They've got an interesting story in Stedman Bailey if he's in camp. Even if his speed and agility come back, it is doubtful he'll ever play again due to the fact that he suffered head trauma. If he's in camp, it will be an interesting thing to follow.

Eh, I doubt it is that simple. I mean, in 2014, the Rams and NFL had about fifty billion reasons to make sure the Rams were no more popular and visible among their other franchises - given the shenanigans of the past year - than others. So, while linking things to Michael Sam makes the League look bad, I highly doubt there's any kind of hard proof of that assertion and even less direct reason.

The NFL and Kroenke had been plotting to move the Rams for a long time before 2014 and everything should be viewed through that lens.

Like, does Balzer have a memo? Or anything? Tweeting is easy, proving it would be somewhat harder. But if any fanbase is going to side against the League - and with St. Louis/Missouri fans - it is us, right?

The Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams agreed to terms on a trade that would see Tennessee trade the number one overall pick, along with their fourth round (113 overall) and sixth round (177 overall) picks this year to the Rams, in exchange for the Rams first round pick (15), two second round (43 and 45) selections and third round (76) pick in 2016; along with the Rams first round pick and third round picks in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Titans now own nine selections in the 2016 Draft, including six of the top 76 picks in the draft.

Is this the most immediately laughable trade in recent NFL history?

Wow. Two firsts, two seconds, and a third for the number one pick, a fourth, and a sixth. And all to pick (I'm guessing) Wentz? Again...wow.

The Rams built that defense by hosing the Redskins during the RGIII trade and then turn around and do this. Tickets are going to sell in LA no matter what, Carson Wentz is going to pack your stadium.

I'm rooting so hard for the guys that the Titans get with these picks for no other reason than for them to be made honorary captains the first time they play the Rams.

That's a franchise-altering trade in a positive way.
They have the franchise QB, they have good weapons on offense, so they can use the picks to build the trenches and add playmakers on defense...so long as they don't butcher the picks they're in a position to be a much better football team going forward.

That would be a really tough division if Houston could just get even competent QB play. Tenn lucks to have their franchise QB, Bortles was sneaky good last year and Luck should not be bleeding internally this year.
As always I will celebrate anything that is bad for the Colts.

Wow, this was right out of "Draft Day", now I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and all the picks to come back...

Great, great trade for the Titans - it will be fun to watch Mariota with additional talent on both sides of the ball. Now just draft smart... wish this team was in the NFC now.

Tenn gets:
2016: 1st, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd,
2017: 1st, 3rd

Rams get:
2016: 1st, 4th, 6th

I'd make that trade everyday.

If I'm a Titans fan I'm absolutely ecstatic this morning.
As a Titans fan, I couldn't be happier.

Re-hiring Mularkey did make me feel close to giving up on the team, in the vein of the Sports Team Apostasy thread from a few months back, but this trade has just turned the outlook around for the team completely. Absolutely delighted.

That would be interesting -- though since they are QB hunting, and moving, maybe the charts go out the window.

14 places in the first round is an expensive move. Reportedly,

"It is almost a guarantee that the Rams will end up with either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff. NFL Media's Albert Breer reports the Rams already have conducted on-campus workouts with both QBs. They likely made the move fearing that the quarterback-needy Browns would take their preferred choice at No. 2."

Titans are happy with Marcus, which I get, and this really gives them a lot of ammo to build the team.

One can only imagine what the cost would have been with a consensus top-of-the-first-round QB in this draft.

Holy Jesus.

Tenn gets:
2016: 1st #15 - 1050
2016: 2nd #43 - 470
2016: 2nd #45 - 450
2016: 3rd #76 - 210
2017: 1st ~#18 - 900 (estimate)
2017: 3rd ~#82 - 180 (estimate)
total: 3260

Rams get:
2016: 1st #1 - 3000
2016: 4th #113 - 68
2016: 6th #177 - 20.6
total: 3088.6

What does it mean? Not much. Doesn't seem hugely lopsided by the chart alone, about the difference of a mid 3rd round pick. The better then Rams do in 2016-2017, the better the trade is for them, too.

Funny, they probably have a 3rd rounder coming their way for losing Janoris Jenkins in 2017.

This trade is not the "dumbest" in history. Rams need to get a QB as they move into LA. They have a competitive defense. They needed to take a gamble. Sure if I were the Titans that's a trade you make every day, but that's only because they have Mariota and don't "need" the #1 pick.

All bets are off if they pick Wentz instead of Goff, IMHO.

Wow, alot of people in my home state will be happy to hear this. A kid from Bismarck, ND is going to be the #1 draft pick.
A lot of people won't be happy once they realize they're now going to get every Titans game instead of the best games of the week.

I don't know squat about the top 2 QBs and whether or not both have a legitimate claim as the top guy, but my initial response was to think the Rams should immediately call the Browns*, recoup a bunch of the draft value they just shipped out and draft the second guy at #2.

*Assuming that in all situations, the Browns are gonna Brown.

I question these estimates:

2017: 3rd ~#82 - 180 (estimate)
You assume they start the rookie QB. They are going to get better?

They are now slotted 15. It does not take a great leap to assume that the Titans may pocket a top 10 pick - and if the kid really struggles, maybe better.

Third-rounder does not matter very much, but the first-rounder obviously does.

Yeah that 1st rounder next year is likely to be top 10 again. The Rams are going to be worse. This trade has the potential to cripple them for 5 years.

I thought about that a bit, and originally had them slotted in 2017 at their respective 2016 draft spots. Then I figured they are likely to improve on 7-9. So I gave them one more win, and a respectable 8-8 record. Do we all think that 8-8 is unrealistic?

Given Jeff Fisher's history, 8-8 is probably the most likely outcome. Any year. No matter what team.

The Rams will have a competitive defense in 2016 and a rookie QB. Will they still have a competitive defense in 2017 or 2018 when their shiny new QB is broken in and entering his prime NFL years? I'm no expert on the contact details of the Rams defense but it's a reasonable guess that they won't be resigning or extending everyone that makes their defense competitive. And how can they both restock the D and improve their offensive weapons for their new QB at the same time?

Hell, I was just looking at that D and add in Gurley with the rock all year and the fact the Foles-Keenum combo isnt any better than the QB they are about to draft.

This gave the Rams the third toughest schedule of 32 for 2016 based on last year's winning percentages:

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25485818/nfl-strength-of-schedule-49ers-falcons-at-no-1-packers-at-no-32

(I know, tough to assume year-to-year with these teams, but it's a least a rough measure).

Then the question becomes whether the Rams have the fortitude to stick with whoever is drafted the whole year, and what the back-up can give them if they don't.

I figure they will get a mulligan for their first year in a new town, so the kid will probably play as along as he is healthy -- unless he clearly is not up to it (which could mark the trade a disaster in any case).

If one assumes 16 games and ordinary first-year struggles, they probably figure to be worse.

As a Seahawks fan, I am happy as hell. Good to see they learned nothing from the RGIII deal.

Goff will have a big year next year, tear up his knee in the playoffs and get released 3 years later after contributing nothing.

Fisher has five 8-8 seasons and four 7-9 seasons, with a 7-8-1 season throw in for good measure. His average wins per season over his 21 seasons is 8.04 wins. But he was 2 feet from a Lombardi, so he's got that going for him.

Correction, 2 feet from sending the game to OT

Any QB experts in the house?

If Carson Wentz or Jared Goff, the reported targets, are worth this, what would JG be worth had he been in this year's draft? Less, the same, more? By how much?
