Schefter confirms Tannehill won't play
Pretty much a foregone conclusion. I was hoping he would get on the practice field last week. This week he was on the field but not participating. I would say he's at least a week or two away from being capable of playing in a game.

Gase is making the right decision. This team's window is not this year and probably not next year. No need to sell out to prove something this year. Miami is playing with house money right now in 2016.

Kind of a surprise to me, pretty disappointing. He did a fine job on Brown in October. We're really going to need Vance to cook up something spectacular to mask the inexperience and lack of depth in the secondary.

Wind chills expected to be -10 to -15 at kickoff. Gusts to 30mph. The only positive about this is that it probably mutessteeler fans. You'd be crazy to attend a game in those conditions

Linemoved to 12.5 this am. Likely weather?
No, it's because people have been betting so heavily in favor of the Steelers at +10/10.5.

Not much favoring Miami in this one, but Ladarius Green being inactive doesn't hurt.

Which team will run the ball most effectively? With today's weather, that (and turnovers) could be the 2 biggest factors. Of course, Miami's sucked at stopping the run all year, the Pitt game earlier this year being the rare exception. (Not coincidentally, Reshad Jones also played in that game.)

Last week vs. New England, up until the end of the 3rd quarter, Miami ran on almost every 1st down. (It really might have been every 1st down.) I'm not sure what the throwing conditions will end up being today, but I'm hoping for a little more Gase magic for this match-up.

I think a Dolphin win would serve as a gigantic upset at this point. Ajayi might have to have a Lamar Smith type playoff moment.

Miami has faced Bell, David Johnson, Melvin Gordon, and Shady McCoy twice. Those teams were a combined 0-5 against Miami this year.

The thought that a dominant running back beating Miami has been proven to be a myth. They might give up a fair share of yards, but a dominant running back hasn't beaten Miami all season.

In fairness, that 1st Shady McCoy game was more like Shady lite. Rex played him despite his health status, and he left the game after 11 yards on 8 carries due to the injury. But aside from McCoy's revenge game a few weeks back, you're right -- none of the other premier backs had big games. With Bell, one could argue that the issue was opportunity, as LV only received 10 carries for 53 yards. But vs. DJ (20/80) and Gordon (24/70), Miami's run defense held up well.

I'm most disappointed in Maxwell not suiting up in this game. With last week off, I figured he'd be ready to go.

He's been out since the first series of the Jets game. It's odd because it didn't look like anything serious when it happened.

I honestly would rather take my chances with a healthy Howard and Lippet trying to stop Brown than a gimpy Maxwell.

I'm just disappointed he's not back at 100%. I know it's impossible to gage the extent of a player injury through one's television set, but I thought it looked minor at the time, also. Add the fact that it was reported that he was close to playing last weekend, and it makes this week's status all the more surprising.

I'm gonna concur with this - they're giving up 140 yards on the ground per game this season. Bell ain't beating this team by himself on the ground. If they lose today it's going to be because the secondary gets exposed and/or the offense gives a patented 30 minute effort.

Dammit. I've got a bet going with a friend and I only took +11.5.

Thanks for posting those Lamar Smith playoff highlights. Great Dolphins moment, but unbelievable how long ago that was.

No illusions about Miami's chances today. Do whatever it takes to maintain possession and keep the scoring down and maybe a few lucky bounces, tips, and wind gusts will give us a fighting chance.

If not, hopefully we can all finally enjoy a genuine sense of optimism this offseason.

Let's get it, boys. We're playing with house money at this point. Let's all try not to jump off a collective bridge if things go south.

Brutal turnover there at the end of the half.

That said, this team has been one of the best second half teams in the league. Got em right where we want them? Haha

Incredibly physical game going pretty much according to script. Bell's patience is a thing to behold.

Can't wait to see the Dolphins address their defensive needs this offseason. This game certainly confirmed those.

Dolphins headed in a worryingly right-ish direction. Gase a keeper. WRs dangerous. Congrats on a good season.

Edit GASE, not game. Fucking haaaaaaaaaaate autocorrect.

Off-season needs (no particular order):
Defense tackle
Defensive end
Two linebackers
Safety
Guard/center
Resign stills
Restructure Suh

That caroo trade hurts. Lost a pick in this draft.

The good news is the players have bought into Gase and I suspect this will be a positive offseason. And, they need to replace Vance Joseph. Big hire.

I thought Tannehill had poor pocket presence, but holy shit. Even when Moore saw players coming right at him, he still felt the need to hold the football like a loaf of fucking bread.

Good season fish. Hope you lose any game you play against New England next year!

This whole squabble aside, the NE fans on this site have been much-improved in their contributions to this thread over the last season or two. There's some terse exchanges every so often, but it's mostly in fun; and opinions are expressed respectfully. I think I ended up liking Soxfan(131?) eventually, but, man, did he and others produce/facilitate some douchebaggery commentary prior to that.

Anyway, to all you Pats' fans who wander in here, thanks for lowering the pedestal to a more tolerable level this year. It really has been noticed and appreciated.

Now, hopefully Tom tears his ACL while jumping on the bed with his wife and several of her supermodel friends this off-season.

(Just kidding.)

Cut the shit, KFP.

I have a feeling Soden will not be trolling in the future (gamethreads excepted) just like you are going to stop right now.

It's been reported that Miami will release Brandon Albert, saving 7.2 million.

My love for this current staff continues to grow with every move. The team's lack of durability on the O-line has been an ongoing issue, and unfortunately, Albert greatly contributed to that. Towards the end of the year, even when he was on the field, he was average. It makes a lot more sense to slide Tunsil to T, benefit from his bargain salary at the moment, and address the interior line, in addition to other areas of need.

Mario Williams out as well; it's time to get rid of the last round of overpaid free agents.

Who will be the new overpaid free agents you folks cut in three years?

This is the fear of any Tannenbaum-lead FO, right? I think this year's moves will indicate who's truly in charge -- the Chris Grier/Gase combo or Mikey? Hoping for the former.

Albert will be a post June 1 cut and save $8.9m

My guess is they'll use FA to fix LB and draft DL, DB and OL. They'll need like 2-3 more picks than they have to really add depth.

Williams was always a band-aid solution. I still like the idea of signing Williams and a guy like Branch, who they are looking to resign this offseason, as opposed to shelling out mega-star dollar to Olivier Vernon.

I think largely, the FO got the decisions right more than wrong last year:

  • Letting Lamar Miller walk lead to the emergence of Jay Ajayi, who surpassed 1000 yards and was a Pro Bowler after playing sporadically the first 6 weeks.
  • Letting OV walk and signing band-aids in WIlliams and Branch was the right choice. Branch played above expectations and Miami will attempt to resign him.
  • Trading with the Eagles and netting Kiko Alonso, Byron Maxwell and Laremy Tunsil is a massive win. Alonso and Maxwell both looked resurgent in Miami and Tunsil is likely the franchise LT for the next 10 years.
Tannebaum has repeatedly said Miami is making "keeping their own" a top priority for the organization. What does that mean? Jarvis Landry, Reshad Jones, Kenny Stills, and Andre Branch are the priority over other potential free agents. Kiko Alonso may receive an extension. Miami reportedly wants to keep Dion Sims, an upcoming FA, and compliment him with a pass catching TE.

I wouldn't expect Miami to go out and sign any big name guys this year. They're looking to free up space and keep the guys that they know are a fit with this system and coaching staff.

It's been reported that Miami will release Brandon Albert, saving 7.2 million.
One of the reasons Miami was really smart in taking Tunsil is the fragility of Branden Albert. The guy flat out has a hard time staying on the field. Selecting a guy that is a prototypical LT when he falls into your lap as an insurance policy for your often injured LT who is also on the wrong side of 30 is a wise move. Still very happy Miami pulled the trigger on Tunsil.

It's also far, far easier find a LG in the second or third round as opposed to a franchise LT. Miami is set up for sustained success along the o-line if they can keep Pouncey on the field with Tunsil and James.

In regards to the draft, I've seen several mocks with Miami selecting Njoku or Howard at TE in the first round. I would love, love, love to see an athletic freak like Njoku in Gase's offense. I think Gase would turn him into a star. I know Miami has huge holes on the defense, LB and DE being two glaring needs, but TE might be third on that list behind them. Gase's system thrives on having an athletic, pass catching TE, and Miami never got that element rolling with Cameron being scrambled eggs and Sims being more of an in-line blocking TE.

I wouldn't be mad if Miami selected a pass rusher or a LB in the first, but I'm secretly pulling hard for Njoku or Howard, my preference in that order.
