I love Tatum, but if I was starting an NBA team, I’d take Doncic first, but barely. Hopefully, these two will 21st century Magic-Bird the NBA finals some day soon

He has the Bird/Magic thing where he brings his team up. He has more experience dealing with double team, etc, despite age difference than Tatum.

You are running an expansion franchise and get to draft anyone in the NBA, but you have to take on their contract. Age is in play...everything. Who are you taking?

Is Doncic your pick? Tatum? Kawhi? Giannis?

You are correct Tatum has trained like a pro since he was 13, but Luka was a pro at that age. I expect the only thing that Tatum doesn’t do exceptionally well, setting up others, will be a another strong point in his game in a couple of years. We see signs of it now.

Putting Reggie Jackson on Luka Doncic is a fireable Offense
Yeah I don't get this. LAC was finally having success having Jackson show and then slip out of the matchup down teh 4Q stretch. Then Jackson for some reason doesn't or can't or won't or whatever slip out of the matchup not once but twice, and Doncic buries two 3s to win it.

Headscratching.

Also headscratching why KL, who is getting wherever he wants, decides that the shot he is going to take is a contested 22 footer.

I only saw the 2H and OT and best game of this season (outside of Cs).

It’s a testament to how good Luka is that the Hawks could get a very good young player in Trae plus another lotto talent and still come out of that trade looking like they made a massive blunder.

As an aside, Breen is a dork and it’s easy to get on his case but the double-tap on that call was great. I have softened on him over the years as it became clearer that Jackson is really the guy that has dragged that booth down.

That shot gets Luka up to 1A Alpha status. No idea why they didn't double him. Can't let him beat you like that.
Bad Playoff George returning didn't help Doc much.

I hate accusations of choking, but...that layup George missed really looked bad.

Here
Tatum has turned himself into a good defender, with potential to be great. If Tatum becomes Kahwi and Luka becomes Harden, give me Tatum.

The mavericks are a lay up line on defense. The fact that pg hasnt figured that out in 4 games tells you how smart of a player he is.

How do you not staple Kawhi to Luka on that last play?
Right? One of those...they know more basketball in their little finger than I have in my brain, but....it seems impossible to me. Or Paul George for that matter. But...Reggie Jackson?

Once you get past the Twitter hot takes on George it seems as if the dude is clearly hurt. He may have other issues but some of it is health.

Also, I don't know if Beverley slows Luka today but he is a better option than Reggie Snackson. They could really use him.

I was bitching upthread about having Reggie Jackson in a game at crunch time (game 1 or 2). There's no justification. Not sure what's going through Doc's mind there. I think that @reggiecleveland would defend that play better.

Hot take? He's been awful and settling vs a team giving up a layup line. That's not a hot take. The clippers are going home if he plays 1 more game as bad as he's been

JVG: "We should honor that play. (Of Vanvleet cradling some taller guy driving and shoving him further into the baseline.)"

Giannis, Luka, Tatum for me. Tatum can conceivably pass Luka based on defense...but I don’t think it’ll happen, I think Luka is that good offensively.

Suddenly, according to 538’s Raptor predictions, the Celtics and the Clippers are tied in the “Most likely to win the championship” at 21% each. After this game they may decrease the Clippers likelyhood.

Funny. After the first round last year the Celtics were flying high as well. Hope they can do a better job of building on their momentum this time through. I think they will.

What’s the record for most players to score in a game? 23/25 players on the raptors and nets rosters have scored so far.

Edit: now 24/25

That’s really surprising with Hayward’s injury. And something made them suddenly sell stock on the Bucks.

Jamal Murray would drive me crazy if I was Nuggets fan. He seems like he's either 34 or 14 points per game. I would imagine most Nuggets game threads on their version of SOSH include, "Let's hope we get good Jamal tonight."

Hah my Nuggets fan friend said similar. Sink or swim. But he bet over on 4.5 assist and over 30.5 points so at least he will make some cash tonite.

Doncic-Brown-Tatum would be an unterrible 1-2-3. Is there a timeline where that occurs?
In the future, or the past?

There was a pretty straightforward one where Danny doesn’t trade for Kyrie and then the final Nets pick does well in the lottery.

Mitchell is the most underrated player in the NBA, and I'm pretty sure it is mostly because he is short.

Regarding Jackson on Luka today, guessing Doc bet on a drive and dish and had Kawhi for the corner shooter, and lost the bet. There’s no other rationale.

Also had a shot with the pick that came with Tatum, right? Lakers ended up at #10 so Philly got to keep it but if it had been 2-5, then that puts you right in Luka range.
