I dunno, it takes 30+ minutes usually to get a field ready from fully tarped. I don't think they were getting anything else in tonight and not really the Mets' fault.

The Marlins were already pissed coming into this game, because the Mets didn't take proper precautions (tarp etc) during the previous torrential rain earlier this week, because they were on the road. So Tuesday's game had to be cancelled and moved to a doubleheader on Wednesday, which messed up Miami's pitching plans for this weekend.

It would be incredible if the Cubs, Marlins, and Reds were all swept this weekend and the resumed game was to eliminate the Padres.

Rangers 89-71
Blue Jays 89-71
Astros 88-72
Mariners 87-73

Astros get a fairly lucky win on paper, Urquidy is not good this year but Arizona let him go six scoreless. Rangers are at pretty high risk of losing the division.

====================

D-backs 84-76
Marlins 83-76
Reds 82-78
Cubs 82-78

With the Marlins having all those tiebreakers, they are actually fairly comfortable right now - Cubs suddenly have an elimination number of 1, too. One thing of note: Reds win the tiebreaker over D-backs if they tie at 84-78. Step 1 was completed tonight.

Can anyone smarter than me lay out a scenario where the Mariners make the playoffs, either as Div. Winner or WC?

This is before tonight’s games:
Ignoring the Jays seems a little strange, given that they are not a lock to make it. Although I believe for all three West teams to make it, the Jays have to lose both of their remaining games, Seattle finishes off the sweep, and Houston has to win at least one.

To put it simply, Toronto's magic number is 1. Every remaining game would have to go against them for a scenario where they miss the playoffs. Depending on what model you look at, they are 94.8%+ to reach the postseason.

They've got the MLB landscape to themselves right now. It's still two hours before any other games are scheduled to start. Lets Miggy get the attention he deserves.
Oh for sure. Wasn't trying to be snide or anything, just letting people know.

Edit: Realize now I wasn't terribly clear, it's on right now.

Didn't think you were being snide. Just adding a little color.

I was actually coming to the thread to bemoan the fact that there are only two games scheduled this afternoon. But now I wonder if MLB didn't do that intentionally so everyone could watch this live.

The Blue Jays are doing Blue Jay things. They gave up 3 in the 10th and are on their way to needing help from Seattle or to win tomorrow with a gassed Romano and Hicks. They always find a way to underachieve.

AL West/WC race is simply sensational right now. Smart move by MLB to move to the format.

Mariners looking pretty willing to help them out at the moment

Marlins took the lead. I think if they hold on, that eliminates the Cubs and the Reds will be eliminated once their game goes final.

The Cubs collapse was just glorious. They can go another 108 years without a championship. It's a shame the Reds wilted down the stretch though.
