The phone clearly has a weak spot near the buttons, which wasn't tested by Consumer Reports. It's not particularly likely that someone will apply force at just the right spot in their pocket, but let's not claim this is something that's just made up. When you drill holes in metal, that metal becomes weaker.

It's not made up but it's certainly exaggerated. People are under the impression that their phones are gonna bend in their pocket because of a YouTube video.

I just got a shipping statement.  It's coming from China.  How long does that usually take?
Depends on the means. As a point of comparison, my new Subaru was shipped from Japan earlier this year by boat and took about 3-4 weeks to get to the dck in Charlestown. But if there is rail or flight involved at some point, it could be quicker. I just don't know how Apple does distribution.

Got my 6 on Thursday. Truly love this phone (and I use all of the popular Android phones daily for work). Still almost dropping it pretty frequently but I'm not using a case. Went with the $6/mo Squaretrade plan instead. What it really needs is grip along the side rails. I'm sure someone will come up with this.

I'm not going to lie, I've been shying away from the Plus because of it.

Apple said there have been 9 complaints in total. I wouldn't worry too much.
So, did Apple somehow make a bad batch? Did they get weaker case materials from a subcontractor into one of their plants? I'm sure they're made at multiple plants. Sounds more like a materials problem than an assembly problem. Only 9 complaints but how many people so far have stressed them by having them in a skinny jeans pocket and driving all day? The video I saw made it look pretty damn "pliable" or bendable. The 6 case is metal (anodized Aluminum) according to Apple. I wonder if it's thinner Al than in the 5 though?

It's an $800 piece of electronics. Don't treat it like shit. Problem solved. All but 9 users have figured this out.

After a week with my 6 plus, I was looking at the 6 in an Apple Store this morning, and it felt tiny to me. I think I would have been very happy going directly from a 5 to a 6, but I've been spoiled by the bigger screen. Now, I can't imagine ever buying anything smaller.

That's all that had complained about it as of, when, Thursday? There is no way my 5S is going to bend unless it's put in a vise. I think they either used too thin Aluminum or got a bad batch into one plant. So, if and when it gets bent, even a tiny amount, does the stress crack a chip or other component inside? Time will tell. FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt). All said, I'll probably get a 6 when my upgrade discount comes up.

You mean the video that starts out at 2:23 pm and the phone was fine then when he bends it the time is 1:59-2:01pm?

His fingers were pretty damn red while he was trying to bend it.

As noted upthread these complaints came with the 5 as well and were forgotten for the same reason this will be: a few users thought their phones were indestructible because they're idiots.

Consumer Reports has the 6 bending at 90 lbs of force. When you put 90lbs of force on something in your pocket by bending your leg, you can definitely feel that. You've already disregarded that that thing is important, IMO. It would be great to see that pressure put in context on other items. The Onion headline should be "Shocking! Users report glass breaks when they drop their iPhone!1!"

You literally have a higher chance of being hit by a car today than your iPhone bending.

Edit: I wear what would be wrongly, but commonly, described as "skinny jeans."

It seems there's a weak point in iP6 near the buttons. Problem is, for most it won't matter but for a small % of buyers the phone will bend.

That CR video is bending the phone right in the middle, which is not where the weak point is. It makes sense with the pants/pocket thing as the middle of the phone will be fine if it's in your pant pocket, but could hit the weak spot as you sit, as the pressure would be higher up the phone.

If I'm invested in the iOS apps I'd love to have the bigger iP6+ and just make sure I protect it and case it up. Regarding NPJ's comment about his fingers being pretty red, he does the same test with Note 3 with more force and N3 does not bend:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwM4ypi3at0

But would that stop a potential iP6+ buyer to all of a sudden switch to a Note 3? I highly doubt it. iP6+ is a beautiful phone and a much needed update in many ways. As always, it seems to come down to which OS you're going to stay in with these phones.

That's not bent? The casing itself may not be permanently cracked or bent but the internals of the phone (the part that matters) are getting the same enormous amount of stress.

I thought about switching to a 6+ after going to the store and handling it. I would love to have that gorgeous 5.5" display, and it fit in my pocket better than I expected it to, but I ended up deciding it made more sense to have the 6 which I can still use with one hand and continue to bring my iPad when I want a larger screen. The 6+ was a lot more tempting after playing with it in person though, and if I didn't have an iPad and plan to keep it, I'd definitely go with a 6+.

The Spigen smooth black case arrived in the mail Saturday. It's perfect for me, giving me enough grip on the 6 to not feel like I'm about to drop it. It's unlikely to protect against a drop like a sturdier case, but for what I need it works great. This is the first case I've ever had on a smart phone, and it doesn't add much bulk plus it looks cool. For $10, would recommend. (The Amazon link on the previous page included numerous different case options re: styles, colors, etc.)

How about screen protectors?  Anyone found one yet that they really like?  From what I've seen, the rounded edges are causing all kinds of problems.  Some companies have taken their screen protectors off Amazon and their own websites while they re-engineer them.  Not sure if I want film or glass, but I'm curious to see if anyone here has found something they're happy with.

I got the Spigen case, and it's okay. I'm curious if anyone knows any super thin cases like it that fix the issue of the iPhone's curved sides? I hate the curvature of the phone, so I'm hoping to find a case that replicates the form of the iPhone 5?

Biggest thing I've noticed about my 6 is a dramatically more powerful/receptive antenna. Where my 5 could barely connect to the wifi at work, I have full bars all day. Same with getting LTE in places I didn't before. As a result, my battery has lasted WAY longer, due to it not shuffling back and forth between services. I can easily go the day on one charge, with the same amount of video/games/browsing that I've normally done. That alone as made the upgrade well worth it for me.

I am loving the apple leather case. It's sleek, slim, protective, and damn comfortable.

I've never used a case before, and I have an apple leather case en route right now. It's not that I think this phone feels fragile so much as wanting to be able to toss it on a table or something without worrying about scratching the hell out of the aluminum on the back. Plus I figure it'll probably give me a better grip on the thing. My 5S was the first iPhone I had dropped since the original, and this one seems a bit more slippery than the 5S was.

I've had Ghost Armor on my last handful of iPhones and my iPad, and my 6 plus is no exception. At this point, it's kind of weird working a touch screen without one.

The 6+ clearly feels slipperier than my old 5.  I frequently put my phone down on the (round fabric-covered) arm of my den sofa, and I found that without a case, my iPhone 4 almost always slid off the arm.  My 5 was fine and usually stayed where I put it even without a case.  I tried going caseless for a few days with my 6+, but it failed the sofa arm test.  So I'm back to the cheap rubberish case I bought at Best Buy until I can find something better.

That's a nice case Ipswich. Is it a plastic or rubber (or rubber-esque) material?

I'd say rubber-esque material. It's more rubbery than plastic. Although it's advertised as smooth, it has a nice rubber-like grip to it that gives me a lot of tactile feel and comfort that I'm not likely to drop it. (This is not a case to protect against an actual drop, like Otterbox or something similar.)  I hadn't seen one before, but thought for $10 on Amazon, it was worth a try.

Hope you didn't get a light color. Leather dirties up really quick.

Heck, any light color case, leather or otherwise.  I remember the time I went with the white case/phone combo. Took about 2 weeks for the phone to become blue from my jeans.

I will say that I'm happy with the brown Apple leather case for my iPhone 6. I really soured on Apple-made cases after those bumpers for the iPhone 4. The leather case doesn't make the phone too bulky, but it's thick enough to protect the now-protruding camera lens (one thing I dislike about the new design).

Can you tell me if the sides come far enough above the front bezel to allow you to lay the phone face down without the glass touching the table? I'm balking a little bit on the Aluminum Fit because of the hard plastic. I just got my phone and I think Im going to want something a little grippy.

I should also mention that the cutout on the back for the camera is also slightly raised around the edges of the cutout to ensure the camera lens doesn't come in contact with the surface when the phone is laying face-up.  (As you know, on the 6 the camera lens itself slightly protrudes and isn't flush with the aluminum back case.)

Even if they worked for audio they would not be approved for use by Apple.  If that matters to you.

While I don't actually agree with your observations (I feel most of the mainstream Watch coverage has been agnostic/skeptical, they have made fun of Apple for introducing a phablet), I also think you're reading too much into blackball conspiracy theories here. The tech media may be generally hesitant to make fun of the Watch because the last two product that many of them made fun of, the iPhone and iPad, were runaway best sellers. I think a lot tech reporters have acknowledged that Apple deserves the benefit of the doubt about new product lines.

Mainstream tech writers don't write too much negative stuff about Apple for the same reason mainstream basketball writers don't write too much negative stuff about the Spurs. The success has been so overwhelming that it's hard to do without risking sounding silly.
Still think I am making to much of the blackball conspiracy?

I like the case so far but I do miss the ease of swiping gestures from the edge of the phone with the curved glass.
