MYRTLE BEACH!!!!
Pitt's stadium design is so poor - the cameras are up above the student section side, such that they stare right at a bunch of old people sitting down next to the court, and then some weird windows/inside box seats that are behind sliding glass doors?  Just odd, and atmosphere appears dead even though it's not at all.

I never understood that. When they show the other angle you can see the student bowl everywhere else. But from that angle, it looks like they added a bowling alley.

Someone should do bubble captions for each persons face and put in what they are thinking.

The blonde near the L is staring at his dick, the asian girl looks like she could kill him, and the girl next to her is clearly thinking about her next meal....pizza or wings? Some interesting things going on there.

Tar Heels are in Atlanta where nobody can get around but the game is going on as scheduled.  We'll see if anybody's there besides the two teams, the refs, and the announcers.

True, but way, way better teams than the 13-14 Tar Heels have lost in Atlanta.  I thought it was a good win, especially given the weird travel. Now they have a chance to get to .500 in the conference, and beyond  that, they have a chance to get on a little run before February 12.

Throwback unis for UNC & Duke (among others).  Tar Heels are wearing theirs for their home game against Wake.

I'm pretty encouraged by last night's game with the fact that they continued to battle even after Parker and Jefferson went out.  Clearly undersized, but Sulaimon and Dawkins stepped up and made some big shots for this team.  This is the type of game that will pay dividends in a couple months, but the lack of interior depth is a problem against bigger teams.  I'm still waiting for Cook to take his game up consistently, but he may simply be what he is at this point, even though the talent is there for him to be an elite player.

Duke continues improving, but they are masking an emerging problem: Quinn Cook.  Last night they went to a likeup of Sulaimon, Dawkins, Hood, Parker, Jefferson for some stretches.  Cook can be a disruptive defensive player, but more often than not, he is getting blown by in halfcourt sets (I don't have time to look at Synergy data right now to add numbers).  He also isn't playing all that well offensively, which is a huge issue if your D is lacking.  More than anything, he is a junior PG who is still too inconsistent to lead a team to a title, which is why I think Coach K may start using Sheed at the point more often moving forward.  Sulaimon is MUCH better at dribble penetration/passing, a longer and more athletic defender, and better shooter.  Against teams that press and pressure the ball, Quinn will be needed.   The Gardner-Webb game is a perfect example of his inconsistency.  He had (IIRC) 11 Pts, 9 Ast in the first 14:30.  The rest of the game: 5 Pts, 0 Ast.  Michigan game he had 0 Pts at half, 24 in 2nd half.  While it's great to be able to explode like that, you're a veteran PG, you need to play at a high level for full games a lot more often.

I think Duke has all the talent to be a Final Four team, and if they play with the effort they have since Clemson, they will be a tough out in March.  But the longer Cook goes without showing long stretches of steady (not even dominant) play, the more I think he will cost them a shot at a deep tournament run.  I don't mean to attack Quinn, he is the emotional leader of this team right now, and it's not easy being a PG for Coach K, he demands a lot.  But Quinn's play has to improve in February, epsecially at the defensive end.

Apparently the pollsters were watching last week. Jump from 17th to 11th despite the loss.
well deserved.  No way Duke was only the 17th best team in the country.

Figured this was as  good a time as any to solicit thoughts on Virginia as they've finally breached the top 25 again.  After a so-so non coference performance, they've quietly had arguably the most impressive in-conference run thus far of any ACC team.  8-1 with the one being a loss at Cameron when they came back from an 11 point deficit to take the lead only to lose on a more ridiculous three than the one that sent the Duke-Cuse game to OT.  They have a 16 point margin of victory over conference foes, and they're top five defensive team nationally.  There was a lot of sleeper buzz that went away after a few bad losses earlier in the year, but I'm wondering if you guys feel this recent stretch has elevated UVA to contender status for the ACC title.

I mean, they're a contender as they're in 2nd place with only 1 loss.

Also, the ACC title is by definition the winner of the ACC tournament, and they obviously have a shot there.

Miami looked like world beaters last year and then the NCAA tournament happened...

Yep, classes aren't being held today at UNC.

But that's just because it's a Wednesday.

It briefly got chippy in Chapel Hill Tuesday night.

Every season, the night before Duke and North Carolina play, the team's managers stage a scrimmage at at the same venue where the varsity fellas continue the rivalry. On Tuesday night, an elbow following a rebound led to a small fight on the hardwood. According to Duke's student newspaper -- which had a great gamer on the matchup -- Drew Goldstein was the manager on the wrong side of the elbow.

Duke-Carolina remains the most popular and intriguing sport nationally -- in terms of gambling. A report from Covers.com Tuesday stated that the game regularly sees thrice as much action than any other regular-season college hoops tilt.

Game will NOT be played tomorrow.  TBD.

and yes the weather sucks right now but if Duke had left this morning, they could have made it easily - the snow didn't start until noon.  Coach K must not read a weather forecast.

Where are they going to go for the whole day?  Spend the day in the gym?

UNC managed to get to Atlanta in the great icepocalypse two weeks ago where the entire city was shut down and they played the game.

to answer your question from the other thread - I dunno, just drive the eight miles back?  Put the officials in one of Chapel Hill's or the Research Triangle's hotels?

The only place I've seen it bad is Raleigh, not Durham.  Not a lick of red on this traffic map in Durham - https://maps.google.com/maps?q=durham+traffic&ll=35.982035,-78.888359&spn=0.104598,0.209255&safe=off&hnear=Durham,+North+Carolina&gl=us&layer=t&t=m&z=13 - or on the Duke side of Durham in this one posted in the weather thread at 7 - http://s.imwx.com/dru/2014/02/de281618-671a-49d8-960c-583e089318c4_650x366.jpg

And we both know the Dean Dome is perfectly loud for Duke games, blue hairs in the lower bowl or not.  The only reason I am "mad" is because it put both teams in a scheduling quandary, and it was your side that caused all of it with poor planning.

Yes, dear, surely Duke purposefully avoided this game so they could....play it 48 hours before Syracuse.

Again, nobody to blame for that but your own coach and logistics staff.  Duke cancelled classes at 9:55 AM, so Mike and the staff had 11 hours to get his team eight miles and couldn't do it - bus, SUVs, walk, couldn't do it (the Pitt women's team, during the same time frame, managed to get from the Raleigh airport, where it was really terrible, to Chapel Hill).

Yes, maybe spending most of the day in Chapel Hill wouldn't have been exactly normal routine, but North Carolina seemed to handle a far-less-than-routine schedule and travel at Georgia Tech and managed to even win the game.

Being impartial to this whole Duke/UNC battle, I think officials were concerned about the fans getting home safely after the game.  Neither team wanted this cancelled, both squads are playing their best ball of the year and now their schedules are not ideal.

Then again its not the worst thing to have a few games in a few days, it will be good preparation for tournament time.

The fans getting home reasoning would fly if the game was cancelled at 1 or 2, not 6.  By then everybody was either en route or already there, especially given much of the crowd was going to be UNC students.

These two things cannot exist together.  Either the crowd was already there, OR the crowd was not showing up and thus it was going to be students.

I think the $40 courtside seats on stub hub in the early afternoon shows that no one was planning to go.

Well, except for twice last year, the second of which resulted in Duke to Louisvilles bracket, which sucked.
