There was something in the air, no question about it.There's no regret. If I had to do the same, I would.

But manager John Farrell said the Red Sox view Abad as someone who also can retire right-handed hitters.
"He's certainly going to give us depth on the left-handed side," Farrell said. "He's having a very strong year. He's been tough against left-handed hitters. He's also had good success against righthanders. He's pitched late in ballgames. And what we tried to do was fortify the back end as much as possible to give us as many options as we can."
Righties have a .257/.360/.351/.712 line against him this year and he has held right-handed batters to a .254/.334/.413/.747 line over his career.
Could he be in the mix to pitch late in games?
"That's going to be based on who's available on a given day," Farrell said.
Oops.I think they should use him in a low leverage situation in his first appearance, just to get his feet wet.
thisPrice coming apart and not even at 100 pitches pisses me off more than this guy throwing a bad pitch.
Yup. Didn't take him long to fit in.One batter in and he's already a true Red Sox reliever.
In high-leverage situations, OPS allowed:I think they should use him in a low leverage situation in his first appearance, just to get his feet wet.
Well, the move is Abad for Layne and Light. They replaced a guy with a 130 ERA+ for one with 109. A .181/.281/.226 line against lefties for a .246/.293/.403 line. Oh, and three years of player control. And another young player who could be a decent 7th inning guy down the road.I don't really get why DD has to move every young player for a mildly more experienced version. I get we need a lefty, but Light's major issue is walks and Abad's major issue is... walks.

A free pass to Cano wouldn't have been the worst thing, though.I don't really get why DD has to move every young player for a mildly more experienced version. I get we need a lefty, but Light's major issue is walks and Abad's major issue is... walks.
They weren't looking for the guy with the best career numbers, they were looking to upgrade the guy who's been the weakest link in the bullpen in 2016. They did that, and gave up a 25 year old who looked like just about the furthest thing from a major leaguer in his chances this year. I don't mind that at all.Well, the move is Abad for Layne and Light. They replaced a guy with a 130 ERA+ for one with 109. A .181/.281/.226 line against lefties for a .246/.293/.403 line. That's all well and good, but hopefully starters will keep going long enough so that hitters like Davis (LHH who wont get PH for) dont get 2 ABs against the bullpen. Last night, Davis was going to get one shot at each of them no matter which order it was in.Farrell indicated that Ross would take over the lefthanded set-up role in place of Abad.
I was thinking lefty Gagne, but Gagne came with much higher expectations, so Sauerbeck is absolutely the right comp. Didn't he end up with elbow surgery? So Abad is the 2016 version of Sauerbeck.
So you're saying it was Abad trade?Any way they can get the extra two years of Layne and 6 years of Light back a la the rework of the Sauerbeck trade?
I think at this point we're saying FernanDOH!So you're saying it was Abad trade?
Or just a Abad gamble?
