Is this setting up a big OF acquisition? Ohtani?

Anyone familiar with what we’re getting back? Any chance we could have had one of them anyway soon under Rule 5 like Whitlock if we hadn’t done this?

If the Yankees were going to get Ohtani would they still do this?
So many questions

Fitts is good. I do not really like this on first glance but open-minded.

Here
You know what they say: If the Dick Fitts...

This is a bit of a stunner for multiple reasons. Fitts is the only one in their top 30 prospects, and he's 12th.

Those guys are frozen currently, unable to be included in trades, so no. Weissert is on the 40 man, the other two not.

They need contact hitters who don’t K. I don’t like this but admittedly know nothing about the return.

Verdugo is going to hit 20+ homers with Yankee Stadium as his home ballpark. It's going to piss us off to watch him be an all-star there.

BUT...hopefully this (a) is a good return and (b) opens the door for a major acquisition.

That is not how you spell Gleyber but hey pitching. Does this mean NYY is out on Soto?

I find this very interesting on a more high level side of things. Trading major league value for prospects to a rival has to signal something large on the acquisition front.

They want two OFs but one of them has to play CF until Dominguez is back, I guess it could be Judge.

Verdugo was twice disciplined publicly which I imagine means there's a bunch of stuff that never became public. Some of it could have been more important than just being late.

I want them to keep Duran and always thought Verdugo was the odd man out and wouldn’t be worth signing after this season. I don’t know anything about the return, but I’m not upset about trading Verdugo

I agree that the short porch in RF is perfect for maximizing Verdugo's limited power. He'll be a thorn in our sides for one year at least.

We didn't even get a 2B out of this? Why

Closes the book on the Betts trade as a massive failure that everyone involved should have follow them to their graves and beyond.

Not a fan. I liked the deal when it involved getting Torres back, who is a perennially underrated glue guy in NY who would address a big lineup need for 2024. But not nearly as excited about these guys.

One of these recent incidents, Cora was absolutely ripshit, I remember, and unceremoniously benched him. Postgame he singled out “a player who was not at all ready to contribute to his team,” or something like that. It seemed quite a bit more serious than late to a meeting.

Need to see how they spend the saved money and further signings.

I was expecting a Verdugo trade of some sort, but wow this still blows my mind. Breslow fired a broadside.

Dugie when he was on, was one of the better players on the team but could never string together a full season to justify investing long term. Which is really a shame because he was fun to watch when everything was clicking.

Not going to lie. I love the guts Breslow is showing. Makes a significant trade with the Yankees as his first major move. Hopefully the evaluation of Fitts, who feels like the prize here, is correct.

I guess Judge is going to have to find another number now.

You can't say Breslow doesn't have guts. Trading a lefty bat to the Yankees is a risk, and contract-year Verdugo is going to be very motivated to put up big numbers.

Consider the source, but ...

@JimBowdenGM
Don't be surprised if the #Yankees now try to spin Verdugo in a package with King and Thorpe to the #Padres to try and land Juan Soto ....
Imagine being traded for Mookie Betts and Juan Soto and everyone in both fan bases hates you because you're neither Mookie Betts nor Juan Soto.

Right there. If he says these are the arms, these are the arms.

He will unfortunately mash for them most likely, as noted above, but I still will not miss Dugie. Weird to say given he was above average in the field and at the plate, but there you go.

2b is low on our list of priorities--particularly organizationally. Need every upside arm we can get and frankly I'm impressed we got a guy with starter upside for a one year Verdugo rental

I guess he was frustrating behind the scenes, at least to Cora, but I was pretty fond of Dugie. Sad to see him go, and will hope he gets off the Yankees ASAP.

Seems like Breslow is replenishing the pitching pipeline with a AA prospect and some raw arms to start work on. Curious if another shoe drop is coming soon.
