I'm responsible for Manning's decline. I drove all the way from Los Angeles to Denver in late December to let my dogs poop on the grounds of Sports Authority Field. It worked.

If another quarterback had seven touchdowns, 10 interceptions, a paltry 6.4 yards per attempt (that's tied for 34th in the NFL among all players with at least 35 pass attempts), a 72.5 rating (dead last among NFL starting quarterbacks) and three pick-sixes, it would be a foregone conclusion that we'd be discussing a quarterback change.

Yeah Osweiler is very likely sub-starter material in the NFL. It's hard to really say, though, because he's never really gotten any playing time and his work on preseason games came with the second/third strings and against vanilla defenses.mt8thsw9th said:You don't need to follow them weekly to know that they'd have to go outside the organization to find a solution at QB. Osweiler is the definition of a JAG.

manning unless he keeps getting 3 to a game will lose in round 1 to the JETS or pitt mccown would give Denver a fair shot to at least go to the AFCGC

Oz is in his fourth season. If he's capable of being a top 10-12 QB then he should be at least as good as McCown today (particularly since he knows the system).
Plus he's not 36 years old, so he's got that going for him, which is nice.Shelterdog said:

We should assume he's somewhat been paying attention during camp and practices since Kubiak got hired, no?soxfan121 said:Would apply if Kubiak had been there for four years.
Does apply because he's been there the entire offseason.soxfan121 said:

oz is going to have to get 16-20 starts in before he can be a top 10 12 qb the good thing about oz is he wouild throw the ball to more than 2 wrShelterdog said:

yeah kubiak wants his system but that does not work for manning if i was kubiak i wouild gut my system just for this season as long as manning does not come back next year but denver needs a star 1-cut back anderson does not fit and hillman is a backupsoxfan121 said:
Which system are we talking about? The pistol-Manning iteration of the Kubiak scheme? The installed-in-the-offseason Kubiak offense? The Gase-Manning system, which he had multiple (off) seasons in?
The Broncos are a mess, partially because of Manning's declining skills and partially because Kubiak's preferred system is being overwritten on the fly in its first season of use. And because it is in its first season, players don't know it well enough to be improvising off it.

The Brock Orsweiler who has passed for a total of 159 yards and 1 TD in his career, and taken 2 sacks on 30 attempts.
In garbage time.
That's the guy that you are confident will be a top 10 QB.
I mean, I know "the most popular guy on the team is the backup QB" is a cliche, but wow.

That's not how I read the post. I think j-man meant that it would take Orsweiler 16 to 20 starts to get to the level of a top 10 QB, but that McCown might be able to play for this Denver team now and play at the level of a top 10 QB. I think this thought is mostly based on the talent of the receivers.
This is why you are not a GM. A first for Mccown? i tollany understand your point but u do not waste this 1 every 50 years def on a end of the road manning because the way manning is playing any playoff def is gonna to make him look like 99 marinoOld Fart Tree said:This is why you are not a GM. A first for Mccown? Sheesh.
I think he means for any given franchise. It's probably a slight exaggeration, but not that much. The defense there is loaded.Marciano490 said:1 every 50 years? This is a better defense than the Seahawks the last couple years, the SB Ravens and the 86 Bears?

Seems legit.

I think he has a point, but so does Spike. Elway has set this team up well for the next few years. That Harris Jr. contract was thievery.
As for Manning, if it was possible to put all the politics aside, Denver probably would be looking around for a QB, and, honestly, McCown is probably the best option available. Now a first rounder is way, way too much, but the thought process itself is quite rational. The alternative, of course, is that Osweiller could just step in, but we have to speculate there since we have so little on which to base a decision.

I'd take McCown over Manning right now for sure. McCown is 36 himself, though. Kinda crazy.

His dead cap hit is only $2.5M, though. So if he doesn't retire, they can still still a pretty good chunk ($19M) by cutting him.j-man said:manning does not come off the books utnail 2017 we can cut clady LG S smith and save 10 mil that way
true but the ball its in manning court because if u cut him we go from 13-3 12-4 to 8-8 7-9 overnight but if u keep him he might get hurt ny will no oz as backupPapelbon's Poutine said:His dead cap hit is only $2.5M, though. You stated earlier that Mccown is a better option at this point. I don't see how Manning is helping win games. There are comparable players available through trade or FA for a hell of a lot less than $19M. I see no way Manning is a bronco next year but you know the team better than I do. I'll be shocked if he's playing at all. He's got one foot into Willie Mays Mets territory.j-man said:true but the ball its in manning court because if u cut him we go from 13-3 12-4 to 8-8 7-9 overnight but if u keep him he might get hurt ny will no oz as backup
