Yup, they're either #6 or #5 and obviously #5 is a much better place to be.Dolphins only move up to #5 if they win and the Chargers beat the Chiefs, right?
I guess both teams have something to play for now, which oughta annoy Jimmy Garoppolo to no end.
We made it, boys. What a surreal feeling. Bless you, Adam Gase. May you live a long a productive life, and remain in South Florida for eternity. The Fins are so beat up right now, but it's just not in Gase's DNA to let up and treat this upcoming week as a "BYE", especially with a chance to move up to a more favorable seeding. I figure those who can play will, and NE will get Miami's best shot come Sunday.
On paper, it really shouldn't be close, but as we've seen in seasons prior, anything can happen in Miami.
With such a low likelihood of the Chargers beating KC, Miami probably ought to be resting starters. Not sure what will happen, but that's what I'd do as a coach.Yup, they're either #6 or #5 and obviously #5 is a much better place to be.
LOLOLOL
Convince me this isn't one of the two or three worst teams in the NFL. cut bait? huge hole? They are staring at the abyss already. The new coach, new system looking at starting season 1-3 or 0-4? then they'll quit. This team does nothing well. They can't block, can't tackle, can't cover, can't run and can't throw the ball downfield. And they are relatively old.
The mediocre Cowboys dominated them on both sides of the ball. And Tannehill still can't audible to a better play or blocking scheme, he still doesn't see the field fast enough and he isn't accurate. But he's a tough kid, I'll give him that. he gets hit every time he drops back. But everything you read about practices is same that you see in games. You worry about sucking the next couple years with a new QB? Dak Prescott is already better than Tannehill...just find the right QB
legit chance at 3-13 or 2-14 this year, new system or not, Gase has really stepped in poop with this team.
Your aqua fever has driven you delirious.
This is a 6+ win team with the ability to push 9 wins if health breaks right for them.
- The Dolphins front 4 could be a top 5 defensive line (barring Wakes health).
- This is probably the best offensive line Tannehill's had to work with (tallest midget, but still...)
- Probably the best receiving unit Tannehill has had to work with (I like Parker to look much better this year).
- Ajayi should be able to mostly replace Miller's production.
- I really like Gase.
Now, the Dolphins back 7 is a mess and if Tannehill doesn't step up, none of this matters. All of these positives still only add up to 7-9 wins, but this team certainly is better than the 3-13 nightmare you're predicting. Which, as pointed out, may is worse for your teams drafting future.
This was fun to look back at.The front four sucks. Williams is toast. He is worthless at this point. Wake is a situational pass rusher at best. He can't set the edge anymore. Suh? He will be the first to mail it in and Phillips has not shown ability to unseat fossil Mitchell. All this talk about front four people forget how bad they were last year. And the back 7? Oh boy. Add to that reshad got paid so expect a drop in performance. The other safety spot will improve. Lippett? Maxwell? McCain? Teams will throw for 400 yards against this team regularly if need be.
The only hope for improvement is if the oline goes from horrible to average and Gase is a whisperer. Looks like they'll move Tannehill around more which is good but the line got dominated in two preseason games and daily by that same crap dline. They can't run the ball at all. And Gase wants to run it a lot. That's why I think they end up with bushrod and turner at guard. Tunsil is a finesse tackle trying to play guard. In a team that wants to be run first, ball control, short passing game. Makes no sense.
They won six games last year. New coach. First four games are brutal. At Seattle, at NE, at Cincy. Home to Cleveland third. Then four straight at home when they are likely 1-3. They HAVE win week 5 vs Tennessee or wheels completely fall off. Pittsburgh, jets and buffalo.
I just don't see it.
Pittsburgh is a much better team than Houston and their offense is very tough to stop at home. I'd rather play Houston if I was a Miami fan and it's not close. We want Pittsburgh, right? Their offense can potentially put up big points, but Ajayi also already shredded them for 200+.
Sorry, I wrote that this morning thinking Baltimore still had a chance.Pittsburgh is a much better team than Houston and their offense is very tough to stop at home. I'd rather play Houston if I was a Miami fan and it's not close.
While I agree that Moore has done a good job, he looked atrocious in the first half against Buffalo and threw up a terrible pick at the end of the half that cost Miami 3 points.Congrats to all the Fins fans here!
Do you guys think a rusty or gimpy Tannehill is better than Moore at this point? Moore is one of the better backups in the league IMO and has been pretty decent these last two games.
Thanks. I actually deleted the question because I looked back and decided it might be kind of stupid. But this is a great answer. While I agree that Moore has done a good job, he looked atrocious in the first half against Buffalo and threw up a terrible pick at the end of the half that cost Miami 3 points.
It's decisions like that that make me think they go to Tannehill as soon as he's ready. I think we covered this before: Tannehill is an exceptionally athletic QB, but he doesn't rely on his athleticism to make plays like Russell Wilson does. He can make plenty of plays with his arm standing in the pocket.
Having basically a full month off does concern me a bit, but all reports are Tannehill has been in every meeting and has been a part of the game planning these last few weeks.
I would personally like to see him progress to the point of at least going through some drills or participating in practice at some point this week.
This is kind of where I'm at. If we can all agree that a deep playoff run is highly improbable and the season from here on out is a dress rehearsal for future Super Bowl contention, why not go ball's out for that 5 seed and keep going full bore 'til you can't? If that #5 wasn't on the table, I might feel different, but I don't think they should hold back next week. That said, keeping Ajayi's touches between 20 - 25 would seem to be prudent.YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME
No but seriously, Miami should try to win. Not only should they prefer the 5 seed, they have to beat good teams to do anything in the playoffs. Practice makes perfect.
For what it's worth, I was also one who more or less threw in the towel. Along with many others. In fairness to most of us, though, we never stopped watching. Thank goodness. This was fun to look back at.
A little background?Congrats to all Dolphins fans except GHoff
Here's a link to the video of Gase's press conference with the media this afternoon:You know how long Adam Gase spent talking about the Dolphins’ playoff berth with his team on Monday?
About as long as it took Jay Ajayi to burst 57 yards to set up Miami’s winning field goal in overtime against Buffalo.
In other words, a matter of seconds.
“He said congratulations; he got it in but didn’t stick on the topic at all,” guard Jermon Bushrod said.
Or, as safety Michael Thomas recalled, Gase said: “Congratulations, but we’re trying to win this game this week.”
After the obligatory acknowledgement for making the postseason, Gase said to his team what he traditionally has said this season: Focus on being 1-0 this week.
We know who we're playing, and we're playing a very good team who's as well coached as you can possibly get. A team that we lost to earlier in the season; that we'll have to bring our 'A game'.
I think our players are focused just on this week because they know exactly who we're playing, and this is absolutely a team that, if you look past them, they will embarrass you.
Jesus I just had a good laugh thinking about how hard Rex Ryan would be patting himself on the back if he did what Gase and Miami accomplished this season.Adam Gase is the anti-Rex Ryan.

He doesn't deserve it since he won't wear his Dolphins sweater to work.A little background?
Jesus I just had a good laugh thinking about how hard Rex Ryan would be patting himself on the back if he did what Gase and Miami accomplished this season.
Also keep in mind this team is now 4 wins better than 2015, and they're missing elite talent on both sides of the ball. Really remarkable what Gase has managed to do in his first season.
The only four games different between NE and MIA schedules was Fins played SD and Tennessee and NE twice and Pats played Denver and Houston and Miami twice. Who had the harder schedule?Great job by Gase to turn them around after a 1-4 start. But let's not forget the fact that they played a last place schedule this season.
They played two different teams than the Patriots and went 1-1 in those games. That is not the reason they had a successful season.Great job by Gase to turn them around after a 1-4 start. But let's not forget the fact that they played a last place schedule this season.
Regardless of all the positive signs that suggest Gase is going to be a really good coach in this league, I think this is a fair argument. Only time will tell. They are like plus four in point differential. Great year but like Bowles last year I think one year isn't nearly enough of a sample to know if Gase is a good coach or not.
KC is late game.Reality is Gase will play to win Sunday until his and KC results are determined.
As Patriot fans congratulate Fish fans, a fish fan reminds us why they were so fucking obnoxious until they finished ruining Marinos career. And Who knows, maybe Suh breaks Brady's fibula, Rivers finally wins a close game and Fish only need to get through Savage and Mcgloin and then Garrapolo...
Reality is Gase will play to win Sunday until his and KC results are determined. Then Leveon Bell goes for 350 all purpose yards in wild card game. I'm happiest for Cam Wake. I thought he was toast last year but guy still makes plays every week. His first playoff game at age 34
I think if CC was forced to be serious, he'd admit that he doesn't truly root for serious player injuries. As Patriot fans congratulate Fish fans, a fish fan reminds us why they were so fucking obnoxious until they finished ruining Marinos career.
16 and a baseball phrase cup of coffee, so 5-6 more years doesn't seem too greedy to me.I think if CC was forced to be serious, he'd admit that he doesn't truly root for serious player injuries.
I just want Brady to finally get old and start to suck. I mean, c'mon, it's been 17 years already!
I think I've used the "Suh is going to break Brady's leg joke roughly 40 times since they signed him to that absurd contract. Given every AFC QB sans smith, Ben and Brady have hurt their legs, seemed fitting to bring it back outAs Patriot fans congratulate Fish fans, a fish fan reminds us why they were so fucking obnoxious until they finished ruining Marinos career.
I hate your fishy face.I think I've used the "Suh is going to break Brady's leg joke roughly 40 times since they signed him to that absurd contract. Given every AFC QB sans smith, Ben and Brady have hurt their legs, seemed fitting to bring it back out

UDFA from the CFL under Parcells in 2009, he is only 3.5 sacks behind Demarcus Ware and nobody else.I'm happiest for Cam Wake. I thought he was toast last year but guy still makes plays every week. His first playoff game at age 34
I think some people scoffed and viewed Drake as a reach in the third round. He was basically a KR/backup RB his whole career at Alabama. I think he's been showing why Miami valued him so highly. The dude has absolutely elite game breaking speed. He's flashed it on returns and on long runs.I know Ajayi's been terrific this year, and D-Williams has been very solid in the backup role, but I'm a little surprised Drake's only had 29 rushing attempts and 9 receptions all season. Despite this, I'm expecting him to be a major contributor over the next few years, hopefully a la Vereen in '14 and '15.
Not necessarily disagreeing with you here, but it seems like it would be really tough to evaluate our running game in general based on that Buffalo game. That had to have been one of the worst displays of tackling by a team this year. That run he bounced back outside against Buffalo, it looked like at least two, maybe three Bills had angles to cut him off downfield, but he just turned on the jets and wouldn't be touched.
Same here and my decision wouldn't even be close. You never risk injuries in Week 17 to play for seeding. Most of your regulars are banged up anyway so aside from eliminating injury risk they get an extra week to recover to be at optimal strength in the playoffs. With such a low likelihood of the Chargers beating KC, Miami probably ought to be resting starters. Not sure what will happen, but that's what I'd do as a coach.
You realize this game means nothing, right? We already made the playoffs. Let the cloud of pessimism pass for just one week.Quaddus placed on IR, so now starting third string FS, a rookie off practice squad who's never played. Disaster.
Pats will run for 250 yards and throw for 350. lol
