The Rams' first play of the game today was a KR fumble inside their own 5. You can't even make this stuff up anymore. Huge potential opportunity for an organization/city and you give the keys to Jeff Fisher.

Even the tone deaf Kroenke could not have the new LA 'fans' watching this shit show. Snead has to go next. Besides Brockers, they got very little out of the RG III trade bonanza.

The Rams are playing Thursday as well. Was this done now just to prevent him from setting the all time loss record?

Wow, stunned it took that long really.

Moving forward, the Rams have a QB that looks like a high school junior in terms of physical stature and competency. An all world talent at RB that they'll run into the ground. A contract extension for Tavon Austin. And a new stadium being built that will make the San Fran stadium deal look like a winner.

Is it too late for LA to send the Rams back to St. Louis? Have they torn the stadium down yet?

So they signed him to a 2-year extension then fired him a week later?

In all seriousness, is this where Josh McDaniels goes? I know the organization looks like a dumpster fire, but they do have some elite talent and I think McDaniels can find a way to get Gurley involved that doesn't include him running 3 yards and getting tackled 25 times a game.

The obvious negatives are you have to commit to Jared Goff, who you may or may not like tying your boat to, and you don't have a 2017 first or third rounder.

Gregg Williams would be the smart choice, which means it will be someone else.
I'm hoping it's Donna Ellis. But it's probably McGinnis. Outside shot at John Fassel since 90% of the roster should be familiar with him. A lot of nepotism on that coaching roster.

They play in under 80 hours, so this should be fun.

Is he automatically off? (I know what the answer should be, but as Summerall and Brookshier used to say each week, "THIS is the NFL.")
He was off the Committee before this season started. The excuse was that with the team moving end such he would be too busy.

Fassel has an awesome wikipedia page. This is the entire thing:

John Fassel (born January 10, 1974) is an American football coach who is the interim head coach for the Los Angeles Rams of the National Football League (NFL).[1]

He is the son of coach Jim Fassel.[2]

On January 31, 2012 it was announced that he would be the special teams coach of the St. Louis Rams. On July 26, 2015 he went into the ocean to save a drowning surfer.[3]

On December 12, 2016, Fassel was announced as the interim head coach for the Los Angeles Rams, after the firing of Jeff Fisher. [4]

It's Football Outsiders stuff, and as much as I respect them, take this with the necessary grains of salt. All stats listed are prior to Week 14 games.

How has LA's special teams done this year under Fassel? Well, as it turns out, that's almost the only thing they've really been solid and consistently good this season**. They're 2nd in ST DVOA this year at 8.0%, only behind Philly's 8.5%.

Should be said, most of that roots from Johnny Hekker, the best punter in the league by far. More specifically, he's 21.4% better than the average (baseline) punter, by far tops in the league, even with a -1.6 points (19th) on ST, with respect to matters out of their control, such as opposing field goals, kickoff distance, and punt distance. When this number is weather, altitude, and dome adjusted, it becomes +3.1 points estimated, 17th in the NFL. For further context on Hekker though: Only one other punter is above 10.0%, Detroit's Sam Martin, at 10.3%.

**That, and well, tackling the RB at or behind the LOS. Going into this week, they were at 29% at doing so, which leads the NFL, lead by ROLB Michael Brockers, allowing only 2.14 Adjusted Line Yards (ALY) through his side/RGs, tops amongst ROLB, 5th among all NFL defensive lineman.

I hope he gets an interim job somewhere so he can set the record that he deserves to stand alone with.
Yeah, but isn't he 7 or 8 wins over 500; my suggestion is just retire already as if he signs on somewhere else, he'll be sub 500 in no time.

Always best to go out on a high note.

Glad to see this asshole gone. Although I would have liked to see him break the all time loser record before he got fired.

Local radio speculating that the players knew of the clause in Fisher's contract that Rams don't have to pay out years unless a certain win threshold was met, and ensured that would not happen.

My first reaction was that Fisher got fired for inexcusably calling that Goff keeper play at the goalline yesterday. Upon further reflection, however, I wonder if the recent reports about his contract extension came from his camp, rather than the Rams' FO, and ownership was pissed about it.

I actually think it's a great place for him to go. It wasn't like the Rams went out on a limb with Goff, and I suspect with some QB whispering (and, oh yeah, an OL and some WRs who can catch) he'll be someone to build around. Gurley is a stud if they don't kill him, and the defense and special teams are already quite good.

Really aside from the OL the worst thing about this team was Fisher -- just an awful coach.

I think he got fired for being awful, but you're not wrong that the obviously very political leak probably sped up his demise. That was egregious.
