Wow. If Kerr comes back healthy & in form - if, if, if - the confidence her teammates have built up could push this squad right over the top.

LOL. That was a nice control & dribble under pressure, but the pass to no one…

Madness from Lauren James. That’s 2 games for the straight red? The Beckham parallel is eerie. And I don’t think the English press will be any kinder to her just because England managed to squeak by.

Morocco is the last hope for the Revenge of the Colonies.

It's one game for a red, but FIFA has the ability to extend it to up to 3.

your halves must not get on so well.
I've basically grown up going to Norway every few years my whole life.. and only been to Sweden once. My family being removed from Sweden for two generations vs. my mom being Norwegian probably has eased any conflict between my two sides.

Oye Oye Oye!

That coach can coach. Team in sync. Can USA hire him? (Already worked with the team under Pia)

Thought the second one might’ve been ruled out for offside by the person right in front on the goalkeeper.

This is looking like France can score at will unless Morocco tightens up its defense.
Coming from a group with Brazil, Jamaica (who advanced at expense of Brazil) and Panama, it's possible Morocco is actually the worst team France has faced thus far. Morocco miraculously beat Colombia in the group, and also beat South Korea (who of course ultimately booted Germany with a draw), both 1-0. But in the one game where Germany was clicking, they crushed Morocco 6-0. Their defense is porous against an even semi-conherent attack.

In retrospect, our best colonial-revenge-tour hope was clearly Nigeria. South Africa had a legitimate chance, but blew threat after threat while the Dutch converted their only 2 real chances of the game, so really that was experience and poise winning out. Nigeria, on the other hand, who were sharing hotel beds, almost knocked out the current WC favorite. One of the great stories of this cup, which will get buried behind Colombia's success and the beauty of how Japan plays, but deserves mention alongside that.

Quarterfinals-and-after schedule in Eastern Time, for those of us who didn't want to look it up and squint:

9:00pm Fri 8/11: Spain vs Netherlands (this evening slot was to have been the USA, if we'd won our group and then our R16)
3:30am Sat 8/12: Sweden vs Japan
3:00am Sun 8/13: Australia vs France
6:30am Sun 8/13: England vs Colombia

4:00am Tue 8/15: SF1 (winner of top 2 QFs)
6:00am Wed 8/16: SF2 (winner of bottom 2 QFs)

4:00am Sat 8/19: 3rd Place
6:00am Sun 8/20: Final

I'll probably watch tomorrow night and the 6am starts. I will regret not watching Sweden vs Japan, and especially the Spain vs Japan rematch, but I'll live.

L. James gets two games in total for the red card. Kinda thought it would just be a game.
You aren’t just going to get just 1 game for a straight red for violent conduct. I was actually expecting 3. She’ll be available for the final if England make it.

Spain are looking very slick, but given how they can fall into stale possession, they may rue those 2 posts.

Was just about to ask why Roord was coming off - she’s been the NL’s best goalscorer.

But then that great thru ball…a clear push in the back…and a VAR overturn. What?

That’s a bad handball. Def a yellow, let’s see if it’s in the box.

I think it is. Thats madness from the defender.
