I hadn't seen much of Podziemski play until now but he had a few sequences that opened my eyes. That take with his left was kind of sick.
I think KO’C referred to him on his podcast today and I kind of rolled my eyes, but he looks like he has some game. Kudos for spelling his name right.

That chokehold was at least as bad as a punch. At least a punch can be a result of a player losing his mind for a moment, this lasted 10+ seconds with half the team trying to pull him off of Gobert.

It was bad. He was the escalation. He'll get a vacation and pay some significant money - this is a tourney game and he is a blot on it.

On Sunday, the Wolves were up 10 with a minute left, both teams put their benches in. Podziemski scored 8 points in 30 seconds, then proceeded to steal the ball from Anderson and rebound a missed Moody 3. Missed the putback, but he single-handedly got them back in it in a blink.

Yeah the Dubs booth was discussing that earlier.

I love old ass Dario having a throwback evening thus far.

Bob Fitzgerald and Kelenna Azubuike make Muhammad Saeed Al-Sahhaf look like a paragon of objectivity. Many Dubs fans don't like them if the socials are representative.
Amen.

I think Draymond is going to get a 10-gamer at least. That was a really dangerous situation, and he was clearly trying to put Gobert in a chokehold. You don't accidentally wind up with your arm around the neck of a guy 6 inches taller than you.

And Draymond and Gobert have some history, don’t they? Of course it wasn’t premeditated, but as you say it also wasn’t accidental - and it lasted an uncomfortably long time.

Draymond is the worst. I would love to see him get a really long vacation because he will just do something like this again.

Towns should have choked Draymond out; perfect opportunity. Drop him and let him crack his head on the wood floor and see if he keeps bringing this energy to the court. He must be Adam Silver’s fluffer to get away with the shit he has pulled over his career.

The NBA has let Draymond run roughshod for long enough.

This is exactly what you get when you give him his own set of Technical rules.

One team has been allowed to have a goon for ten years and other players get T’d up for breathing funny. Joke league

Again, this is part of the what has otherwise been a smashing success for the NBA. Its made early season weeknight games more relevant. You can't have old ass Draymond trying to put Gobert to sleep, like, at all. I don't know about 10 games but he will be punished for this.

The league is trying to build out its product. That doesn't include this sort of behavior - my guess is that Silver will make an example out of him but who knows.

Not sure if I'm using the expression correctly, but KAT is definitely not about that life.

Jimmy Butler completely agrees with you.

I love Ant Edwards, but a superstar doesn't do this kind of disappearing act. Hopefully this post doesn't lead to him scoring 20 in the 4th.

Calling CP3 "washed" is unfair, but he's not someone you can rely upon anymore. Not that that's news, but this game re-confirmed it.

Two bad mistakes in the last 90 seconds. Has to take the mid-range at 98-99.

This Spurs-OKC game is a sloooog. Both teams just went three minutes without scoring; Spurs sitting at 52 points with 5 to play in the third…
Was looking forward to that much hyped game. But...wow -- yawn. I think San Antonio is doing Wemby a disservice surrounding him with such crappy players.

One of the things that is striking to me about that clip is that the Minnesota announcers were matter of fact in immediately concluding that Draymond needed to be ejected. The Warriors telecast had Draymond “coming to his teammate’s defense”. Ridiculous.
You'd think SF/Bay Area would have a bit more sophistication -- not to be a coastal snob (except that I am), but you'd expect that sort of homer-ism by broadcast team/fans more in places like OKC. I will say, though, that saw that Podziemski (sp?) kid a few times in pre-season and he looked great. Was wondering if that was just a pre-season mirage, but looks like GS really got themselves a good player late in the first. Jaime Jaquez is another late-ish pick looking like a solid get.

PHI scoring tonight:

Embiid/Melton/Maxey/Harris: 118 points on 75 shots in 148 minutes
Everyone else: 8 points on 11 shots in 92 minutes

They should probably suspend Kerr at least a game for constantly enabling this crap too.

Gobert puts his midrange into the scorers table if this is the play I'm thinking of when he rotated to the corner and got a piece of Saric's 3.

I love that Draymond went full Brock Lesnar and embarrassed the league during Silver’s precious tournament. Warriors also lost the game which makes it even better.

Kerr sticks up for Draymond post-game and blames Gobert for what happened

To the shock of no one, Kerr’s recollection of how the event unfolded is completely wrong and self serving. I’m only surprised that he somehow didn’t blame Marcus Smart for anything

With no hyperbole, Draymond is a mentally ill individual who is physically dangerous to others. This has been apparent for over a year now, and no one is forcing him to get the help he needs, because the league wants ratings, and the Warriors want to win basketball games.

This isn't "haha he really is passionate" anymore; he's disturbed, violent and unpredictable.

Yep, something is seriously OFF. In the past, it's been Dray's version of Wrestlemania in the Bay. Always kind of edgy/drama-filled. BUT the Warriors and Draymond in particular have gone completely loco.

If I were to play armchair shrink I'd guess it's a combination of all the bad PR Green received last season after the Poole Punch. The subsequent trade, and the Warriors scapegoating JP for a 2nd round exit last season. That has emboldened Draymond. He feels he was "wronged" last season. He's been extra angry this year, it's been noticeable and made watching the Warriors/Curry Show a complete slog (I noted this the last 2 times I've watched Warrior games).

Klay started it last night in the first couple of minutes by grabbing the front of McDaniel's jersey, a weird/aggressive play. Immediately the Warriors broadcast said the "Warriors were sending a Message". Pre-meditated and Kerr excused both Klay and Dray's actions in the post-game presser.

I mean Kerr is flat out LYING. Watch the replay. It is 100% obvious that Klay sticks his arm into McDaniels first. There is no gray area here. Kerr should also be suspended IMO.

The play is here at about 5:44. View: https://youtu.be/_bTXGkERJfA?si=Oqdms3D6YrMc5A1P

I think you’re right - once CP is in the paint he probably doesn’t have the shot. Maybe he had one at the foul line extended, but under the circumstances the pass to Saric was the right decision. Just a great play by Gobert.

One can only hope that this ends the Draymond Rules and he gets treated like every other player in the league moving forward. But I know it won't. He'll get a game or two and continue trying to hurt his opponents, ultimately pulling a DWade and seriously injuring someone.

Kerr should be embarrassed after all the sanctimonious crap he gave opponents over the years while he continues to defend this with a straight face.

Silver is really sackless when it comes to making players accountable. It would be nice to have a league office somewhere between the NBA who view individual players above all and the NFL who ignores off-the-field stuff and persecutes minor "equipment infractions". What is odd about the kid gloves treatment of Draymond is Jordan Poole wasn't wrong, he is a backpack for Curry.

We need NHL style breakdown videos by the league of these incidents, with an analysis relative to the rules, slow mo replays, and an announcement of suspensions or fines.

Draymond is turning into late-career Rodman.

As for the tournament, I'm not a hater, just a not-understander. These teams that are playing these games would have been playing them anyway. So I just have a hard time seeing them as "different." (I don't mean literally "seeing." I'm not blind. I "see" the courts.)

I think the Champions League comp is off as teams are regularly playing against teams they don't normally play against. And even when they do play against familiar competition, its in the context of a tournament that involved dozens of teams not normally aggregated like that. If this tournament included top-flight teams from other countries' leagues, (Champions League-style)_ *that* would be something interesting. (I dont know, would the NBA top four obliterate all the top teams from all the top leagues elsewhere?)

Whether we understand it or not, the players, themselves, say it feels different. They interviewed Aaron Gordon mid-game last night and he was huffing and puffing like he was going 110% (usually, players are not that winded for these things) and he talked about it just felt more intense, guys were going harder.

Maybe it’s not a great analogy to other global sports events (and I really think comps to soccer do a disservice to the marketing), but I think we’re finding that if you give ultra-competitive people something new and shiny to play for, they’re going to want it badly.

Personally, I REALLY want the Cs to win the first-ever one of these.

At the end of the day, why do we care about the NBA title?

Because everyone else cares about it.

Once you bootstrap that in sports, you get compelling tournaments.

This one will never be as meaningful as the title, since it's a more random single elimination, but there's no reason it can't be #2.
