It doesn’t need to be brothers necessarily, just 2-3 people that are fun to listen to. Kinda of like a good podcast crew.
Favre: fuck Green Bay as a city, a team and as a motherfucking community owned major league sports team.
Also Favre: I moved to NYC and suddenly I couldn’t send pictures of my genitals to team employees.
So awesome to have three guys on the same broadcast who collectively cost the Patriots six Super Bowls.
Three-man booth is always one too many, right?
I thought Ray Lewis was fantastic last week. Charles Barkley was entertaining too, though in a different way. Both were much better than Gronk or Favre. Lewis and Barkley are just flat-out brighter than Gronk and Favre, though it probably also matters that Lewis and (especially) Barkley have experience doing TV.
Wait is Brett saying he just never learned the play names he just had his QB coach tell him what it would be called in his old playbook?
Except it took him 8 minutes to get those two sentences out of the vicodin soaked mush of his brain.

I missed that segment. Supports my “no shit” theory that smart guys make better commentators than dumb guys (or at least guys who play dumb, which is a more accurate description of Gronk).

Peyton; one with the Colts in 2007, two with the Broncos in 2014 and 2016 but to be fair, do the Patriots beat Seattle in 2014, probably not, they demolished Denver
Eli; two with the Giants in 2008 and 2012
Favre; one with the Packers in 1997 he also gets an assist for that horrible INT in the 2008 NFCCG

Bledsoe and the Patriots were never beating that Packers team. The interception against the Giants in ‘07 was the real killer and history changer.
Agreed. Even a good conventional commentator like Tony Romo doesn’t give you insights like that. It never would have occurred to me that the Lions made a horseshit play call on that 4th and 1, even though it’s obvious once someone points it out.
Romo was tremendous in the AFCCG vs the Chiefs, he was calling plays before the Patriots ran them, specifically in OT.
It’s a cool parlor trick, and one of my favorite parts of watching games with former players - especially when they’re betting on play calls every down - but Peyton does a better job talking about the what, why and how than Romo does congratulating himself for predicting every play.
Yeah that little bit about the dagger or this bit about where your feet need to be unless you are Rodgers are good stuff.
I wonder whether Romo could do what Peyton does in this format. Peyton is excellent, no doubt, but it helps that he’s not being asked to conform to conventional broadcast norms and keep things accessible for fans who understand only the most rudimentary aspects of football.
Plus, Romo is sort of breaching etiquette in doing that, plenty of color guys can call out plays with some regularity based on formation and personnel.
Good point. In my experience, some people have a gift for being able to explain complex concepts to laymen, and others aren’t. I think Romo’s excitability and desire to nail the calls makes him less likely to take Peyton’s clinical, thorough approach, but it is possible it’s just the medium.
Yeah, Eli knows to stop talking right away, but Peyton is stomping all over Gronk and Favre and Willis.
The guests are a mistake. They naturally defer to PM and he is not a good host(he is great otherwise). Eli doesn’t defer as much so it works.
He falls into the ‘so here’s a total breakdown of the play….ANY OTHER THOUGHTS?’ thing. He should just say ‘whaddya make of that play Patrick’
Guests only work if the can keep up and Peyton can stay in the flow and play off them. Last week was great that way. Watching Peyton getting frustrated with slow talking Favre and slow thinking Gronk was entertaining in a different kind of way.
