Another one of those crazy long, almost deferred money type deals. 25M/season isn't a surprise but probably 3-4 more years than anyone thought. Almost got the Turner contract....

That's a lot of money for Xander but this one still really stings.

So I guess the whole “The Red Sox are about to ink Xander” buzz today was leverage to get the Pads to up their offer.

As I said in the Trea Turner thread, neither player is going to play 11 years. This is a lifetime contract with the years serving to depress the real AAV. It's the total dollars (and NPV) that are most relevant, not years.

That is a heck of a contract. None of us was really close to that. I guess $26m per year is where we were generally but not for 11 years.

Not sure what to say. Good for him. Sucks for us.

Crap. Can certainly see why the Sox didn’t want to go 11 years. That’s ridiculous for a 31 yo. But I agree with others. Hard not to think that the Sox got to a point this week that would have sealed the deal before X opted out. Failure to foresee where this market would go.

He is a Boras client, he wasn’t gonna test FA?

If they do turn to Correa, it will be for a contract larger than what Bogey got

Why aren't they going to play 11 years? When has a player ever retired leaving that much money on the table?

Xander was my favorite player since Ortiz retired, but going 11 years is insane. Would not have wanted Sox to match

Guess the owners can save money on that Cora flight to see Xander.

Right. Maybe like two years ago you buy out his last two years plus add 5 to 7 and you get a discount but once he was close to free agency this is what Boras does. He gets you 11/280. That’s why you sign with him.
