You've been checking Twitter since you woke up about Jon Lester and NOTHING'S HAPPENED. You WASTED YOUR WHOLE DAY. Good job!
Joke's on you High Heat...I've been checking SoSH all day. It's pretty much the same thing interspersed with mental slap fights between a bunch of losers doing the same thing as me!mabrowndog said:High Heat Stats MLB @HighHeatStats 41m

Yeah, not exactly inspiring stuff there.rodderick said:Yeah, I really hope they can do better than two guys outside the Marlins top 10 as the main pieces in any trade.

Papelbon's Poutine said:If these Marlins guys are Sox bound, we'd have to assume it's Lackey related right?
Lackey is too ornery and has already made too much money to work for Loria in that amusement park for league minimum next year. He's more likely to buy a membership at Loria's CC and make a point of getting the tee time just ahead of that greed head every day of the season next year.Moosbrugger said:Kind of a dick move to trade Lackey to Miami because I have no doubt that Jeffrey Loria will insist he play for the minimum next year. Just because he can.
I don't have a real answer, but it's something I was wondering myself. FWIW though, I think there's a very good chance they get a solid deal and we never find out.Mugsys Jock said:Question to fill the time....
Is the best the Sox can do for Lester at the deadline is something they evaluate to be only slightly better than a compensation pick, do they go ahead and keep Lester for the rest of the year? Would it in any way enhance their chances of renewing him, and/or settle down the clubhouse?
You mean because it's in his contract?Moosbrugger said:Kind of a dick move to trade Lackey to Miami because I have no doubt that Jeffrey Loria will insist he play for the minimum next year. Just because he can.
Yeah, but everyone knows Lackey can't read.Jed Zeppelin said:You mean because it's in his contract?

Sure, but I see a bunch of random opinions, not a consensus opinion by the SOSH legal team. And there have been 0 reports backing up the speculation.

Correct although I would have a really tough time believing that those two players were all the Sox could get in return for Lester. I would think they target Ozuna after finding out that Yelich and Stanton are pipe dreams.Papelbon's Poutine said:If these Marlins guys are Sox bound, we'd have to assume it's Lackey related right?
Dewy4PrezII said:Yeah but he's 25 and he's a college player who's been in the minors for 4 years...not much of a prospect. Not for a year and a half of Lackey who's on a league minimum deal for next year.

Snippets from Mark Canha's BA writeup in the preseason (24th):
"Canha crushes line drives to all fields using a short stroke. He's got the strength to hit for power, particularly to his pull side, if he can maintain the adjustments he made in the 2nd half of 2013 to use his legs more efficiently...While the Marlins have tried him at 3B and in the OF, he spent most of his time at first, where he shows fringy overall defensive ability. Canha grows on scounts over time but doesn't profile well."
I have no idea what that last sentence means-I gather he's not toolsy or whatever. Without commenting on some imaginary return for Lackey, you can't really ask anyone to produce much more than Canha has. Whether or not he looks good in a uniform, seems like he's earning a shot with someone.

Interesting, I'd be sad to see him go, even if it betters the team. Victorino is kind of my binky.mauidano said:Shane Victorino pulled from game...
To be fair this statement has been uttered about a dozen times this year...mauidano said:Shane Victorino pulled from game...

Shane Victorino was not observed to have given or received any #hugs before or after leaving the game.
geoduck no quahog said:Wow, it didn't take more than one tweet for the Trash Lackey crowd to start gearing up.
The fact is that we know nothing about him personally (including his private relationships, as if they mattered), that his team mates always liked him, that he pitched through injury, and that he contributed to a World Series title.
Shitty resume.

He has nice AAA numbers, but he is playing in the hitters haven known as the Pacific Coast League. Same league that was just used to explain the decline in numbers of the LHP the Sox got from SF............If true, one would have to assume his numbers are a bit inflated

Harry Hooper said:I was driving in the car, but I am pretty sure Dave O'Brien casually tossed in a bombshell about Masterson on tonight's broadcast. He said Tito told him in Cleveland that he believed that Masterson was NOT injured. The issues with velocity decline and performance were all in Justin's head, and {paraphrasing} Tito doubted Justin's desire to compete.

I'd much rather see them extend him at 3/24-30 rather than make a QO for $15 million to a 40 year old closer who's going to get 25 save opportunities next year.Mugsy's Walk-Off Bunt said:Andrew Miller just struck out the side. Stanton, please.
It's because I like Koji, Victorino, Lackey, Gomes, and Lester so much that I'd like to see them traded to contenders (still holding out the slightest of hopes that Lester comes back via FA). I still think we could get a nice haul for them and build around the nucleus we already have in Pedroia, Papi, Xavier, etc to field a competitive team next season and certainly in 2016.P'tucket said:I'd much rather see them extend him at 3/24-30 rather than make a QO for $15 million to a 40 year old closer who's going to get 25 save opportunities next year.
My exact thoughts—from your keypad. Send Koji off to a land of postseason relevance where he belongs. Get a good chip/prospect for him and bring him back for every single solitary Sox alums function on the docket.P'tucket said:I'd much rather see them extend him at 3/24-30 rather than make a QO for $15 million to a 40 year old closer who's going to get 25 save opportunities next year.
I would like to extend him as well. I would also like to see if he could be stretch out to start again, but I don't think that would happen.P'tucket said:I'd much rather see them extend him at 3/24-30 rather than make a QO for $15 million to a 40 year old closer who's going to get 25 save opportunities next year.
