Somewhere
But the team quit on Cora last year down the stretch and Verdugo is Exhibit A for him "not reaching players,"
I am generally pretty ambivalent about managers these days. I think there are some extenuating circumstances re: Verdugo, especially given the stories about his extra curriculars as a prospect with the Dodgers.

"I like Alex Cora, cheater, who had a part in tainting a world series, and was banned from the game for a year. Therefore, something rumored to have happened in the proximity of a player he dislikes some 8 years ago, not only must be true, but probably contributed to their interactions last year. This is the word of the fan. Praise be to the smear."

Some players suck as people; Verdugo seems like he's one of them. Cora can be right sometimes, and in this case all evidence points to him being so.

Rumored? That story was not a rumor...it happened. Verdugo's role in to all of it was ambiguous, but someone's daughter, a young woman, WAS sexually assaulted.

Fair enough - it's poor wording on my part.

But I take it you have no problem with the "smear" part? Given that the reporting, IIRC, didn't suggest Verdugo was responsible for that assault.

I truly don't give two shits about Verdugo anymore; he's going to play baseball and receive a lot of money to do so. If he and Cora don't care for each other it really does matter or affect me one bit.

You seem to be looking to engage it message board arguing with any takers based on your posts from the last 24 hours...I am not your man for that. I piped in because calling the sexual assault a rumor was too far even for a sports message board and you recognized that.

And also, who gives a fuck about what Papelbon thinks? He's clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer. Or the neighborhood.
He may not be Phi Beta Kappa material, but in addition to being one or the many rotating member of NESN--and thus around the 2023 team-- he was Cora's teammate for 3 1/2 years, so he knows Cora pretty well. And he did actually get his college degree, unlike many (most?) college players.

BTW, I never thought Cora was a genius, and his leaving E-Rod in to face Yasiel Puig and allow a 3-run homer in Game 4 of the World Series proved it. Fortunately Moreland and Pearce bailed him out.

You can recognize over-the-top sarcasm, I suppose? My response to you here wasn't it, as you noted - it was poor wording on my part.

If you care about the underlying situation to make an issue of it, you can acknowledge the facts. Smear nor not? (Also not sarcastic.)

Papelbon shared more of his thoughts about Verdugo on “Foul Territory”

https://nypost.com/2024/01/10/sports/jonathan-papelbon-blasts-yankees-alex-verdugo-again/

“Look man, I did 30 games with NESN last year, and I’m doing like pregame. And this dude would come at the same time that I showed up to the field,” Papelbon added Wednesday on “Foul Territory.” “In some, like, Charger, rev his engine up — ‘Look everybody I’m here at the park. Look at me.’ You know what I mean? And you’re late. Nobody wants to play with those players. Nobody wants to play with them.”

Interview with Fitts

Laurila: Any final thoughts?

Fitts: “My goal is to be a longtime big leaguer and to win here in Boston — win some World Series. I also want to be the best version of myself. You asked about comps, and right now I’m focused on becoming that best version. I want to be authentic. At the end of the day, I want to be Richard Fitts.”

Just how fit will Dick Fitt git?
If Dick Fitt hits the fitness bit like a nitwit?
He's no misfit needing a pinch hit.
To wit, Dick Fitt's FitBit
Shows his fit grit ain't no miss-hit!

Breslow's legit for his Dick Fitts fit
And his no-hit shit into the Sox bull pit
Let's all admit before "Balls & Mitts". (P&Cs)
That Dick Fitts fits his Red Sox knits.
