Just did some more research on these - there are 30 pin to lightning adaptors, but none of them seem to pass audio.

That's because the dedicated direct audio-out pins on the 30-pin connector don't exist on the lightning cable (there's only 8 pins!).

I bought something very similar to this for my car, just to have some kind of audio-out to put into the aux jack of the car - the exact thing I bought isn't available on amazon anymore so I can't vouch for that exact one, but for $2.84 you can take a gamble like I did.  What that does is convert the headphone jack output to the pins on the 30-pin connector, so you don't get line-out, you get headphone-out (which means the volume on the phone still affects the sound, and the output level is a bit higher than line-level).  It's better than nothing but not ideal.  Also, it lets me charge it using my old 30-pin cable, so I get (acceptable) audio and power, which is all I wanted.

As an aside, the reason they can implement a "not approved by Apple" policy more robustly may be related to this (note all the discussion of security and authentication functions).

So how do people feel about their 6's and 6+'s after a few weeks?

I'm going to upgrade from my old 4s at some point before the end of the year so feedback on the new phones would be appreciated.

I LOVE my 6. The battery is insane, often lasting me 36 hours with decent use and brightness at 40-60%.

It's quick and it's light. No issues at all.

I love my 6+. I would not be able to go back to a small screen after using it for a few weeks. I am a very heavy user of my phone and battery life lasts me from 5AM - midnight with no charge.

Only issue I am having is some IOS issues I believe with screen getting stuck in landscape mode, some apps showing black screen before loading.

I'm loving my iPhone 6. Still occasionally wondering if I should have gotten a 6+ but I imagine that'll end once I replace my iPad with the new one they're about to announce. Looking at my iPad screen after getting used to the quality of the iPhone 6 screen has been a bit jarring and I'm looking forward to having a tablet with a similar quality display.

Yeah, I'm happy with my 6 too. The first few days I found it very slippery and clumsy to hold which I think had as much to do with the thinness as material. I hated to cover up the nice aluminum body with a chunk of plastic but the case was a game changer. I'm coming from a 4s and I don't think I realized just how much I was locked into one handedness. With the 6 I can still just one hand it but that top left corner is a stretch and I would love to see a move for app developers to start moving back buttons to the bottom (point, Android). This also makes the scroll to top (one of my favorite iOS features) useless one handed. I just cant get used to the double tap home button thing but I guess that's on me. Would be interested to hear if others are using this feature regularly.

I haven't had a chance to mess with the new camera features much but I can say its definitely faster, the speakers are improved significantly and the vibration is much stronger. Also loving the fingerprint reader.

The stronger vibration motor has been a key improvement for me as well, it's night and day vs the 5S. I missed calls and texts on vibrate all the time even with the phone in my front pocket. I always feel the iPhone 6 vibration.

Wrong thread but fuck it - I'm stick rocking an iPad 2 but had Comcast internet installed at the house and get about 150 mp/s down now and it's crazy how slow it is compared to our phones and computers. I assume it's simply because it can handle my new Airport Extreme's ac bandwidth.

So if I got a new iPad, what can I do with my old iPad 2? It works perfect and is in perfect shape, battery lasts 10+ hours.

Sell it on craigslist and use the money toward a new one? Or see what you can get through a trade in program
Amazon trade in
Apple Recycling program
Best Buy trade in

Target did the trade in program a couple of years ago and we got $200 GC for an iPad 1.

Why are you assuming it's your wireless? Do you have any AC capable devices? There's not a ton out there.

iPhone 5S don't support AC, neither do the current gen of iPad Air.

The iPad 2 may be slow for other reasons, with newer software updates it is slower due to them being resource heavy and apps being built to later platforms.

I'd highly doubt it has to do with your wifi speeds.

It almost certainly does have to do with wifi speeds. The iPad 2 IIRC has wifi N but doesn't have a MIMO antenna which limits the speed it can connect at to much lower than N is capable of, never mind AC. It shouldn't be painfully slow but it won't be fast enough to max out that kind of Internet connection.

For what it's worth using the same router and a 120 Mbps Internet connection I get much better speeds even going from iPhone 5S to iphone 6 primarily because the n wifi on the 5S didn't really preferentially go back to the 5 ghz network after swapping to 2.4 due to signal strength whereas with AC it will always hop onto 5 ghz when it can.

It's not lagging slow, it just takes a few extra seconds to load a webpage. When coming from the Mac that is instant or our phones that is instant it's annoying as shit.

It's not lagging too match at all with apps. I'll look into a trade-in program. Using it as a controller isn't bad idea either, I just don't have much to utilize it for really at the moment.

I may be alone on this, but thought I should chime in: my 6 experience has been generally frustrating.  I ended up making five trips to the Genius Bar during the first two weeks of having it.  Apparently, in a known issue, iPhone 6's on Verizon have an issue staying connected to the network.  Which meant that I was both not getting an LTE or 3G connection, but also that I was unable to make or receive calls.  Had to reboot my phone every time I wanted to check to see if anyone had called, because that was the only way to get a (temporary) connection.  Got a replacement phone, but kept having problems.  Eventually it came down to, "Well, Verizon is upgrading their network, hopefully it'll work out eventually."  The problems are happening less frequently as time goes on, but it's definitely taken the shine off enjoying the new phone.

Since I'm already here bitching: almost every major social media app loads significantly slower on my 6/ios 8 than it did on my 5/ios7.  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram...all take 15-30 seconds to load, and sometimes pictures/avatars never load.  So that's a fun feature too.

The screen is very nice, and I've fired up some games I never got around to playing before now that I have a higher resolution and more real estate.  The size and form works for me, despite having been worried about the larger screen.  So in the long run I'm sure I'll be happy with it, and will eventually be complaining about how bad my iPhone Mega 7 is running compared to my old beloved 6.  I'm sure this will all be resolved sometime soon, and shouldn't affect your future upgrade.  But figured I should chime in with a somewhat negative experience.

Anyone having Bluetooth connectivity issues with the 6? In my car, I can play music, listen to podcasts, stream and even download my phone's contacts.  But I can't talk hands-free on the phone. I've deleted the device, and re-paired a few times. It works once, then I can't make or receive calls via Bluetooth, which is a problem because I usually return calls on the drive home and part of my drive (in DC) is mandatory hands-free. Some forums indicate it's at least a known problem. Some suggestions have been to reset all settings, but it doesn't appear that's a universal fix. Pus there's the hassle of manually reconfiguring all my settings.  Anyone have a similar Bluetooth issue with the 6?  Or ideas on how to fix it?

Bluetooth issues are an iOS 8 bug resolved in the upcoming 8.1 update.

Is anyone else having issues with Apple Maps? It crashes upon opening every time. It also prevents me from using any apps that have map features, so just using google maps isn't a solution. I'm on IOS 8.0.2

A call to Apple Support fixed it. They didn't seem to know the root of the problem but a reset to factory settings fixed it.

Holy fuck, the new iPad Air 2 is only 6.1 mm thick. That's really just an absurd level of thin.

Laminated display, finally. They're claiming 56% less reflective screen between the lamination and a new coating.

I am going to ask this for the 1,000th time.  Is anyone dissatisfied with the thickness of their mobile device?  Apple's fixation with thin is baffling.  The first thing they said about the new iPad was how thin it is.

Whatever their fixation is, the balance sheet seems to like it.

Do I specifically want my iPad to be thinner? Not necessarily, but lighter is certainly welcome. What else are they going to do to make it lighter, fill it with empty space?

It's less of an issue for the iPad, but the iPhone 6 should have been the same thickness as the iPhone 5S with every CC of newly available space packed with battery.

I'd be willing to bet that their balance sheet has very little do with the improvements they have made in the thickness of their latest devices.

Oh sure, I'm just saying they don't have a compelling reason to follow any particular trend or to NOT be baffling.  They can do whatever the hell they want and they know people are going to buy it.

I don't get it for phones. I don't have an opinion about it for the IPad. But who cares that the new IMac is 5mm thick? Good for you it is a desktop computer, yay i guess.

For tablets I think thinner and lighter are well worth it. I use my iPad Air all the time and any way to reduce size and weight is great. I use it for hours reading etc. Going from the iPad 2 to iPad Air was a game changer for long periods of time.

For phones, I'd rather more battery life and slightly thicker.

For desktops, who gives a shit?

That iMac at $2500 is tempting. I would never buy one buy still.

The new iMac makes this article on the Verge look pretty silly as Apple now has released an all in one computer with a 5k monitor while dell is working on a standalone monitor and it's also priced at $2500. Wonder what Dell will do now and how the fuck apple put a full iMac into that price tag if dell was going to price their standalone monitor at the same price. (and maintaining huge margins)

Since my office is slated to get new computers, I'm really looking forward to watching games on this 5K Retina display next season.

You do know that the games will max out at ~1K resolution, right? 1080i is the highest broadcast resolution, and 1080p is the highest cable/streaming resolution. Non-theatrical resolutions are not likely to rise above 2K in the next 10 years, long after the computer is dead.

I'm honestly not sure how 5K matters at 27 inches. It might be nice on larger screens.

yeah, but if he watched 5 games in separate windows simultaneously, each would be maxed out, correct?

Haha yeah... Well, 4, unless he wanted one that was rotated and stretched. :) And at these smaller window sizes, there's no substantive difference to the eye on a 27 inch screen of 720 vs 1080.

Can you expand on this? I'm not being snark but seriously curious.

Is this a matte vs. "glossy" argument or is Apple using "shitty glass". Does glass in front in non-bright lighting really render a 5k display useless?

lol ... nothing of the sort, I was referring to the equally silly race to claim more and more megapixel counts in cheap digital cameras over the years, especially pointless if the lenses ("the glass") in front of these cameras remains inferior. The combination does not result in superior images.

1080p is not the highest streaming resolution. It may be for some services, but streaming 4k is certainly possible and sometimes done.

Yeah, since we were talking about watching of games, I was talking about streaming of games.

It certainly is possible to stream at higher resolutions right now, but - between & among the 10+ year rollout of regular HD, the bandwidth costs, the failure of 3D TV, the lack of a compression solution for mega-high-res, and the diminishing returns on investment of each resolution bump - it's safe to say we're several computing generations away from sports having incentive to consistently deliver anything beyond 2K.

~1K TV is still where 1) the money is, 2) the bandwidth is, 3) where consumers are. We're only 10ish years into widespread HD. It took 50 to get over SD. I expect less organic demand.

My larger point is that 5K is overkill for this screen size, in much the same way Couperin meant. At the distances one sits from a computer, 3K is around the point of no return for utility (eyeball-judging by my 13 inch 3200x1800 laptop).
